  • how did you wier the inverters together in the braker panel.

  • how did you make the grid tie inverters stay on when the mains failed?

i want to use grid tie inverters but i also want power if the mains fails. i thought about getting a small pure sine wave inverter and powering it up when mains fails so as to trick the grid tie inverters. would this work??

    thanks :)

  • I loveee this setup, i need some assistance in creating a setup like this, i sent you a message. I am excited about this project. Thanks in advance

  • Great videos, I've been trying to study and understand your set up. My situation is that I'm about 8 months from being out of debt and I am looking forward to investing in a setup like yours shortly after, I am trying to learn the components so I can get an accurate assessment of my costs and so I can get an organized list of what I would need. I see that your setup changes and improves thru-out your videos. Is there any way you could make a list of yur recommendations for someone to duplicate?

  • Kevin, what book / dvd / learning resource would you recommend that is current and up to date that I could purchase? Any recommendations on how to or other manual on how to scope, plan, engineer, install, and operate these solar systems sir? Please advise.

  • still dont know why the music is playing its pointless.

  • The fridge,Pink Floyd and satalite are still on. All a man needs. Great set-up. You sound just like a friend of mines Dad. You from Kentucky?

  • so if you could tell mme what your using in order to get such fast kick in, with out sending power out to the world. great video

  • what are you using for a transfer switch, that keeps your AC on with out sending power out to the gride, but yet keeps your home still runing on AV, a gride tye need power from the gride to keep running, with do a great job, but haed to find one larger then 200 watts, but they only run as long as you have power from the gride, i have tried a few trasfer switchs that work but not well,

  • pigs by pink floyd. one of the greatest songs ever!

  • I was just wondering about who much cash you have tied up on that wall?

  • I'd love to put solar panels and a turbine up outside, but its so expensive to buy everything.

  • nice

  • if you had all your solar panels hooked up and with your wind turbine, would you be able to live completely off the solar panels and wind turbine? it seems with the amount of solar panels you have and the turbine that it would seem like you can. your set up is very nice, i want to have a set like that, but maybe not that much into it.

  • Very impressive. It's good evrybody is looking into solar. One thing I was just alerted to was a county I work in as an electrician recently tripled their permit fee for solar. We need to thank our counties for encouraging solar by milking evry penny they can from new technology. I will look at every one of your videos and try to use as much of your ideas as possible , so cool!

    thanx

    Sailor

  • Hey, I like the setup, hope I am not repeating questions but how long did it take to set up? and did you work at it constantly or here and there?

  • So you are saying that you can run approx. two days on two batteries? Also how much would you say you have in your system costwise?

  • how much do you have inested in all that eqipment ?

  • When you're battery bank is charged, do you send energy back into the grid?

  • Your system is the best so far I've seen, yes nice wiring. I see you have a wind generator how does it work, is it designed with a treadmill motor or what kinda rpms does it need and what are the volts coming out, I will try and keep up with your further videos.

  • Wow can't tell my website so easy, hmmm just like trying to get free electric lol.

  • Buyers Web Site .com

  • Nice Video, I've watched several. I's just getting started bought a solar kit to build a solar panel came with 44 cells. My attention is leaning more tward wind turnbin do to I have a blan new 3 phase moter setting aside. I should have my first solar panel build with in a day after I find some tempered glass. So far your video looks pretty good, I just didn't understand why your meter is in your house. If you can share what gauge wires to use. BuyersWebsite@Frontier.com Tim New to YouTube

  • Having problems replying, hmmm

  • Thank you for showing your project. You done an excellent job and very neat wiring. I have a few questions for you. First one is how does the batteries hold up after using the washer/dryer? Second one what do you think of the green plug? Do you know if the green plug works or not? OH just one more thing will you come over and wire-up my house? LOL!!! That must have taken you a LONG time to wire all of that stuff. Is any of your items homemade? And out of curiosity how much did everything cost?

  • Awesome great channel! I love the commentary in your videos, very informative! Excellent setup too and demos.

  • cool

  • Nice setup there, looks clean and installed correct.

If people plan on doing there self. please get a lic. electrician to help you wire it. if will save you from burning up your house or getting killed.

  • Would there be any issues you think with running an laptop in an car hooked to an 230v modified sine inverter then to the normal house powerbrick?

  • Comment removed

  • Wonderful setup. Yours is the most successful setup iv'e seen so far. How much wattage do you have in your solar panels and how many wind gens do you have, and how much wattage do they produce? What are the automatic transfer inverters your using? Soooooo many more questions. I wish I could see the diagram for your basic system. Really great setup. Did I say that you have a great setup? Ok, I'll say it again. Good setup.

    Leon

  • Your setup of almost seamless backup power integration with grid tieing is exactly what I am interested in learning how to do. I don't have many resources at my disposal but would like to learn and experiment. Any ideas on a good start for a novice?

  • please turn off the radio when making video. Without radio it would be excellent.

  • Awesome setup!

  • whats the song playing man my bird likes it

  • I have a quick question, Even if there was a outage for one or two days, when the sun comes out in the morning it will charge the batteries right, so in other words you would still have energy in your home?

I have seen lots of very expensive equipment in you setup do you have a diagram of how you set it up with the names of the components something like a wiring diagram. Great setup by the way.

  • I like the Pink Floyd in the back ground lol....

  • Very nice. Got a million questions but to ignorant on the subject to ask yet. Ill watch all your videos first. Thanks for taking the time.

  • Oh my God a masterpiece...Man,really a nice work

  • Love that song. Amazing setup too. I will keep tuning in, as you are giving me some great ideas.

  • likey many other people have said great video wish I had the money to build my own system like today but I'm just getting started using just tax money to buy parts and to get stuff set up and running and I cant wait.

  • Nice,real nice !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sweet !!!!!!!

  • Dude, cool, but you need to step up on the battery quality. Pick up some trojan L16s and upgrade your mini grid tie to the new 1200 watt version. I'll bet your 4x300s were cool when you bought them, but now you notice how hot they run? Awesome job with the stuff ya got.

  • Great Video's Man!!!

Love the set up. Lot's of gadgets. Gives me something to shoot for.

    Love the House and setting.

And your a Diesel fan!!!! Love my 7.3.

What do you think about the Perkins 10-15kw Diesel gen's CATMAN?

  • @4vermont Thank you Perkins are great engines cat uses them in lots of aplications

  • so our saying gel cell batt are worthless or just them . from where you got them

  • "It basically didn't blink" uh.... I saw it get dark then bright again, unless I'm seeing things, or I guess not seeing things. :)

  • @TheLockerzfreaks "It allmost didnt blink" witch means it blank UH.... DUH... THAT MEANS IT BLANK. GROW UP......

  • @OBXSOLWIND

    It was a joke

  • @OBXSOLWIND BTW I think what ur doing is awesome

  • Great Vid!

Question, I have 16 Trojan T-105's (96v) and a Zivan NG3 Charger, left-overs from an EV project. I want to hook them up to an inverter for back-up power for the house. What kinda inverter would I need to get? Any advice would be appreciated.

    BTW..U got a pretty kool set-up there.

  • @AlamoCityCello Hey John That is a tough question your batterys are great it just depends on what you are looking to do and the cost. I would go 12 or 24 volt and maybe try to go for a quality pure sighn wave inverter. I like the xantrex inverters with the transfer switch and no charger. I hope that helps. CHEERS OBX NC

  • Wow, 1600 Ah storage is awesome! At 12 V this equals 19.2 kWh. How much do those batteries weigh - can I store this amount of power on the 5th floor of a multi-family home without fear of statics turning into dynamics?

  • great video, like the music. I wish my wife would let me do half that stuff. I had a question on the power jack grid ties. First of all how do you like them? and I was trying to see the input wiring to see how you had them hooked up. Do you the input paralleled between all of them? I think I am going to try one of them out and compare to my others. I have a couple of 500's and a 400 and a 250 that will show up tomorrow. I am going to keep the ones I like best. I liked all the LED'S nice

  • Hey VW I like the inverters but I would like somthing that would fit my needs that are UL listed. I parallel them in seperate 600W arays so it is 2 seperate systems.

    CHEERS

  • I know someone that did the same thing with Fiber optics. One point of light destributed though out the house.

    Love the music..

  • Cool man! Great Video! 5 stars!! great system!

  • awesome job on the power transfer! That's really good!

  • btw i am in va. beach not to far from you. would love to see the setup sometime

  • Hello Send me a personal mesage with some info. And we can go from there. There are alot of nuts in this world I am not saying your one of them but this day and age you have to keep it safe.

    Kevin

  • I have two questions I see the GTI in series I asked the seller of mine which is only 250Watts if I could do just that series at the post and he said no. So how is your setup\working.

Also in relations to GTI after 5pm I wanted auto switch to batts but, how?

  • Hello The GTI do one thing they backfeed the grid mine are in paralell. you would not want to grid tie all day and then run on batterys at night. you have to charge your bank during the day and draw from them at night. I hope that answered your question.

    CHEERS

  • OK yea in parallel I see the GTI's I would like to know more on this setup.

As for the batt setup. After sunset I am still making power but, not enough to power 14V GTI needs but, good for pushing to batts. I am looking for a sensor to switch my load to the batts when this happens.

  • WOW! you rule the solar world man! your setup is the best on youtube and I am very happy Ive stubbled across you here. I am definetly going to watch all your vids because i have so many questions about this stuff. I am just starting out. built my first panel only small 4 volt from a picture frame for practice, I am in the process of building 10 36 cell 18 volt panels to start my system and i am very confused about what way to go with controlers inverters and the like, check my vid out. thanks

  • Thank you. I will check out your vids.

    Cheers

  • Nice, so you basically have all the best solar / wind power stuff and have a whole house ups. I can only guess your some sort of electrician or engineer with the whole setup looking pro and working so well. What do you think about hybrid deep cycle batteries (the ones from autozone or walmart with thinner lead plates than a true deep cycle) ? I have a hybrid 125 amp hour and just am trying to figure out how long these batteries last. I try not to discharge mine past 50%, Its used in a pc ups.

  • Those batteryes work fine for what you are doing with it. If you were to cycle every day they would not last very long. I did a video on this with a 3000W APC UPS you may whant to go to my channel and check it out I think its right up your alley. I am a diesel technition with an electricle back ground.

    Thank you for your comment.

    CHEERS

  • Hi. Can u shut the entire system right down if you want to for example add a new light or socket. Is there a way to do it because of you shut down the main power it will all switch over. Can you manually over ride it?

  • Yes I can I shut off the power and the battery bank disconect. That is a good question because these thing will get you iff you are not thinking.

    Cheers

  • hell of job

  • Thank you

  • Great job!

How many and what kind of panels are you running. I saw many of the ebay cheap grid tie inverters there. Or was those the norm inverters.?

BTW most us don't have this much money to play with I have the cheap 45 watt kit from HF. Any suggestions would be great full.

  • Hello I have 6 200w panals and 2 100w I started the same way. I recomend Youtube and Google.

I think if you wach all my videos it will help explane more about this.

  • Wat a good system. Do you have a diesel backup generator to charge up the batteries if the battery power supply fails.

  • I do have a backup genset but my battery bank charges back up with solar and wind.

  • Very clever System. Most places in the uk have battery emergency lights only but bigger places have generators

  • name of that song :D

  • PINK FLOYD. PIGS

    Off the animals album.

  • I LOVE IT !!! But I don't quiet understand how the system works with the power going to the batteries, then to the grid, and then when your drawing off the grid then the system knows when it doesn't have power and switches you to your batteries. O and I love pink floyd too but at the end I couldn't quite hear you over the music. Again I love the system!!

  • Thanks for your comment. The inverters have transfer switches built in. If the grid power fails they go to battery power instantly. when the grid power coms back they wait a few seconds to change back over. The inverters do not have built in chargers I chose to do this manually. I had two high end inverters with chargers fail within 2 years. You can see one in the cabenet in my Emp video. I hope I answered your question if not responed again.

    Kevin OBX NC

  • ok i got you about mainpanel so how do you get power to circuits before the inverters kick in when main is turn off is there another power source hooked into sub panel other than inverters

  • You need to check out my other videos and you can see most of the wiring. I took 6 15A circuits from the house to a backup panel each inverter feeds 3 curcuits. Then I brought down a pair of 20A lines from the main pannel to feed the inverters automatic transfer switches. The only reason I used appliance cords to plug into these 20A curcuits is so I can isolate this system in the event of lightning storms or the possibilaty of an EMP.

  • Ok so that im on the same page so just say you have a 12-2 homerun just for fridge to main panel you bring a 12-2 off main panel to sub panel do you pig tail it to same fridge breaker in main panel maybe if i can see a diagram i can understand better i do work for an electrician but don't do any solar or genorater transfer switches im strickly a residental journymen but interested to do this to my house

  • The breaker in the main panel would be removed and you would connect the hot and neutral together with red wire nuts the ground can be hooked to the ground bus. All you are doing is using the main pannel as a junction box it is not part of your connections eccept for grounds.

  • Good Info

  • Hey obxsolwind

thanks for the reply very helpful info about the grid tie inverters can you tell me alittle about the inverters you have how they know when power is out and how did you hooked up the circuits that you wanted to the inverter and the main panel thats what throws me off because circuits are in main panel in house but then also in subpanel in garage that inverters feeds???

  • The inverters hve built in tranfer switches when they lose grid power they switch to battery power. If you can get wires to your pannel box you can wire nut circuits together in your main pannel and move the circuit protection to your other pannel. This is NEC complient I recomend getting an electricion involved in this. My system on this end is a little more complicated because I am trying to protect these circuits from a possible EMP.

  • Hey love the setup just started setting up mine with the grid tie in verters can you link them all together on d/c side +to+ -to- i saw you have the a/c in a junction box and ran down to outlet but i cant make out d/c side and my next ? is how does the power inverters know when power is out?

  • Fanman Yes you can hook them up in parallel on the dc side The only problem I have seen is when there is not alot of sun they get confused working together otherwise they work fine. I put in the junction box to shorten the cords. The cords that come with these things are toys 18G wire. The inverters have what is called ISLAND PROTECTION if they dont see grid power they shut down. When using these things remember FUSE PROTECTION both AC and DC FIRES ARE NOT GOOD. They are not UL CHEERS WINDYNC

  • Great setup

  • Kevin,

Great followup video to your previous videos. It would be nice if someone created a YouTube channel completely dedicated to DIY Home Solar Power, then add all the original ideas the group has. That would make for a great resource to bigginer and intermediate DIY solar folks. That's my idea. Now we just need to find someone to put it together. What do you think? Later from sunny FL. Sam

  • Sam thanks for your comments. We already have somthing like that. On channels like yours and maybe mine after all I found alot of my favorite videos off your channel. Thanks again CHEERS WINDY NC

  • Hey, that is an awesome system. Good shot at the beginning of your 4 inverters. Are they wired together in series? Pretty good idea, where did you get all of your LED's? Every bulb in my house right now is a CFL, but I am moving to LED's also, less power draw.

  • The 4 inverters at the top are grid tie inverters they are wired in parallel with #4 wire. The inverters on the right are the 1800w inverters . Thanks for your comments.

  • great system and great video.

  • Great video

when you go outside you could make a fantastic horror movie at night

tell me how the invertors have a automatic transfer switch i thought you had to have a seperate box for that

    Ian United Kingdom

  • Ian,

Kevin's setup is what you are wanting to put together. With 2 stackable inverters (same kind), will power 240v mains power. Glad to see you are moving forward with everything. Sam

  • I watched this vid first... Keep it up....Like how fast your inverters take over your home when you turned off the power...

    Great set up...

  • Im going to try to reply to all. First thanks for the coments. Zantrex makes 2 styles of inverters with tranfer switches built in and no batterie charger. The prosine and the proseries. I do not know if they make them for your type of power 240v 50htz. I got my leds off ebay a good search is 12v LED warm white.
