  • y fue en el mismo año q murio otro actorazo de la pelikula del hombre increible hulk

  • grew up with the munsters, thank you fred gwynne!! you will be missed :(

  • @3rdstooge u mean "munster" lolol

  • A real talent. Had the ability to muster genuine laughter from nearly everyone.

  • Actors as good as fred gwynne are very few , Legend shall live on...........

  • Who the hell thought that Al Lewis would outlive Gwynne.

  • A time when we had REAL entertainers!!!!! RIP Fred......

  • live long enough seems all your friends die and favorite movie stars , sucks like neing in a war

  • :( happy birthday fred <3 love you so so much <333333333

  • So young, to pass away, he was a lovely actor and wonderful man, I just know it, in my heart. R I P thankyou for your talent, and everlasting genius xx

  • Fred is ( was) the best, I loved him in the Munsters..18 years dead already, unbelievable. His anniversary is next month, July 2 nd.

  • I thought he was much older than that. Car 54 was 1964 and he looked 30 there.

  • @Alexmcgruer3 This was in 1993. He was 66 at the time of his death. He was born in 1926; in 1964 he was 38 years old. He would be about 84-85 now.

  • @MIKESOWELL OH That explains it. I thought this was recent.

  • Fred and his second wife retired to Taneytown, MD, where my grandparents live. Mr. Gwynne and my grandfather struck up a casual friendship before he got sick. He would come down to the Post Office nearly every day to chat with the staff and when I would visit- I was 3 or 4 at the time- he'd walk me around the block and buy me ice cream. Just goes to show you that even some of the biggest stars can be genuine and thoughtful people. RIP.

  • Al Lewis always told Fred Gwynne.."Fred Always be specific in the roles that you play".

  • I remember readingFred Gwynne's book "A Chocolate Moose" when I was in summer school when I was 8 to 9 years old.

  • I'll say this much: don't be buryin' ol' Mr. Gwynne in that cemetery on the hill. What comes out of there ain't what you put in.

Believe me, some things are better left dead.

  • there needs to be more actors like fred, there really does. he has that certan something that makes a person unique. ohhhhhh fred :( i love and miss you so much :'(

  • I much prefer his overlooked portrayal of Francis Muldoon,in car 54.

  • RIP Fred You are truly missed

  • in 1965 mum came home with a Munsters Coach in the form of a model kit, WOW let me tell you that was our x box in its day, what a gas thing to have as a kid back in 66,how i miss that time and model!!!!!!!!!!!anybody get the same kit back then??? do tell,

  • @barnfresh60 What a great story. I love toys from your era, that sounds especially cool.

  • @cobainsprodigy thanks mate,..

  • And if you were lucky, you may have seen him with Robert Preston in "The Man That Corrupted Hadleyburg".

  • love fread in the munsters and pet semartary RIP FREAD GWYNNE

  • All you ever heard was how much he hated being on the Munsters, sounded like an unhappy set honestly. He was a fine comedic actor and I enjoyed his work.

  • Fred Gwynne Graduated from Harvard University , was very intelligent.. and played a sort of gangster type in the movie On The Water Front. Drohegda

  • You left us long before your time Fred. Thanks for sharing your great talent with us.

  • I had the pleasure of working with Fred Gwynn on a TV movie called The Munsters Revenge. He was very nice and talkative. He mentioned he did not receive any royalties from The Munsters. The royalties had stopped years before.

  • @Featureman really? cool, lucky you

  • I was just watching, ' Car Fifty Four ' Thanks for the many,many laughs. R. I.P.

  • One of the classics .... now immortalized. Thanks Fred.

  • There'll never be another Herman Munster. It was an iconic role, never to be equalled. RIP Fred. Scare the shit out of somebody up in heaven.

  • Fred Gwynne was one of those guys that when I ever I saw in a movie, it made me smile.

  • Thank you for the upload. Gwynne was such a talented dude.

  • A supremely gifted man, and a nice guy too. May he rest in peace.

  • Pancreatic cancer does not get the recognition nor the research funding it deserves. It is the number 3 cancer killer people. Get on it.

  • What the fuck, I never saw the munsters colored.

  • Fred was a graduate of Harvard, where he was a contributing editor of the Harvard Lampoon

  • WE ALL KNOW WHERE "CAR 54 " IS'NT...On shelves in DVD stores. Anybody know why?

  • Fred Gwynne was a grate man.

Rest in peace you wer the best!!!!!

  • May he rest in peace.

  • Also a great painter /illustrator.

  • he played Jud Crandall so well when he did Pet Sematary. Too bad he's dead. =[

  • Did they ever find out where Car 54 was? All seriousness aside, how sad that Mr Gwynne left us when he was only 66. That's not old at all anymore. But, sadly, pancriatic cancer is one of more fast acting cancers....I think it killed both Michael Landon & Jack Benny. Mr Gwynne was a gifted actor...and QUITE talented in other ways too. THANK YOU for posting this very informative & entertaning clip! :)

  • A great actor and a great person.

  • Yes I have great ,memories of Fred (Herman) I remember the show in the Munsters when he kicked the football over the house and went for miles. As a kid I thoughjt it was amazing.. Kids ah .

  • WHAT A TALENT<

  • God Bless You Fred. RIP.

  • I loved Fred as Herman, but he was known to be very unfriendly to fans. But then there are always two sides to every story, and we all have good days and bad ones.

  • RIP Fred. Very talented. I will miss you.

  • I grew up in a very dysfunctional home. My so-called "father" was a violent control freak and a pedophile who preyed upon me from the time I was eight years old.

I used to love to watch The "Munsters". Herman Munster was a loving husband, a loving father, a father figure to his niece, Marylin, a man who loved unconditionally, a man who always kept the magic of his inner child alive and well.

RIP, Fred, and thank you; you were a rock for me to hold onto.

  • I thought the judge from my cousin vinny was earl hindman, aka wilson

  • haha wow

  • Was not aware he had died, so sad. Loved this guy, RIP Mr. Gwynne.

  • Just a little note, he also came out in an 80s film titled "The Boy Who Could Fly". It's so sad to see such an amazing and kindhearted actor who brought such joy to all Americans and viewers across the world pass away. RIP Fred. You won our hearts for all time! You will not be forgotten...always treasured.

  • Hello: What do you mean by "came out"? Do you mean he was gay?

  • What??? What is it with you stupid, young punkass modern day Americans that every thought has to be affiliated with gay? Who in the hell is thinking about gays other than you? If I wanted to say game, I'd straightup say gay you fucking homo! I happened to like this actor and simply stated he starred in another movie you fucking retard! Watch who you're fucking with before attempting to demean other readers on here fucknuts!

  • Sorry to hit a sensitive area for you. I just wanted you to clarify your point. You must live in a vacuum. I don't know if he's gay or not, but your irrate response makes me wonder about you. You obviously have some issues of your own to deal with. Get help. It's out there. LOL

  • Go jump off a cliff punk! You're messing with the wrong dude. Go educate yourself, go to college instead of living off mommy and daddy's computer whacking yourself off and getting a rise out of instigating other people. In other words, GROW UP!

  • You just keep proving my point. If you can't make a point without sounding like trailor trash, then you need to grow up and learn some english. You sound very repressed. It's not normal dude. Stop talking smack and get some help.

  • Go fuck your mother...hillbilly!

  • Now you sound like a pussy. Get over it loser, get a lfe and stop whining like a little bitch.

  • This was fascinating to watch. Never knew the late great Mr Gwynne was so multi-talented. I read that back in the 80's before he died he appeared onstage in Tennesse Williams' "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" as the larger-than-life character "Big Daddy Pollitt". Would have loved to have seen that! Wonder how he compared to Burl Ives, who originated the role. How sad that he died at 66....these days that's not old at all. In any case, thanks for posting this! :)

  • thanks for the memories fred

  • He was great as Herman Munster, but I think it's sad that was all he will be remembered for the most. He and Al Lewis were great together in Car 54 Where Are You?, his Judge role on My Cousin Vinny, and his role in Pet Semetary, were some favorites of mine. Now both he and Al Lewis are making people laugh in his Kingdom along with the other greats we've lost over the years. RIP Fred Gwynne, may you be at eternal peace.

  • did he die?

  • Yes, in 1993.

  • Met him in Maine in 1977. Smoked all the time. Very heavy smoker

  • Rumoured he lived in Mt.Kisco N.Y.

  • You're right he did. Once I sat next to him on the Metro North Rail Road. I tried to respect his privacy, but He started talking to me first. He enjoyed being a regular guy and being around regular people.

  • WOW!...What did he say to ya if you don't mind me askin'?

  • He said he loves riding the railroad because it takes him exactly to where he wants to go faster and he get's to relax. He asked where I was going, I was only going to school. It was just small chit chat like that. I don't think he knew that i knew who he was, maybe he did, but he kept a low profile on the train. I noticed he had a very expensive looking haircut and nice shoes. LOL .

  • Great memories.

...Funny you mentioned haircut and shoes because those were items that stood out on the 'Herman Munster' character he portrayed. ---LOL!

    ---Thanks 4 the comments! :o)

  • Yes that's true, but when he speaks, you can never mistake that voice. Living in New York, its not unusual to run into celebrities. They are everywhere.

  • So true.

In fact, I 'ran into' and spoke to

Michael J. Fox in a dept. store here in upper Dutchess Co. a few yrs. back.

    ...Heard he lives in Millerton(?)

And Mary Tyler Moore as well as Sally Jesse Raphele live not too far from here also.

    ...You're right, they're everywhere!---LOL! :O)

  • Wow, Michael J. Fox! Family Ties, a great show. I wonder how he's doing. I know he's got Parkinson's but haven't heard anything in a long time.

  • Yes. He was easily recognizable but dressed very 'scroungy' (?)

I knew it was him so I asked; "excuse me but aren't you M.J. Fox?''...'Yeah' was his reply. Told me he was taking his kids fishing (guess that accounts for the 'scrounge') It was obvious that he had Parkinsons the way he was hiding his arm inside his jacket. Think he was waiting for me to ask for an autograph but I just wished him a good day.

...One of those things you never forget, meeting celebrities! :o)

  • Once I was at Macy's on 34th Street and met Joyce Randolph (Trixie) in the furniture department. We were both admiring the same furniture set. She was bubbly and friendly. I never thought of asking for an autograph. I don't really want it. LOL

  • That's great! (think I would've asked for her signiture :o)

Considering I'm a big 'Honeymooner' fan

    ---Ha!

    That's so cool!

...Hey, if you're interested, check on my channel at a video I made called

'The Shapes Project' I created these paintings of comedians, etc. and made the vid for 'You-Tube'

...There is a Honeymooner' one on there as well. ---Perhaps you'll see something of interest?

  • I just checked it out. Great Work. I loved everything about it. I would love to get a copy of those pastels just to decorate my wall with them. LOL Added to my favorites. thanks

  • Gee thanks.

Actually the originals were done w/ watermedia (acrylic & watercolor)

...I do have these available as prints in small formatted sizes if you are interested.(?)

I do art & craft shows w/ my work so I would accommodate a piece matted and/or framed if need be...

  • You are very multi talented. im sure you do very well Great work.

  • Thank you again. Your nice compliments mean so much! :o)

  • You're quite welcome. Keep up the good work. Just post your next art show.

  • I watched a bio on him today; he was such an amazing man it seemed, so talented and easy going with no ego. I would LOVE to have an actual peice of his art work...damn that man could paint and draw!!!

  • 1993... Wow, I can't believe it's been that long. I was 22 at the time.

I remember being sad when I heard about his passing.

  • I know. Time really sneaks up on you.

  • WOW! This is a fantastic Video, full in interesting videos of the MUNSTERS ACTOR.THANK YOU!!!!!!!! :)

  • Yvonne DeCarlo (who of course played Fred's wife, Lily) is featured in a great, new bio called Charlton Heston: An Incredible Life: Revised Edition! The bio is at amazon for sale!

  • RIP bro!!

  • One more poor addict murdered by the tobacco pushers and their weapon of mass destruction.

  • I remember Fred and Al Lewis in "Car 54, where are you?" They were so funny together! RIP Fred.

  • What the fawk was Davertin talking about, hell and God. sounds like a moron to me.

Fred was awesome! I loved his Herman "scooba doo and scooba die, that chicken's not too young to fry" lol. he was great in 'Vinnie' "are you mockin' me with that outFit?"

see 'Teenage Werwolf' on my channel

  • Likable guy. Sixteen years later, though, I think I'm over it.

  • Sad !

The munster brings back some childhood memories, as I guess it does all of us.

Though I never rated the new Munsters

It was never the same without Fred Gwynne...

    What an Actor !

    Brillaint and without fault.

Is Al Lewis still alive though ?

    Thanks for sharing.

    Greetings from England.

  • He was born on 30 April 1923,[3] [1] but few other facts about Lewis are known with any certainty; most of the information comes from interviews he gave, but there are inconsistencies in his statements. Sometimes he gave his birth year as 1910, other times 1923. Ted Lewis, his son, said his father was born in 1923.

------ al lewis died on feb 3rd 2006

  • wow that's sad...and that was in 93'?....wow i was only 3 years old.

  • It would be nice to put a date on this in your description.

  • lol hes so good at playing that jerkoff judge haha man RIP i grew up watching the Munsters!

  • rip fred gwynne

  • Fred is certainly missed...he had such a beautiful singing voice as well...

  • one of the best

  • No one can replace him, he was and always will be Fred Gynn the comedian and great actor but he really made us laugh as Herman Munster and the remake isnt funny, you cant replace any of the actors, it was the right chemistry and Grandpa was a hoot! There was something about the two of them just comic genius and perfect chemistry. RIP Fred!

  • i love to watch the munsters i laugh every time he laugh and get pissed and faint i will miss him!!!! r.i.p fread

  • I JUST LOVED HIM IN PET CEMETERY

  • one of a kind he will be missed by many rip..

  • Too, too young to pass away...what an intelligent, well-rounded man he was. I always remember my mom telling me she met him some time in the 60's and how incredibly shy he was!

  • You never pass away..you just move on!

Fred's in Heaven having the time of his life!!!

  • Gee thanks a bunch for that information...while I believe everything you say, I still feel he was too young to "move on" and his daughter and family may feel the same way...but as you say I bet he is having the time of his life : )

  • I know he was young, but he was sick..

Now, he's free of that dreaded sickness

and he's young again, and like I said before

with family & Friends who went before him.

And..most of all.. hes in the precence of The Lord!

  • who are you to judge! certainly not god

  • You're right. I don't send men to Hell, God does.

  • rip fred, the greatest franekstien parody ever

No one can take his place.

    One of my favorite shows.

    RIP Fred.

  • i guess this info is true. name: Frederick Hubbard Gwynne Birth: Jul. 10, 1926 New York County New York, USA Death: Jul. 2, 1993 Actor. Well-known for his role of 'Herman' on "The Munsters," and his work on "Car 54, Where Are You?" Author and illustrator of children's books, "The King Who Rained," "A Chocolate Moose for Dinner," and "A Little Pigeon Toad." Cause of death: Pancreatic cancer Burial: Sandymount Methodist Church Churchyard Sandyville Carroll County Maryland, USA
  • i think one of the funniest munster scenes occurred when eddie had a wind-up toy frankenstein monster. it looked like a very miniature version of herman. when herman saw it walking around, herman assumed that lily had just given birth to it. herman thought it was his own new-born baby. herman started playing around with it. suddenly, eddie came in and grabbed the toy away, and herman was startled when eddie grabbed it.

  • 1993

  • What year was it that he died?

  • God rest him in peace. Fred was such a class act and made so many of us growing up in the 60s and 70s laugh out hard.

  • That damn pancreatic cancer. Several of my favorite actors have died of it. Fortunately, it's not very common. But if you had to get cancer and you had a choice of which cancer you got, don't pick that one.

  • He was really funny as Herman. Too bad he's gone. :(

  • That guy was multi dimensional if there ever were one. Herman Munster was a class act that will go down as one of the most loved characters in history!

  • I had no idea how multi faceted and talented he was.
