  • one word nice

  • a nice move at 7:42 would be knight to b5 followed by knight to c7 which checks the king and attacks the rook

  • Good for attacking opening but not to defense

  • Any reason not to like Scandinavian opening?.. Personally I like the fact that Black Queen gets out so early to grab the exchange pawn on d with no real purpose. And more often or not in blitz games, I get opportunities to develop my minors while attaching Black queen in Scandinavian..

  • i like how at in the video at 5:09 white brings the queen to e3 :)

  • i just made a twitter at which i will post games, tips and developments of the BDG.

@BlackmarDiemer, follow if interested, it will have regular updates.

  • I try to do all this openings agains the computer but it always plays defence and it always throws me off

  • from "How to Beat 1.d4" by J. Rizzitano: "Despite its almost universal condemnation by titles players, the BDG continues to be supported by a thriving community of Internet User groups, magazine articles and e-mail theme tournaments. I don't know if these passionate gambiteers should be praised or condemned, but I do know they should be left alone" Case closed.

  • no strong players play this opening because it sucks!

  • these knights look like unicorns.

  • the king-side is not weak after g4 and castling king-side is fine; white just follows with Bg2 and 0-0 and white is fine

  • Thankyou for pointing out everything NOT to do as white when playing the BDG ... I play it very often & rarely castle queenside & never play the Ryder Gambit (I would expect to score 95%+ as black in the line you show where queens get exchanged on f3) ... but at least I get to use my 'creativity' :-P

  • is there a declined variation to gambit?

  • @LakerNarutosasuke32 normally if it's declined it will transpose to a caro-kann or a french defence.

  • its almost like halosar trap if white moves the knight at f3 instead of the pawn.

  • At 3:44, you move the bishop to pin the knight to the king. But I don't see how the result can be anything but bad for white. Black moves pawn to A6, you move the bishop back to c4, as you say in the video, but then black moves pawn to B5. White is put in a lose-lose situation, whatever your move is. And at any rate, black is developing as white simply loses tempo, reversing the purpose of the Gambit. I think I'm missing something here, but I can't see it

  • ty ill use more often as my rating is 735z

  • you said Qe3!!!!!!

  • d4, d5, e4, e6. French defense.

  • 4:48 "Alot of times if you play this alot of black players are going to look at you and think your retarded." HAHAHA :)

Btw those who say this isn't a good opening.

This opening has the highest winning percentage (49%) of all white openings and is ranked 2nd place only to the Queens gambit.

  • @dekulewan what is your source for this misinformation?

  • he is not expert on that opening.. he cant that well

  • why not play f3 and offer another pawn???

  • Thanks a lot. I also hate the Scandinavian, so you saved me from one of my worst nightmare against my 1.e4 openings!

  • when the black queen moves to d4 and you move your white bishop on queen side to e3 what are some options for white if the queen moves back to e5?

  • @Rus291989 0-0-0 and use the d-file for your rook!

  • 5.Qxf3 Qxd4 6.Be3 Qg4 7.0-0-0?! (7. Qf2! gives a dangerous attack)

  • Why play this kind of garbage line, don't get it. It will be white who has to try to equalize position which is almost impossible. In this 5 Qxf3 Qxd4 line black is clearly better and all white cant do is to try some cheap tricks.

  • @chesss1985 even if its crap it will brighten you horizon and understanding of chess because it will influence the dynamics of the game...

  • @chesss1985 yes actually i also think i dont think its that good....

  • I would like to play against you Kevin "the agressive player"

  • Okay listen chess website. I have around a 2000 rating when it comes to standard rating. However my blitz rating is horrible. People say study the openings. I hate studying openings because its boring. So many "he do that i do this he do that i do this he do that i do this" scenarios. I honestly don't know how you guys memorize all this shit. I'm lucky to remember to put on a clean pair of underwear in the morning. Peace :)

  • @JiuClaw22 amen to that brother, i hate playing playing rehearsed, formulaic chess. too much memorization and not enough skill. maybe its just me, but i like to have enough time to think before a move rather than make it simply because that's what the book says

  • Well I think there may be a problem, can't pawn on e4 en passant to d3?

  • @popachris101 I dont think your allowed to en passant unless the pawn just moved so I think its fine...

  • Would you ever show the lines getting declined or transposing from Caro-Kahn?

  • Hey man, I also noticed, before you got into the variations on the pawn on f3, blacks best move, would be to bush the pawn to e3, and force the black bishop to develop to a bad square, and gain tempo. and what if the black queen moves back home next to king? you cannot castle queenside imediately, and moving the rook alone would waste a valuable queenside castle. how coudl u play against that?

  • I just watched this video today and played this opening and it worked extremely well. Thank you for making this video.

  • Kevin is there any kind of opening that is good for black, please and thank you

  • kevin, what if blacks fourth move is Knight to c6 instead of knight to F6,more like thinking of an exchange, i kinda find the lines i experienceed kinda hard for white

  • love your videos, not your retarded comment. But I digress, this is some aggressive play!

  • wow ok ive been looking up and reading up on this gambit, and everywhere they say you will rarley win with this gambit. People continue to criticized this way of playing. why is that?

  • The BDG is my favorite opening! Unfortunately the variation demonstrated in this video (The Ryder Gambit) is dubious at best. After White castles long, Black has the advantage: 7. O-O-O? Qxf3 8. Nxf3 c6 -/+ Andre- Reinhard, Correspondance game). Now if Black fails to take the White's D Pawn with 5..Qxd4!, White has chances! Thanks for posting a video on my favorite gambit, which doesn't get enough respect.

  • second part covers the original games played by Diemer

    Great games

    Mates in 10 moves usually

    What a blunder !!

  • Great Video!!!

  • can anyone recommend a sound opening for white,[besides queen gambit]

  • can anyone recommend a sound opening for white,[besides queen gambit]

  • @seamusf100

The Giuco piano can be interesting, particularly when played with the evans gambit (not sure if evans gambit is sound though)

  • @seamusf100 4 months ago you asked for a sound opening for white besides the queens gambit. I don't know if you still are looking for one but a few are maybe:

-for agressive players: the kings gambit

-for relaxed players: the scotch game

-Others: The closed sicilian/grand prix attack

  • @chessleach hmm i would say that the Itallian game is better for relaxed players. The scotch game is completely open and can get very tatical sometimes

  • @zex cooley i had the same thing happen, this is an interesting opening, i enjoy the openings where you play aggresively. thanks kevin.

  • it's an amazing strategy for early game =D

  • nice video!

  • if they slav-defence the queens gambit, then couldn't you play the exchange variation then go in to a kinda-sorta blackmar diemer gambit?

  • love this opening i played a somewhat blackmar diemer gambit and was down by 19 to 12 and still ended up winning and this was in the 14 move to

  • cheers Kevin!

  • Ahem. Please be careful with that R word. I love this segment but I am an assistant coach a Special Olympics Basketball Team. They work hard and do not need such comments aired. Having said that, I very much enjoy your videos. Keep up the good work.

  • @dinobrya

meh, fair enough I suppose, but it seems to me that a lot of people are going out of their way to try and be offended. There was no offence intended, and to be in my opinion you are being a bit precious here.

  • Interesting...I had used this gambit and I instead of the person bringing out his bishop he pushed his e7 pawn...I was able to fork his king and rook and won with a nice checkmate eventually.

  • thnx kevin nice!!!

  • Great vid as always Kevin

  • knight to b5 i think could lead to an unblockeble knight to c7 forking his pieces and going up in pieces if not tell me plese

  • "A lot of times black players are gonna look at you and think your retarded" Lol, nice

  • I am weak in middle games, i play the openings properly but after that i just dont know what to do, i saw the (middle game strategy) but i think i need more help.

  • yeah i find my self in a good position but then he does something and it goes wrong

  • Do the Spielmann Gambit

  • very intresting!
