  • THANK YOU for posting this! I've been reviewing everything from the time he announced his candidacy in '79 thru his death in '04. Nice to see others care about not only the greatest POTUS the US has ever seen-since Lincoln-but The Gippers legacy & all the good he did for America, as well as (then) Russia & SO many other countries worldwide. History is so important (tho like most kids I sure didn't think so when in school!). Actually-2012 is a LOT like '80 was when Reagan ran against Carter.

  • can someone tell me the president or person that got sniped from the building when he was in the limo?

  • @TOWPASSIE95 JFK

  • I remember that CNN incorrectly reported Rep. Giffords passed away and I remembered that James Brady had been reported as having passed away. It's too bad Frank Reynolds wasn't around to yell at those people.

  • watched this in my dorm, remeber the reaction not real nice

  • I watched this live. Seeing these images now beings back sad memories. Poor Secretry James Brady would never be the same... :(

  • Check out the dude at 1:45 just having a smoke like it's no big deal.

  • Wow, people are nuts.. in the slow motion around 5:40 some cameraman comes up behind Reagan, who's being pushed into a car-- into the line of potential fire and starts taking pictures.

I remember seeing this in the news so many times when I was a kid, probably the first time I became aware of politics, and decided that being President looked like a really crappy job.

  • He had a erotomania, not something political! Just for Jodie Foster.

  • Comment removed

  • see this is why people are stupid. he did it to "impress" Jodie Foster. LOL seriously??? unreal.

  • SNL was brilliant after this. "Buckwheat has been shot, repeat, Buckwheat has been shot! Buckwheat is dead. and Eddie Murphey's Buckwheat was never heard from again.

  • I remember clearly when this happened. My first thoughts were "Not again!" After John Kennedy was murdered, I was glad when Oswald got his. I was hoping Hinckley would too. Instead he ended up with 30 years in Club Fed Hospitals. He should have been fried. Now Hinckley's whining about wanted more weekends out of the hospital. Since when does someone who's criminally insane (supposedly) get weekends off? Is he supposed to be sane on weekends?

  • @Marty933 if u think oswald killed jfk ur crazy

  • @sliat1981 And were you even alive when John Kennedy was murdered? From your spelling ability, I'd guess not.

  • 1980-1981 were crazy times. Within a matter of months, John Lennon and Anwar Sadat were assassinated, and assassination attempts where made on Reagan, Queen Elizabeth II, and Pope John Paul II.

  • president himself WAS hurt

    different cameraman

    03:24 different cameraman

  • maybe SoldierUSArmy IS hinckley

  • Wow, the photographer at 3:30 is brave...standing right next to Reagan, and moves forward to take a picture while the shots are still ringing out.

  • Interesting how long it took the ambulnces and additional patrol cars to arrive.

  • I was getting ready to go to work when this happened.

When I got to work, I told people what happened and only one or two believed me.

    Think about that one ...

I was about to go to work when a flash came over the TV that shots were fired at President Reagan.

Talk about wanting to stay home.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • @GeorgeVreelandHill I remember when this happened, too. I was going through the card catalog at the library, trying to write a book on George Herbert Walker "poppy" Bush. Unfortunately the reference points I was trying to find literature for, were no where to be found. I had to wait 20 years for the internet to attain this knowledge and correlate the connectedness of the aforementioned pedo-satanist with just about eveything Evil there is on Planet Earth.

  • Humans call themselves intelligent... what a joke of a species.

  • CNN in it's Chicken Noodle Network days... Great how the cop ducks huh?... the guy in dark trench coat to the right, apparently and under cover cop, really was on top of his job that day. Dig the guy next to him nonchalantly smoking a cig..

  • CBS actually went back to regular programming (even if briefly)?!?!?

I would have thought that all of the "Big 3" would have stayed on the air after the first bulletin instead of going back (briefly) to regular programs until either they knew how serious it was or (had President Reagan not been hit) official word that the President had not been hurt.

BTW, if this had happened a few weeks earlier, Walter Cronkite might well have been in the CBS anchor chair that day.

  • Who's the guy at 1:31 running back to the limo with a briefcase.

  • @windex1234 The military aide with the launch codes.

  • @windex1234

My guess is guy with nuclear codes... (aka "The Football")

  • that is one afro that dude has

  • lmao, the secret service done a better job protecting the shooter than the president. doh.

  • i was there :O

  • check out the guy puffing away on a cigarette at 10:03 like he was watching a tv show....strange.

  • @italy4blktop i saw that, no doutb he was one of bushs men, waiting there as a spotter to give him the news he wanted to hear.

  • I remember seeing this on television. This was played constantly on that day.

  • 7:33 the guy in the back barely get any attention.. assholes..

  • @ElixiricEssence That's Tim McCarthy. He was a Secret Service agent. At 5:20 you can see him turn and take the bullet.

  • @SecretService80 he takes the bullet and still he gets the last medical attention.. man.. wait is he like the one that survived and was left paralized in a wheel chair..

  • @ElixiricEssence No, that was Press Secretary Brady, McCarthy fully recovered and retired. He is now the Chief of Police of Orland Park, IL.

  • @ElixiricEssence Yes he is.

  • 0:50 the guy with the uzi took chance to look like a president.. while the other one is down..

  • the bald guy with the ozzie looks like a champ

  • Comment removed

  • wait, hilton hotel as in richard howard hilton, hotel magnate?

  • Once again for those of you just joining us, Buckwheat HAS been shot

  • Being an American, I hate that the only time my country ever feels united is in tragedy--it shouldn't be this way.

  • I know there was a lot of chaos that day regarding information about the attempted assassination, but knowing now what we know about what happened right after Reagan's limo left the scene, I still find it hard to believe that it took so long to inform the public ASAP that indeed, Reagan had been shot. Newscasters kept emphasizing that the President had not been hit, but he collapsed as soon as he walked into the hospital! Why so long to report? And now we know that he came close to death too.

  • Suspect 1: Man took James Brady's briefcase ran north. 0:00

Suspect 2: Man was smoking like nothing happened 0:18

  • @tan5475 "Suspect 1" was a military official, I don't remember the name, who was carrying the "Nuclear football", or the President's personal nuclear codes, away from the shooting. He hit the deck like any trained authority would (except Secret Service) when they hear gunfire.

  • In This Video Clip, Contains Coverage Of The Shooting Of U.S. President Ronald Reagan From CBS News And CNN, On March 30, 1981.

  • Strange seeing Max Robinson covering this in Chicago considering his background as a longtime anchor for WTOP in Washington prior to joining ABC News.

  • @Market42Fan Correction. That was a CNN guy, not Max R.

  • Anyone catch the guy smoking at 3:55? I wonder if he had already been smoking or he started because of nerves?

  • The Democrats planted John Hinkley there........

  • boy they were adamant at first that reagan wasn't shot

  • 01:31 Was it the 'Eagel' with the 'football' - the guy with the suitcase that run away after shooting took place?

  • The black agent - SHAFT!

  • 02:47 Damn! Look at that fro!

  • SoldierUSArmy lives in his mom's basement looking at "Gun N' Ammo" naked...

  • @SoldierUSArmy Are you serious! No President no matter what Party (Jack Kennedy-Remember) deserves to be gunned down. You need your head cheak....I don't care what ideology, no President deserves to die in office....This country can't take another (Nov 22) again. We are still suffering for Jack Kennedy's death to this day.

  • @norr4636

    Definitly.

A President shot is a reason for a war and even War III. Nobody really wants that to happen.

    Greeting out of Germany

  • @3TREitem Thanks my friend

  • @norr4636

Agree with the start of your statement, but Jack Kennedy was a politician not a savior. Get over your hero worship of the glorified demogogue.

  • @Kickingit06 I don't worship Jack Kennedy....So get over you hate for the Kennedies. Jack Kennedy was a man...FLAWED..but was admired by many including many in the GOP and the mainstream RIGHT...but hated by the far right no question

  • @Kickingit06 If you think NOVEMBER 22 was a great day for the country...you need your head check. I stand by my whole statement...the country CAN'T take a another NOV 22 again.

  • @norr4636 Right on! I may not agree with Reagan's politics during his presidency, but I sure as hell don't think he deserves to be shot down.

  • yeah the guy smoking what does it take to get him excited

  • MrVLocC: There's no "hahaha" about it. Of course he'd produce a weapon and take charge. It's what agents are trained to do in a crisis. What you you have done? Suck your thumb? Light up a joint? Laugh "hahaha?"

  • Haha secret service dude whips out the Uzi and starts yellin orders

  • who is the guy at 1:48 smoking as if nothing happened

  • whoever the mr-i am smoking like it's cool and acting like a retired special forces guy is, it doesnt matter. he's probably dead from cancer by now. your question has been answered. somewhat in a bizarre fashion but an answer none the less. you can sleep better now knowing that the calm smoking man is probably dead by now but maybe his kid's or grandkid's are doing the same thing-> standing around acting like nothing happened whenever something happens. lol sorry if my jibber jabber is annoying.

  • @k228usmc YOU ARE TOO FUNNY....THE MAN SMOKING WAS ACTING TOO COOL AND CALM...LOL

  • joe beck

  • I think it's the guy from the X-Files...

  • Yea..pretty weird! Need a smoke ..just another day...
