@TheSoldiersMind Short version of this song, named Triage at Dawn, was introduced in final game, right after you escape Ravenholm, in the near base (when combine soldier and rebel fight) a guy anemd winstons been hit. The songs plays that part. and the full version was never introduced.

@KevinJRattman Contrary to popular belief, there never was an extended version released. Path of Borealis is actually a remix by DJ Dain, who based it off of Triage at Dawn. Then a troll went to a forum board claiming the song was an extended version granted to him by Gabe Newell. After that, it spread like wildfire. Also commonly mistaken is that Viktor Antonov wrote the song. Viktor does work at Valve, just he's not a composer, he's a steampunk artist. Check the Combine Overwiki.

imagine this song playing, at the end of episode 3, Gordon heavily wounded, walking in the ruins of city 17, everyone he knew dead, alyx, dr kliener, eli, barney, when all of a sudden, he falls to the ground, and the camera does that dramatic zoom out from above while going in 360 degrees.... epic ending to an epic series, huh?

I believe that Gordon Freeman is the link between the Overworld, Xen, and Earth. Hence, he will probably have to die at the end of Half Life 3, putting an end to the series. But the end of the series will be a dark day - The entire world will feel it. We need a movie after that. If not, I don't know how I could ever forgive Valve for ending it forever...

@ureteralclock Like I said, Gordon Freeman was the one who opened Earths link to the Vortessence, hence, I believe he is also the link between Xen, the area that Portals need to "Swing Around", the Overworld, where the Combine come from, and Earth, where a completely retarded race called the Humans come from. The Vortessence is the "Void" that connects worlds, and is referred to by the Vortigaunts most commonly.

@Anthraxboy501 i thought that big white thing at the end of Half-life 1 was the link between xen, because when Gordon killed it the portal to xen at Black Mesa closed even though the portal closed the combine spread all over the world. even if freeman dies the combine will still be here because the combine already came through using portals they made to get to earth.

@DeusExism Take solace in this: Alyx's near death experience in Ep2 took away the shock value of killing her, so we can at least guess that the writers won't do that. Therefore, it seems logical that the future of Half-Life will at least feature her. Can't say about any other characters, though...
