  • Mike Mangini?

  • Somebody is using my username. I have not commented on Mile Mancini. I don't follow drummers, I'm percussionist.

  • Mike Mangini's Dream Theater first solo in Rome:

    /watch?v=5kCIYoseYys

  • 1:45 Mangini starts hitting crashes out of fear that his hair has just caught fire. :) DENNIS CHAMBERS RULES!

  • even mike was looking back at dennis chambers like dam

  • An early drum solo with mangini

    watch?v=9x6HnVLdNiI

  • it makes sense why DC was behind Mike mangini. so mike could feel the ass beating dennis is giving him when he solos. Mike has to tone his shit down when people are soloing. and no matter how good Mike's chops are, they aren't in sync with the groove and just sounds like pure noise, plus it sounds like he rips off from Terry bozzio a lot. DT should've gotten Bozzio instead. over all they are both really amazing drummers and love them both.

  • @josecandelario777 you understand nothing.

  • @josecandelario777 Sorry, but you are absolutely wrong.

  • DREAM THEATER

  • mangini seems a little quicker than portnoy, but Portnoy surely smokes!!

  • @mediblue9 a little? :D He's not only faster than Portnoy but he's also technically more advanced

  • MIKE MANGINI IS NEW DREAM THEATER DRUMMER!

  • MIKE MANGINI IS DEFINITELY A BEAST OF SICK DRUMMER!!!!!

  • mangini HAD to be a douche and put his kit in front of dennis chambers and play crashes during dennis' solos. manginis kit should be behind dennis and bowing before him

  • in that very first salvo denis fired of , battle over

  • O.O this "drumbattle" is better than "tony royster with dennis"....AWESOME!!....

tha classic drummers are the beast!...actually i prefer aquiles priester...you all should see his videos...greetings from chile =) peace and love friends!

  • look i know young drummers that can play but they also know they history do your research dennis chambers will kill mike with one hand i been to more clinics than u ever will u still got some growing to do

  • @dm6testa777 do my research? I've watched HUNDREDS of Dennis Chambers videos and Mike Mangini videos, what more "research" do you want me to do? I saw Mike Mangini play a 15 minute drum solo 2 FEET away from me at Berklee. I GREW UP listening to Dennis Chambers, he was one of the first drummers I studied and got deeply into. I know A LOT about both drummer's techniques and how they do what they do. I LOVE both. But I happen to know that, technically speaking, Mike can do MORE (not "better").

  • @Proghead88 so than u knoe dennis is the god of drumming admitt it he made number 3 best drummer on the planet

  • @dm6testa777 While I absolutely couldn't care less about magazine polls and random editorial lists (that are constantly changing based on waves of opinions and "trends"), I do admit, like I always have, that Dennis Chambers is one of the best drummers alive to ever sit in front of a set of drums. Does that make you happy? lol.

  • @Proghead88 dude u just a kid u are still on novice level i thought u could play they way u where talking look get some more history and skill on the drums they we can talk and debate a kid

  • @dm6testa777 I won't take you seriously until you take the time to spell properly what you want to say to me. You're clearly just resented that someone younger might have an actual valid opinion and you keep using age as a distraction technique. Learn to debate.

  • @Proghead88 i never will take u serious u anit no drummer nor should anyone on this page take u serious i know 12 year old drummers that can drum better than u its clearly u a joke dont u go get a job at mcdonalds leave the drumming to us real drummers little kid

  • @Proghead88 little kid for the last time u anit no drummer u got alll these styles on your page that u wanna play but cant play dennis chambers is the god of drumming get over it kid

  • @dm6testa777 You're an idiot. Learn to at least SOUND like a "grown up". Your grammar makes you sound like a 10 year old. And for the record, I TEACH 12 year old kids. You know when someone can't win an argument? When all they do is attack the other person just because of something so superficial as age. I ALREADY SAID DENNIS CHAMBERS IS INSANELY GOOD. But no, you gotta be a whiny little prick and keep insulting me because you want to act like a tough guy. You're making an ass out of yourself.

  • @dm6testa777 Guess what I went to your page:

    1) at least I've played on a REAL set for 10 years.

    2) Your technique sucks

    3) Get a life and ACCEPT that you CAN'T always be right

    4) You're 27, I'm 21, big fucking deal.

  • @Proghead88 u dumb fuck i just got that eletric set i can beat u with one hand my rolls and fills not to mention chops are killing u i display 4 diffrent styles u cant even play one you one of those young dumb dudes that like to sound smart but is really dumb as hell i bet ya mommie and daddie got that drum set for you u cant even play it u have bad timing no rolls no chops no fills

you cant even play in the pockect u a joke to real drummers and to people period little kid

  • @dm6testa777 I also bought that kit with my own money, that I earned by teaching drums, guitar, bass, and keyboards at the Miami School of Rock. I might not be the best funk drummer, but that's not what we're talking about here. We are comparing two drummers by their technical ability alone. I PREFER Dennis' GROOVE, but I KNOW for a fact that Mangini's TECHNIQUE is more advanced. It's a simple fact, and you don't have to have played for 30 years to realize it. Give credit where credit is due.

  • @dm6testa777 it's also amazing how you're so keen on insulting me, when I already repeatedly stated that Dennis is second to none in many ways. But NOOOO you HAVE to WIN don't you? Who's being the little kid here? I'm done with you.

  • @Proghead88 u only been playing drums for ten years no wonder u sorry lol and try to use lame effects to cover up that poor ass drumming of yours

  • @dm6testa777 Rolls? Really, is that how you name your rudiments? Or do you really mean actual rolls? Cause you know... I won't use rolls in a song if it doesn't call for it. To you drumming is some sort of sport where there are winners and losers. To me, drumming is art, and the moment you start saying "I'm better than you little kid" you stop sound like the hopefully mature drummer that you CLAIM to be, and you keep sounding like a kid. That's not an insult, it's just an observation of irony.

  • @dm6testa777 Also, the rolls you were playing on your vids sound very sloppy. Again, I'm not trying to insult you, I'm just being honest. If you're going to insult my technique you should look at yours first. My rolls actually SOUND like 32nd notes. I played quints 4 years in high school and I actually learned to play rolls how they're SUPPOSED to sound. Just because I didn't use them in a song that DOESN'T NEED THEM, doesn't mean you can just dismiss my technique, when yours is not that great.

  • @Proghead88 little kid this is about u talking like u know what you talking about thinking u a drummer and telling me the far more better drummer what i need to work on now if dennis chambers, russ miller, jason bitter, clydestubble field, lars ulrich.phil collins or buddy rich tells me what i need to work on than im gone listen there real drummers o and dont worry i have to tell off at least one drumless drummer a month i luv drum debating

  • dennis was doing one hand moves its clear he is the best mike was doing alot of double bass

  • @dm6testa777 Mike is more precise and thought out. He's doing harder parts than Dennis. Dennis is just exploding with his playing, but Mike has much more technical finesse. I don't know who the hell said that about Dennis. Mangini is known as one of the most technically advanced players on the planet. Also, the kind of double bass that Mike was doing is not your typical basic 16th note thing. He's using it with as much control and variety as the hands. Dennis is slugish with his feet. So what?

  • @Proghead88 u anit even seen all of dennis chambers videos go look up his stuff from the 80's and 90's mike anit doing nothing i havent done b4 or have the frummers reading this not to mention dennis chambers is in the back u cant see have of what he is doing he is holding back alot and on top of that dennis cambers made the 3rd greatest drummer in the world mike wasnt even on the top ten and on top of that dennis chambers plays latin, funk, blues, jazz, neyojazz, beebop samba, rock and hiphop

  • @dm6testa777 So does Mike. I'm a huge Chambers fan. I've seen most of his videos over the last 8 years. This is how he normally solos. It's a pretty decent one by him. Kinda average for him. But still amazing obviously. I'm just saying mike is more exact with his ideas. They are more technically precise.

  • @dm6testa777 Also, Mike can play all those styles (and teaches them at Berklee) on both left handed and right handed sets. It's insane. That's all I'm saying: He's more of a "freak" than Dennis. P.S. I've seen enough Chambers vids to know pretty well what he's doing. Also, what list are you quoting? You're quoting it like it's the determining factor of who's better. This is not about who likes who more. I'm talking about the raw abilities of their hands. Mike can play everything Dennis can play.

  • @Proghead88 its a complete fact dennis is better than mike mike plays 2 styles de nnis chambers also teaches at drum camps once again do your history tony royster is on mike level mayb even better mike can play but he cant fuck with dennis chambers mike didnt even crack the top ten drummers in the world list

  • @dm6testa777 The moment you say "it's a complete fact" about anything that is based on opinion, you automatically take away your right to look down on me for my age. I would've thought you'd learn that by now. Also, why do you keep bringing up random lists. This is between your opinion and mine, not some random editor of a magazine. So, Dennis teaches too, of course he does, he's one of the best drummers in the world. All I'm saying is that Dennis would have a hard time with Mike's polyrhythms.

  • @Proghead88 no wonder u lack drum wisdom u just 21 u still wet behinde the ears u anit been playin long enuff to make calls

  • @dm6testa777 believe it or not, there are people who've been playing for 40 years who sound like shit. AGE DOES NOT MATTER. Only the argument. You seem to have a fixation with that, and it's not helping you. Mike Mangini is a machine. He was the world's fastest drummer for years and probably still is up there. He's made it his life passion to be able to play anything with any technique, at any speed, in any time signature. You might like Dennis more, and that's fine, but don't lie to yourself.

  • that´s art!

  • I was there. Nice to see this.

  • seriously, dennis is so much more refined as a drummer, both are amazing, but dennis is in the top top level with virgil donati, marco minneman, buddy rich, those guys who are all chops. Mike is freakin awesome though, i took from him at berklee in boston, even better to watch in person, hes a real showboater in his own way haha

  • Dennis is like...you're good but let me show you something, kid.

  • Pensei que o manguini dificultaria pro Dennis. Que nada, ele (o Dennis), ainda continua sendo o "+ cavalo", o mais virtuoso!

  • Two incredible drummers, but....ANY two drummers playing even slightly different grooves simultaneously sounds horrible. Unnecesary chaos. This does NOT sound good (the shitty recording quality helps very little of course).

  • You have no clue whats even going on here mikper7

  • @jjdrummer108 Oh please, you're a pompass jerkoff.

  • yes im a jerkoff. thats why you have a -2 on your comment? good one.

  • @jjdrummer108 Um, yeah that means a lot

  • I just have to interfere: jjdrummer108, mikepr7 is right. This sounds pretty silly, because they don't play the inch together, they just showoff in different modes (slightly shufflish beat, where they play massive ammount straights -> contradiction). Better example of drummers soundin good together is the classic clip of Steve Gadd, Dave Weckl and Vinnie Colaiuta playing in the Buddy Rich memoriam. Eventhough they solo and theres A LOT of straights, they play INSIDE the latin-beat behind them.

  • It was hilarious to see Chambers' almost phlegmatic playing of a simple groove to turn such an aggressive beating to show Mangini "Yeah, I can play this game." :)

  • Never heard that word used outside of a song before.

  • Which one?

  • Phlegmatic. :D

  • Both great. Must say Mangini plays more interesting poly rhythms, and breaks it up more. Although it might sound like chaos, everything he's playing is mathematically correct. He's actually "deeper in the groove".

  • silly boy.

  • kind of an odd matchup, but really cool. i don't think either did better than the other. they have two TOOOOTAALLY different styles, and it definitely shows.

  • mike is not playing... he is just talking.. talking the drum language

  • Comment removed

  • Dennis Chambers=Usain Bolt

    Mike Mangini=Dwain Chambers

  • Mike has a really cool concept but not the deep groove Dennis has. Dennis is so fluid and groovy where mike is chops and patterns but not as musical.

  • Those crashes Mangini did were lame..

  • dennis got mike hate to say

  • Dennis THE BEAST Chambers

    MIKE THE SICK MANGINI

  • Hence the term "solo". Way to go, Mike...bleh.

  • Wow, DC is really an animal !!! :-)

  • mangini needs to tone it down when dennis is playing...what a twat!

  • i just wish mangini wouldn't have overused the crashes so much during dennis' solos

  • Yeah, exactly, thats not fair

  • u cant hear dennis cuz the mikes camera is drounded out by mikes gayness....dennis rocks

  • Two of the greatest drummers on the world... really great coordination!!

    They are awesome...

  • salut mangini !! bien ! va voir ton coussin!

tape "thierry sing johnny hallyday "

    chao ! thierry MANGINI

  • OMFG!!!!!

  • Great !

  • Dennis does such a great job playing with other drummers. He always gets out of the way when hes turn is over. Great vid of two of my favorites!

  • they are both amazing byt dennis kicks mike in grove any day of the week

  • its hard to believe the co-ordination of these legends, i guess you have to do the math.

the clinic in singapore was great

  • equally amazing drummers, very different style. interesting.

  • dennis got em

  • this is tight. It would have been easier for them if they were side-by-side so they could read eachother better.

  • amazing drummers both of them!!!

  • Would have been nice if Mike chilled out a little during Dennis' solos so he could here him kicking his hind quarters.

  • I think just splashed myself

man Il never get that good,

  • they are both fuckin' sick beyond treatment..

  • Thanks For Posting this!

    Mike is really amazing..

Saw him live a couple of years ago..

    incredible drummer!

And Dennis really can kick some ass to :)

  • W O W!

  • Thank you for this!

  • Holy freakin' crap, that was awesome

  • TOO... MUCH... TO... HANDLE...

  • OMG - Where did this come from??? Thank you.

  • I came across a VHS cassette that had this footage on it. It appears to be the source material, and if it isn't it looks pretty close for being VHS. The whole thing was only about 45 mins, half just Mangini and the other half both of them. I figured I'd throw it up on youtube for any of the Mangini - Chambers fans out there.

  • That's awesome! Thanks so much for the upload, great stuff!! :D

  • @myworthlessbox Thanks a million dude ;-D
