As a final example, in 2009 one of the major NYC hospitals advertised for approximately 7 new grad positions (new grads are expensive to train, training costs ranging from $20,000 on up). In response to their ad for 7 new grads, they got 1,600 applications. What does that tell you???
What is the real disgrace and immorality behind all this is that nursing schools, both 2 and 4 year, continue to recruit and fill as many seats as they can with aspiring students, knowing full well that there is no where for these people to go. It's true that there are alot of nursing jobs out there but all require min of 1 year experience. Once your facility has paid to train you for a year then you will find numerous jobs. Until you have that one year, you are SOL and waiting tables.
HA! The nurse from Horizon Healthcare = clueless as to what is really going on. I grad from a 4 yr priv college with a 3.5 GPA, dept honors, stellar letters of recommend & dont even get callbacks.Looking for homecare that has new grad training program. Now finding out that those of my colleagues who were hired in hosp were nurse's aides at the facilities who hired them. & those people ran with approx a C average. So apparently hard work doesnt matter nor good grades. I am really disgusted.
Im seeing more and more its not about "what you know" its about "who you know"
