It is such a convenient urban myth that she choked on a ham sandwich! It pisses me off that the people won't shut their yaps about it! She ( as most of us know) died as a result of a heart attack. She crash dieted and her weight fluctuated her whole life. Let's not forget how wonderfully talented and naturally beautiful she was. She was so authentic and as somebody who really relies on good quality music to get me through the good and the bad, she is top on my list.

Right up there with Garland & Sinatra, Cass Elliot was one of the most brilliantly-talented singers of the 20th century.

It's sad to consider the toll society's ideas about "body image" took on her life & career.

From what I've read she associated being called "Mama" with her weight and hated being known as just Mama Cass from the M&P and not Cass Elliot a singer/entertainer by her own rights (I hope that makes sense). Anywho I figured if she went so far as to sing a song, name an album and host a television special all saying don't call me "Mama Cass" anymore she was serious about it.

Without Cass Elliott there is no Mamas and Papas! When that group broke up Cass Elliott's career sky rocketed. It's sad that she died so young because if she were alive today who knows what other great things this talented lady would have done.

I wish SOMEBODY would this fucking TV special on DVD!!! I asked her daughter about it once, and she gave me some song and and dance about the people who owned it died or whatever..
