I have a western digital My Book that died yesterday, so I have removed the 1Tb 3.5'' hard drive and have tried to connect it to my computer with a USB Hard drive dock. The drive spins up but the computer does not detect it, it just say drive not found. Any ideas, as it contains a lot of valuable data.
Thank you for the theory. It's bright me up. I have seagate 160 GB, and it is Clicking. Does the circuit board on back of the HD coat with any electric insulation ? Using damp sheet of cloth (real damp) clean up dust on the board, can it couse any failure ? It happen Clicking after I did. The board was compleatly dry befor the unite was powered on.

dropped my external hard drive. when i turn it on windows will detect it for a few seconds as a drive(not the usual WD icon) then i get a message saying the drive needs to be formatted. the computer will then hang until i turn off the drive. Any chance it can be fixed?

So I have a slightly old Seagate Baracuda 7200.7 (ST380013A) 80 gigabyte. It spins up, but it refuses to read. Windows Vista's disk management program detects it, but wants me to initialize it...I try to initialize, says the device is not ready. Any idea why that is?
@Kyithios Initialize means it will format the drive. I don't think that's what you want to do is it? If you have important data on there, take a look at the write-up for this video by clicking on more info. Scroll to the bottom and call that company Gilware if you want to recover data.
can you possibly tell me what is wrong with my external hard drive? the light comes on and there is no clicking sound, but I don't see it show up anywhere on my computer. it's not in disk management either.
@heinz57mama It's tough to tell. If you don't hear the hard drive spinning up it could possibly be the drive controller. If you have your local repair shop test the drive, they will be able to tell you.
Did I just see on your website that you charge $299 for virus removal?! Dude, are you freaking insane?! People pay you this?! You should be ashamed man!
@mattbrad2 Yes, On-Site Virus Removal can be very costly. We currently charge that because we have found that to remove viruses completely, it can from 3-6 hours depending on the severity of the virus and the number of viruses. We base our rates on the average amount of time it takes to perform the job.
People who don't have the option of reformatting or getting a new PC do pay this.
We know it is a lot of money, that's why we offer maintenance plans starting at $19/month to prevent viruses.
Yes I'm fully aware of how long this takes. I've owned my own computer repair business for 15 years. I charge $69 flat rate for virus removal without having to reformat the PC. Yes, thats probably on the cheap side but what you are doing is charging more than the PC is probably worth. Thats insane!
@mattbrad2 The fact is that sometimes the virus removal is more expensive than the computer is worth, but sometimes the client would prefer to fix their existing computer rather than purchase a new one.
It seems like you are offended that you charge $69 when we have been charging $299. It's called the free market. We don't force people into getting service from us. They can easily go to you...but they choose us.
I can only say that we offer a service that people want, need and are happy with.
@mattbrad2 Why is a BMW 5 Series two times more expensive than a Toyota Camry when they both are similar in size, and features and they both get your from point A to point B?
Quality. Brand. Reputation.
If people are not willing to pay top dollar for your services, it might be a reflection of your services, your image or reputation.
Just don't go on YouTube questioning our reputation. Our clients are satisfied and we are glad to be able to serve them.
@playaz33 No, sorry. I'm sure you guys do a great job. It just ticks me off that people moan and groan about paying even the cheaper prices. I could charge $25 and people would still say its too high. I agree with the on-site work. It's a lot of time spend on one machine. When you can't multitask you'll end up losing more money than if you stayed back at the shop. However I still can't get over how someone would pay more than the computer is even worth. That blows my mind.
@mattbrad2 So if a virus removal takes you 6 hours, then your hourly rate is $11.50. That's great if you can sustain your business at that rate. Congratulations. We cannot. We may have expenses that you don't have. I appreciate your input, but I don't think it is fair to try to judge what is "Insane" or reasonable pricing. The free market will decide that. Good luck to you and your business.
@playaz33 Easy, I work on 4 or 5 at a time. I make a 6 figure salary charging this amount. I fix on average of 100-150 machines a month. Its easier than you think
@mattbrad2 So on average you will service at least 5 computers a day. Wow, I can see how you would stay very busy. Sounds like there are a lot of people with computer problems in your area. What city are you in?
@playaz33 Winder, GA. Honestly, I thought most computer repair places did about this amount. I guess I'm just ignorant there. Granted, this is only been this way for the last 24 months. Ive seen an enormous increase in traffic lately with virus problems.
@mattbrad2 Man, GA is the place to be if you own a computer service business! Good luck and keep in contact. We computer service business owners need to stick together and help each other out, not fight with one another. If it were up to me, I would get all of the best technicians together and make one solid company to compete with Geek Squad.
Yes I'm fully aware of how long this takes. I've owned my own computer repair business for 15 years. I charge $69 flat rate for virus removal without having to reformat the PC. Yes, thats probably on the cheap side but what you are doing is charging more than the PC is probably worth. Thats insane!
You're watering it down (we both know that 99% of the people that come to you have no idea whats going on) that's good.
Often I do the exact same thing. I try to make my explainations as simple as possible, so it's easier for them to digest.
But even with simplifying things there also needs to be structure, which is the reason why I said what I said before. There was a little but it felt messy.
In closing, I really hate when people bash about pricing. "Sure it's quick and easy for us to do it, but can you?" Exactly. They don't. So what makes them think the things that we do should be much cheaper, or even sometimes for free?
hi i need help with my laptop i went to and update from service pack 2 to service pack three for windows xp and i acadently shutted it down during the update and now the laptop wont work at all like i can still log in but i can access any of my programs because it is always showing the busy sigh but the computer isn't busy so if you can still repair it with out the windows xp os disc.
my HDD is not recognized at all by my computer neither as slave or master. it doesn't do any sounds or clicking, just when i turn the computer on i get a black screen that says it cant read the disk.
any body know witch of this 3 is the problem? would the freezing trick work for this?
I dropped my WD MAC compatible hard disk (yes, it was a pretty stupid thing to do) but i really need my data. All it does now is make an odd BUZZ sound. data recovery is too expensive...how can I recover the data myself??
please help...dead hard drive is making me v depressed :(
Hi Joey, I have a 1 terrabyte external HD with about 6 bad clusters in it. I have already ran CHKDSK which I shouldn't have after further research. The drive still boots on my laptop and the files are being recognized, but movies aren't playing and pictures are taking awhile to load. Please set my mind at ease and tell me that when I get another terrabyte that windows vista will be able to transfer all the data to the new one. I am not using the old one until I get the new one and start transfer
Yeah, go ahead and connect that to your mom's computer and transfer the data you need. From there, try to put in a windows cd (has to be the correct one i.e. xp home, xp2, xp3 etc.)
After you put in the windows cd, go to install the os, but choose the repair option.
Ooooor you could fix the atapi.sys problem which is virus related and not have to *retrieve* any data at all. Playaz.. please advise people correctly here. You just told this person to reinstall the OS and all they need to do is replace atapi.sys. Good Lord man.
have an external 320G WD HD it was dropped, now it only gives me a drive letter and asks to be formatted, all of my sons pics are on it and are important to me
Here, Is a problem I have. My hard drive was going bad and kept locking up. My temper got the best of me and I threw the computer tower out the door and it bounced off a sidewalk. This resulted in a lot of loose parts in the computer case. I know I should not have done that but its done. My question is is there any possibility of retrieving the photographs off the hard drive. There were about 16,000 photographs on there. I bought a new computer system. Am I screwed or what should I do?
Just connect that hard drive to another computer. You can buy an external enclosure for that hard drive that will allow you to connect it to another computer via USB. I assume you don't have a backup hard drive. If you buy the external enclosure and use your existing hard drive, you will! Probably best to buy a new hard drive and reinstall the OS when you buy the replacement motherboard.
hey, i have a problem with my laptop... i lost all the programs in screen, including internet explorer, my computer, microsoft word and stuff, and also my taskbar... it was all blank... all i can see is the background of my computer.... can you help me how to fix it or restore it?...
hi, my pc crashed from a virus, if I use ubuntu cd 2 boot my pc and then use a external hard drive 2 recover my data will the virus still be there and get on the external HD? if so, how can I remove it? thanx in advance...
The virus might be transferred to the external drive. You will probably want to scan what you've transferred first before moving the stuff back. I like to use Avast to scan the external drive.
Hi my computer hard drive recently crashed, due to several factors. First my screen slammed on it real hard, started making weird noises thought it was dead, but later came back to life. Next I shut it down improperly and now it won't read even via usb. Says generic void usb device. Is it really dead? Doesn't make any noise now, whereas before it died it squealed like a pig. It's very quiet now through usb connection,
I'm no expert, however I believe in the future you should use an EXTERNAL mic to film. The audio could be better. An INTERNAL mic ALWAYS records the hum of the camera functioning. Just a thought...
whatever, what he teached is wonderful, but I can't undersdand it completely. every time I encounter data lost, I use Deleted File Recovery , it 's a free ware ,but good,I like it .also you can try it
Cudo's to you for the video attempt, there should be some corrections.
1. Hard drives do not work because of On-Off switches. (A logic circuit could be thought of as an On-Off switch, but that's a very gross analogy in this situation.)
2. Dropping a drive does not de-magnetize it or destroy the On-Off switches. But it can physically harm the internal parts.
3. FAT (and less so, NTFS), can be thought of as the Index and table of contents in a book.
I turned on my computer and it did a complete System Recovery without me wanting it to. (I think that's what it's called, it's when your computer goes back to the state when you first bought it) None of my stuff is where it's supposed to be, none of the functions that I downloaded are working. But when I did a search, I did find some of my files. How do I restore it all back?
hello, thanx for the info :) I had a WD hdd connected to my Mac when I had a power failure (it was writing to my hdd off a torrent when this happened) so I believe I have problem number one. I restarted my mac after the power failure but now the hdd lights up but doesn't appear in disk utility or the desktop. What can I do to recover my over 150 gigs of valuable information? Details would really help.
I need more info. Why did you use hdd erase in the first place? Are you saying that you think hdd erase is the reason you can't install Windows? It seems more likely that you can't install because of all of the bad sectors you're detecting. I don't think it has anything to do with hdd erase.
First erase HDD because i couldn't format(Windows XP boot doesn't worked, always with a blue screen error). Then i try install Windows XP and in the setup say he can´t have access to the HDD. But i think a know a part of the problem, i had the jumper in the "cable select" and i dont have a Ultra ATA cable. So now i have in "Master", but i just have here a laptop, i will need to get a cable adapter and try again.
I don't understand why people are rude to someone who is going out of their way to provide information to people who don't really understand this technical side to data recovery. Give the guy a hand for sharing free information for all the non-technical out there.
@shwebk Because he's sharing BS, giving very bad ideas, using hdd intensive apps that try to remap bad sectors can kill the drive for good in many cases, and logical failures are not so common in newer file systems ( oh btw FAT is so 80's man :) ) And watching other videos from this guy it's obvious he doesn't know what he's doing or talking about so E-Dumbers are some kind of scam ( for elderly people ) haha
Informational is not a word Mate. But thanks for the vid - I'm currently recovering a drive using HDDRegenerator and its taking 3days. Its showing 90+ Bad sectors right now but so far none-recovered. Does it recover after or during each bad find?
For informational purposes, I would suggest that you click on the link to Gillware in the "more info" section. It sounds like you have a problem that is beyond what HDD Regenerator can fix. Don't you think that looking up the word would be a good idea before trying to "correct" someone about it not being a word?
Yes, you're mistaken. I am NOT scanning a drive via USB. It was there because I backed everything up before I did any sector scans. BTW, I've recovered plenty of data for clients via a hard drive USB adapter. I don't know what you're talking about. Do you also think that it is "not professional" to recover data via USB or only scanning?
u r saying when hard drive heads are bad data recovery technicians are taking platters out the drive to a good drive. personally dont know anybody and never heard about that. all i know is to swap bad heads with working heads.
just a quick example.
-changing heads its taking me from 10 min to 30 min. dep. on the drive. (average 95% are sucsesfull)
-changing platers to a donnor drive from 1 hour up to 2 hours (70% positive rate).
I've never claimed to be an expert on opening drives and doing anything hardware related to them. That's why I send my drives to the company I talked about in the video called Gillware. They are the experts when it comes to recovering data via hardware replacement/repair methods. I would love to see a video on how you do those head replacements. I think it would be very informative.
I'm the "bloke" you're talking about. If you think that I don't have a clue then why don't you make a video that explains what you "should do" instead of talking trash about me. Do something productive. It seems like you have good intentions when you're stating your opinion about my software recommendations. Why don't you make a recommendation instead of "pm me if u got and hdds problems". Am I right?
I need some help. My computer started making the beeping sound when it is turned on. Of course, the monitor would stay black and nothing would happen.
I eventually managed to get the computer going and ran a check on the hardware. Everything passed.
Now, the Windows XP loading screen appears, but when it is supposed to load the desktop the screen turns black. I can see the mouse and move it, however, that is as far as it goes.
Firstly, HDD Regenerator will simpoly kill your HDD. If a HD is dropped, it will likely siezt the motor not 'damage the magnetism', the sectors on a HD do not contain binary, it is hex, and also replacing the platter is a much more difficult and unnessecary talk for head failure.
HDD Regenerator has fixed many problems that I've experienced with clients' computers. You're right that dropping a hard drive may seize platters and I may have been wrong about the demagnetizing of the drive. It is difficult to measure how magnetized a drive is.
I said the WAY that data is stored is similar to binary even though I know it is actually more of a waveform pattern (analogy to simplify.) Replacing a platter is NOT recommended but sometimes necessary if recovery is critical.
As for your comment about not trusting me with your data, I am not handling their hard drives and wouldn't because that isn't my specialty. I even said that I would recommend that people take it to data recovery specialists.
So this dude(amystevenoah) doesn't know wtf hes talking about. I wouldn't trust HIM with anything. First off binary is a forum of hex and hex is a forum of binary. Google it. And if you drop a HDD if IS very possible to damage the magnetism and the heads and the patterns.
I contacted the people who made it and they said it will not work on external drives. They are telling me to take it out of case and hook it up internally in which i am not going to do that. I have been looking at SpinRite 6 and it does the same thing but better and it will work on my drive.
I've tried it on computers running all types of operating systems including xp and it has worked. The version of HDD Regenerator I tried is actually dos based and runs off of a bootable cd. It works independent on the type of operating system that is on the drive you are scanning. It just looks for bad sectors and tries to repair them. If it can't it marks them bad. It is very thorough.
Hey can you tell me how the fuck can i repair my WD pasport external hdd? Its got a shit load of bad sectors for some reason and i tryed everythinng to fix it. Everytime i try to put somthing on to it i get a DLAYED WRITE FAILED!
Hey, if I were you I would try the fuckin HDD Regenerator program I was talking about. It might take care of the shit load of bad sectors or it might not. It takes a while so BE PATIENT WITH IT!
so i'm guessing that through some weird error (i measured the voltages of all connectors - no excess voltage. and one of the four drives has some protective plastic wrapping all around, so damage through electrostatic discharge seems unlikely as well...) the pcbs got messed up.
oh well... still... nice vid :)
what tools for hard drive fixing would you recommend nowadays, considering you posted this video a long time ago?
as was already said, this was pretty informative but i would've loved it if more of the mechanical errors would've been covered. like what can happen to the pcb board.
i for example currently have the problem that all of a sudden four of my hard drives just stopped working in a sense that the discs won't even spin any more.
Yes you're right, the video could go more into depth about other hardware problems such as the PCB board. I figure this video would be a good introduction to some of the ways people could diagnose and fix some of the less complicated problems.
hey man great info here... my problem is that my first hard drive was showing NTLDR is missing message. however i got a new hard drive. I have the other hard drive installed in the PC right now because I want to get the past files off of it but I don't know how to. I see the past files in C:\ my backup files, but when i click on my backup, it shows windows file. when i click on windows file it opens up a bunch of gibirish. eg. appPatch, BUNDLE Config and so on i don't know what to do HELP PLEASE
Thought I should have an 80gig samsung that started clicking real bad a couple weeks ago. Ran spinrite (level 4) and after 13 hours the drive started going batty. It wasn't clicking, it was just going NUTS (sounded like it was alive!) Anyway it only went haywire for about 5min then went silent again for the remainder of the scan (7 more hours).
Booted it back up and whoala! Runs like it's brand new! Any ideas on how the software was able to correct a hardware problem?
I'm not sure that the software can repair what sounds like a mechanical issue...perhaps it was able to repair some of the bad sectors that wasn't allowing the OS to boot. Still recommend imaging that drive or copying all of the important data from it. We aren't sure how much longer that drive will last.
Its Joey with E-geniuses... (pops collar). What a pimp

Kyithios 1 year ago
@Kyithios Initialize means it will format the drive. I don't think that's what you want to do is it? If you have important data on there, take a look at the write-up for this video by clicking on more info. Scroll to the bottom and call that company Gilware if you want to recover data.

heinz57mama 1 year ago
@heinz57mama It's tough to tell. If you don't hear the hard drive spinning up it could possibly be the drive controller. If you have your local repair shop test the drive, they will be able to tell you.

Did I just see on your website that you charge $299 for virus removal?! Dude, are you freaking insane?! People pay you this?! You should be ashamed man!
mattbrad2 1 year ago
@mattbrad2 Yes, On-Site Virus Removal can be very costly. We currently charge that because we have found that to remove viruses completely, it can from 3-6 hours depending on the severity of the virus and the number of viruses. We base our rates on the average amount of time it takes to perform the job.
People who don't have the option of reformatting or getting a new PC do pay this.
We know it is a lot of money, that's why we offer maintenance plans starting at $19/month to prevent viruses.
playaz33 1 year ago
@playaz33
Yes I'm fully aware of how long this takes. I've owned my own computer repair business for 15 years. I charge $69 flat rate for virus removal without having to reformat the PC. Yes, thats probably on the cheap side but what you are doing is charging more than the PC is probably worth. Thats insane!
mattbrad2 1 year ago
@mattbrad2 The fact is that sometimes the virus removal is more expensive than the computer is worth, but sometimes the client would prefer to fix their existing computer rather than purchase a new one.
It seems like you are offended that you charge $69 when we have been charging $299. It's called the free market. We don't force people into getting service from us. They can easily go to you...but they choose us.
I can only say that we offer a service that people want, need and are happy with.
playaz33 1 year ago
@mattbrad2 Why is a BMW 5 Series two times more expensive than a Toyota Camry when they both are similar in size, and features and they both get your from point A to point B?
Quality. Brand. Reputation.
If people are not willing to pay top dollar for your services, it might be a reflection of your services, your image or reputation.
Just don't go on YouTube questioning our reputation. Our clients are satisfied and we are glad to be able to serve them.
playaz33 1 year ago
@playaz33 No, sorry. I'm sure you guys do a great job. It just ticks me off that people moan and groan about paying even the cheaper prices. I could charge $25 and people would still say its too high. I agree with the on-site work. It's a lot of time spend on one machine. When you can't multitask you'll end up losing more money than if you stayed back at the shop. However I still can't get over how someone would pay more than the computer is even worth. That blows my mind.
mattbrad2 1 year ago
@mattbrad2 So if a virus removal takes you 6 hours, then your hourly rate is $11.50. That's great if you can sustain your business at that rate. Congratulations. We cannot. We may have expenses that you don't have. I appreciate your input, but I don't think it is fair to try to judge what is "Insane" or reasonable pricing. The free market will decide that. Good luck to you and your business.
playaz33 1 year ago
@playaz33 Easy, I work on 4 or 5 at a time. I make a 6 figure salary charging this amount. I fix on average of 100-150 machines a month. Its easier than you think
mattbrad2 1 year ago
@mattbrad2 So on average you will service at least 5 computers a day. Wow, I can see how you would stay very busy. Sounds like there are a lot of people with computer problems in your area. What city are you in?
playaz33 1 year ago
@playaz33 Winder, GA. Honestly, I thought most computer repair places did about this amount. I guess I'm just ignorant there. Granted, this is only been this way for the last 24 months. Ive seen an enormous increase in traffic lately with virus problems.
mattbrad2 1 year ago
@mattbrad2 Man, GA is the place to be if you own a computer service business! Good luck and keep in contact. We computer service business owners need to stick together and help each other out, not fight with one another. I don't mind constructive criticism, but yours is just criticism.
playaz33 1 year ago
That's not a bad idea. anyways:
You're watering it down (we both know that 99% of the people that come to you have no idea whats going on) that's good.
Often I do the exact same thing. I try to make my explainations as simple as possible, so it's easier for them to digest.
But even with simplifying things there also needs to be structure, which is the reason why I said what I said before. There was a little but it felt messy.
naisanza 1 year ago
In closing, I really hate when people bash about pricing. "Sure it's quick and easy for us to do it, but can you?" Exactly. They don't. So what makes them think the things that we do should be much cheaper, or even sometimes for free?
Anyways, good luck on the company. Peace

Hi Joey,
I'm pretty sure I have the first problem you mention.
The PC had just finished shutting down and I turned it off at the plug as I was on my way out in a hurry.
XP would not boot next time I turned it on.
Sadly my fault.
(Drive is a 200GB Seagate in NTFS)
When plugged as primary master I don't even get a blue screen now.
It won't recognise it.
When I put the drive in as primary slave [or even secondary master] the next XP drive will not boot.
Whether in master/slave or CS configuration.
MadJewelz 2 years ago
The furthest I've got is either the scandisk page which hangs on 0%,
or the XP loading page comes up as if it's loading, then hangs after on a black screen.
The drive definitely spins up and gets warm, and there is no clicking.
My guess is all my data is still there but the FAT is corrupt.
I tried UBootCD but the diagnostics don't recognise a drive either, except the Hitachi app which did one time.
Is there any way to get at it and make it boot so I can run scandisk etc?
Thank you, Julian.

Yeah, go ahead and connect that to your mom's computer and transfer the data you need. From there, try to put in a windows cd (has to be the correct one i.e. xp home, xp2, xp3 etc.)
After you put in the windows cd, go to install the os, but choose the repair option.

How do you recover data from a harddrive that did`nt crash but the motherboard broke down?
barlog20 2 years ago
Just connect that hard drive to another computer. You can buy an external enclosure for that hard drive that will allow you to connect it to another computer via USB. I assume you don't have a backup hard drive. If you buy the external enclosure and use your existing hard drive, you will! Probably best to buy a new hard drive and reinstall the OS when you buy the replacement motherboard.

The virus might be transferred to the external drive. You will probably want to scan what you've transferred first before moving the stuff back. I like to use Avast to scan the external drive.

You might also want to scan the system after you reinstall the OS and migrate the data back.

Youtube is limiting my response.

I used "HDD erase 4.0" in my HDD drive and now i can´t install windows.
I try use HDD Regenerator and all sectors are BAD(at least until now)
Do you know what to do?
blueicePT 3 years ago
I need more info. Why did you use hdd erase in the first place? Are you saying that you think hdd erase is the reason you can't install Windows? It seems more likely that you can't install because of all of the bad sectors you're detecting. I don't think it has anything to do with hdd erase.
playaz33 3 years ago
First erase HDD because i couldn't format(Windows XP boot doesn't worked, always with a blue screen error). Then i try install Windows XP and in the setup say he can´t have access to the HDD. But i think a know a part of the problem, i had the jumper in the "cable select" and i dont have a Ultra ATA cable. So now i have in "Master", but i just have here a laptop, i will need to get a cable adapter and try again.
Soon i say the results.
(Ps: Sorry for my english)

I don't understand why people are rude to someone who is going out of their way to provide information to people who don't really understand this technical side to data recovery. Give the guy a hand for sharing free information for all the non-technical out there.
shwebk 3 years ago 13

-changing platers to a donnor drive from 1 hour up to 2 hours (70% positive rate).
mehowbabula 3 years ago
I've never claimed to be an expert on opening drives and doing anything hardware related to them. That's why I send my drives to the company I talked about in the video called Gillware. Hi all,
I need some help.
Any recommendations?
papaflan 3 years ago
Firstly, HDD Regenerator will simpoly kill your HDD. If a HD is dropped, it will likely siezt the motor not 'damage the magnetism', the sectors on a HD do not contain binary, it is hex, and also replacing the platter is a much more difficult and unnessecary talk for head failure.
I would not trust this man with my data!
amystevenoah 3 years ago
HDD Regenerator has fixed many problems that I've experienced with clients' computers. You're right that dropping a hard drive may seize platters and I may have been wrong about the demagnetizing of the drive. It is difficult to measure how magnetized a drive is.
playaz33 3 years ago
I said the WAY that data is stored is similar to binary even though I know it is actually more of a waveform pattern (analogy to simplify.) Replacing a platter is NOT recommended but sometimes necessary if recovery is critical.
As for your comment about not trusting me with your data, I am not handling their hard drives and wouldn't because that isn't my specialty. I even said that I would recommend that people take it to data recovery specialists.
I would not trust you to spell correctly.
playaz33 3 years ago
So this dude(amystevenoah) doesn't know wtf hes talking about. I wouldn't trust HIM with anything. First off binary is a forum of hex and hex is a forum of binary. Google it. And if you drop a HDD if IS very possible to damage the magnetism and the heads and the patterns.
Seon892002 3 years ago
HDD Regenerator will not "simpoly" kill your HDD. I would not trust you with my data, grammar, or spelling!
lowbatterysound 3 years ago
I contacted the people who made it and they said it will not work on external drives. They are telling me to take it out of case and hook it up internally in which i am not going to do that. I have been looking at SpinRite 6 and it does the same thing but better and it will work on my drive.
retsnom92 3 years ago
also people say it dont work with XP and it dont work with externals...
retsnom92 3 years ago
I've tried it on computers running all types of operating systems including xp and it has worked. The version of HDD Regenerator I tried is actually dos based and runs off of a bootable cd. It works independent on the type of operating system that is on the drive you are scanning. It just looks for bad sectors and tries to repair them. If it can't it marks them bad. It is very thorough.
playaz33 3 years ago
I would try it but when i downloaded it i couldent run it. The retards who made it did not give instructions on how to freeking use it.

I see the past files in C:\ my backup files, but when i click on my backup, it shows windows file. when i click on windows file it opens up a bunch of gibirish. eg. appPatch, BUNDLE Config and so on i don't know what to do HELP PLEASE

scorpiojudo,
It's not clear what your problem is but "NTLDR is missing message" is most likely just a corrupt file or two. Google "NTLDR is missing"
There's a ton of info on this

this was informative. i have an external harddrive that died a while back and i've been trying to narrow down the reasons for the failure.

Very informative!
