  • Brilliant!! Thank you soo much for the tutorial on this wonderful lick. This brought a smile to my face on this dark and rainy morning!

    Please keep these tutorials coming!

  • Simple and brillant ! Just like any riff should be !

  • awesome! thanks! keep the jazz tunes coming!!!

  • o.k. so my af-105 nt isnt the only given Ibanez prone to some funky vibrations... Great lesson... Thanks!

  • what about the solo

  • @RDblues47 Sorry no solos, just riffs and melodies :)

  • Great straight forward approach to getting the jazz sound in a potent lesson!

  • THANK YOU

  • thanks for posting this man. hearing your accent brings a smile to my face!

  • Hello, there wildman,,, I haven't played my guitar in a few years,,, I saw your lesson and dug it out,,, thanks for great inspiration, and a great lesson,,, keep the jazz coming,,, you are a great teacher

  • I always liked this track - thanks for the detailed lesson. This is a lot of trouble to go to so we can get this right. Cheers. You play the tune really well btw

  • What key is the piece in please? Assume G Major ?

  • G Minor.

  • i love your vids so much

    ur an awesome teacher

and i love the tabs that you provide with it

    helps sooo much

im tryin to leanr some more jazz guitar

    you are my inspiration tanks

  • great video. im gonna work on it. one little suggestion...i think/hope that folks choosing to watch instruction on wes montgomery could gather the simpler/more common chord shapes without string by string explanation--Bbj7, Gm7, for example. But love the vid. will be checking out the rest of yer stuff. thanks!

  • sounds like it needs a bit more swing in the head. very good video though.

  • hi thanks for that wondefull explanation

    Greetz from germany

  • When your playing the ii-V progressions, are the minor 9ths personal preference? In the fake book I have, the ii's written as minor 7ths. Great vid.

  • For the Wes version it has that little D to B, C to A, B to G# melody on the high E string which you get using the m9. Fake books tend to be a tad general with the harmony and through Jazz eyes C- could be either Cm7, Cm9 or even Cm11 depending on what melody/improvising the harmony is supporting.

  • if i smile and say mmmm yeh..will i look like i know how to play guitar :D haha

  • first of all id like to say its nice to watch a video of somebody that not only can play with the proper technique but also knows the notes he is playing and can back it with theoretical knowledge of the song as well. i really love the progression in this song, and i was wondering what position you like to play the d-b c-a b-g# melody in to get the slides to sound just so but it wasnt played in the video

  • your the best

  • excellent, where did you get the music? i have a simplified version in the real book 6th edition.

  • real book version is what he just played, it's not simplified, the only thing he played different was that in measure 20 he played an eb-9 instead of eb-7

  • Hi man,

Great tip on the G minor, (with the 2 and 3 finger), I would never thought in this way out. Congratulations.

  • it's actually a very common way of playing 7 chords in jazz

  • This is one of the best on the tube!! Cheers man!!!

  • really great teaching technique! Thank you.

  • great ... keep sharing please

  • Very clear lesson--I like how you break it down by each bar..easy to follow. Love this song too. Great riff, and nice chords.

    Ron

  • Nice one

  • Thanks, you are a great teacher, very clear and percise. Hope you will post more jazz classics like this.

  • Thanks for the chords,-I always have probs with these,-I worked out the single note runs ok,[from the first recording,-early 60's]-but got some of the chords wrong; I should be ok now, thanks to you!

  • great lesson, thank you

  • Wow! Excellent step by step advice! Thanks so much for uploaded and taking the time to lend your talent!!

  • That's fantastic, now play it like Wes, with your thumb LOL

  • Thanks! This a great lesson of a favorite tune. I have the same guitar!!!

  • I am still learning how to play. This stuff keeps me up all night.

  • Love the artcore :D I got the older version of the artcore bass (AGB140), not the new shot scale one.

  • Hi there my friend,

I just want to let you know that I now have the 'Wes Montgomery' sig. series book with CD. Oh wow! fabulous. I'm going to be a busy bunny. Thanks for the recommendation. Have you ever visited the jazzbacks dot com website? The backing tracks sound magnificent. John

  • This is a great lesson for which many thanks. Does anyone know how I could get hold of a rhythm backing track to this?

  • Cheers! :)

Regarding backing tracks, Aebersold Vol 62 has a few Wes tunes with full band backing tracks. Also the Guitar Signature Licks Series books by Wolf Marshall are fantastic. The Wes Montgomery Sig. Series book has the backing track for Four on Six as well as many other great Wes tunes.

  • Great lesson. Just out of interest, does anyone know what model the guitar is? It looks like an Ibanez Artcore series - just wondering if anyone knows the specific model.

  • The guitar is an Ibanez AF105NT :)

  • Really nice playing, and a great lesson. Wes kicks butt! Thanks so much.

  • I love your videos, man. You should play more stuff like this and the Guthrie Govan vid.

  • YES. I love you man. Keep the videos coming.

  • I love this riff. I thank you i shall learn this straight away =D
