It has been claimed for years to have been a nazi einsatzgruppen execution film but after close scrutiny by the English Imperial War museum in 2005 it was confirmed as a soviet NKVD execution squad due to the round NKVD unit badge on the arm of the officer in picture. (you can see it at 0.48) and the officers running into shot in thier M43 white officers summer shirts (@1.03).

This video is often confused with another video that is definately Einsatzgruppen but much longer (22 mins running time) only it shows the trench from the opposite side and quite clearly shows a german officer in the foreground and a german soldier with his Kar98 rifle by a truck.

You can clearly see they are Germans. At 0:46 you can see the SS Sturmbannfuhrer rank tab on the left side of an observor's tunic colar as he leans in to see the execution. The rest of unforms are clearly German also. So the War Museum got it wrong.

Going to library in my first year of school I found a book on ww2 and from that point Iwas hooked on history and military history and politics. While my friends did little reading at all or just read Goosebumps I was reading about the military campaigns of ww2, the generals. One of fav books when I was 8 was a book on Guadalcanal which I found in a garage sale. I loved uniforms aswell and used to pour over photos of ww2 uniforms

The only claim i have made is that this video has been mistakenly labelled 'a nazi execution video' when experts have agreed this is in fact NKVD executions. A few holocaust sites still claim this is german but all the major museums now admit their initial findings were incorrect.
An authentic 22 minute video does exist showing the Latvian executions but this is not it.

That is true, i know of several other holocaust museums that still claim this to be german footage.
This was used in the IWM holocaust education section as well, until a sharp eyed historian noticed several anomelies which pointed towards soviet footage than german, reasons given in my earlier posts. It has since been withdrawn from the holocaust video display.
So no, USHMM are not liars, they just believe like many others, wrongly, that this footage is german.

This is an NKVD death squad execution.
It has been claimed for years to have been a nazi einsatzgruppen execution film but after close scrutiny by the English Imperial War museum in 2005 it was confirmed as a soviet NKVD execution squad due to the round NKVD unit badge on the arm of the officer in picture. (you can see it at 0.48) and the officers running into shot in thier M43 white officers summer shirts (@1.03).

Imperial war museum, London.
This video was part of thier holocaust display until one of the historians noted what he thought was NKVD uniform and soviet weaponry. Close scrutiny confirmed this.
This video is often confused with another video that is definately Einsatzgruppen but much longer (22 mins running time) only it shows the trench from the opposite side and quite clearly shows a german officer in the foreground and a german soldier with his Kar98 rifle by a truck.

@porty500 Infact there is another video here on youtube of this same footage that is far clearer. Its called 'The holocaust in Liepaja. Skedes. 1941.' Check it out. You can clearly see they are Germans. At 0:46 you can see the SS Sturmbannfuhrer rank tab on the left side of an observor's tunic colar as he leans in to see the execution. The rest of unforms are clearly German also. So the War Museum got it wrong.

@porty500 Take a look at the link I mentioned. It is very easy to see that they are Germans. So yes the Museum got wrong. It happens they are not gods and they can makes mistakes. But uniforms are in no way at all NKVD or any type of Soviet. I wear these types of uniforms all the time and I know them inside out. Just take a look at the link. IT IS VERY OBVIOUS THAT THEY ARE GERMAN. There are SS rank insignia Feldmutze, the shape, cut, pockets and buttons are German.

@porty500 Feldmutze is a type of field cap worn commonly by all branches of the Wehrmacht and the Waffen SS. I guess you never bothered to go look at the vid I told you about; because if you did you would clearly see that they are Germans. As for me I have studied ww2 since I was 5 and I currently am a reenactor who studies the war quite in depth. These are clearly Germans; the war museum has it wrong and this isn't the first time they have got it wrong and won't be the last. I am around german

Actually 'feldmutze' is a broad german term for all sidecaps dating back to 1850 and earlier so don't quote that wikipedia crap to someone who knows better. I lived in Germany for several years so my German is reasonably good.

@porty500 Yea i have been studying the war since I was five. Going to library in my first year of school I found a book on ww2 and from that point Iwas hooked on history and military history and politics. While my friends did little reading at all or just read Goosebumps I was reading about the military campaigns of ww2, the generals. One of fav books when I was 8 was a book on Guadalcanal which I found in a garage sale. I loved uniforms aswell and used to pour over photos of ww2 uniforms

@porty500 copying them and drawing them time after time. I know what German uniforms look, feel and what they are like to wear. I was probably 1 in 50,000 10 year olds who could explain the difference between the SS, Gestapo and SD. I read about the Holocaust from graphic photos and adult books. And for all this reading it gave me far better understanding of the world than my peers. I am not going to waste anymore time on this agruement; I am sure that we both have far better things to do.

@porty500 uniforms all the time. I am also around Soviet equipment and uniform quite often and those ARE NOT NKVD uniforms. They are nowhere near even looking like them. The cut, buttons, pockets, insignia, headwear are clearly German. Along with the method of execution and the fact that it has been documented as a German action bar a few experts in the war museum who say "na they are NKVD." Pull you head out of your ass and have a look at the other video.

@porty500 Many of the soldiers in this video are wearing SD type uniforms. The guys with the armbands including the guy at 0:48 which you are pointing out were Latvian Police assisting the Germans with the executions as documented. Many of the people in these executions were even identified by modern historians from Nazi records.So either you are A: A Nazi lover trying to hand blame for this off to the NKVD. B: A stubboern moron who cant observe fact or C: You know bugger all about the war.

The only claim i have made is that this video has been mistakenly labelled 'a nazi execution video' when experts have agreed this is in fact NKVD executions. A few holocaust sites still claim this is german but all the major museums now admit their initial findings were incorrect.
An authentic 22 minute video does exist showing the Latvian executions but this is not it.

My comment concerned this particular film and the fact that it is commonly mistaken for other footage (read my earlier comments) showing true footage of events. This footage was found by the IWM to be of Russian origin, NOT German. Sources given above, reasons outlined above.
