  • whats your gas millage?

  • how does it shift at suck high rpms?! is it stanard or automatic?

  • @xjcm278x automatic, look at the "P R N D" Thing. The Manual ranger is faster.

  • @xjcm278x That's how the 5-Speed Automatic is programed my Explorer is the same. It holds the power band making more use of the Engines available power.

  • @jeepluv76 It depends. Automatics waste RPMS on the upshift with shift lag, where as a manual there is no lag between shifts, clutch in and clutch out is full engagement. The 4.0 hits max hp at 5,200 rpm.

  • @MicroOrginisum This is true. However I was focusing on the automatic someone had had asked how does it shift at such high RPMs. I was telling them, that is how the transmission is programed. Plus if you research the transmission I have learned that the automatic has adaptive shift and a friction to friction shift ability it was very sophisticated for it's time. Ford was the first American automaker that offered a 5-Speed automatic in their line-up.

  • @jeepluv76 Yes. The ranger was one of the first modernized trucks of the 21st century.

  • I checked this about 10 times and from the time the tires squal to 60 is 7.8 seconds.

  • what have you done to it? i need to know

  • wow, I'm impressed, do you have intake/exhaust or any other mods?

  • @eldoradoman22 bone stock

  • is this the over head valve version?

  • @lolygagin34000 I think Ford ditched the OHV in rangers a while back, I had a 4.0 OHV in my 96 ranger, plenty of low end torque, loved that truck!

  • my 2000 is way slower lol!!!!!!!

  • @tacoma54 I don't know what he has in his 2002 but his truck is not FX4. They had STX back then. I drive a 2010 FX4 and it has the optional 4.10 gears.

  • You have a superchip in that thing? It seems like engine wear would definitely be accelerated running at 5000 rpm constantly, plus your torque starts dropping off after 3500 rpm anyway.

  • @xShooter7 not necessarily, the 4.0 is quite capable, ive goin that high before.

  • my truck is a worn out 4 liter just a single cam engine not sohc :( and it gets like 9

  • @fifteenYear sohc stands for single overhead cam

  • @MicroOrginisum ok please dont try nd correct me on this. sohc means 2 cams one on each head(single over head cams) and mine is just a single low cam engine with push rods and rocker arms. huge difference

  • Comment removed

  • @MicroOrginisum why did u comment and then delete it? got corrected by someone smarter? dohc not 4 cams on each head dual mean 2... 2 on each head 4 cams total. think about it and get educated before you engage yourself into an argument

  • @fifteenYear because i mistakenly said something wrong, then deleted it, chill bro.

  • @MicroOrginisum just sayin some people know things that you don't research things and learn about them. thats what the internet for

  • What? 7 sec? I drive a 2010 Ranger 4x4 with 4l. My summer car is a Mustang GT. If my truck does 7 sec, the Mustang must do 3. Never. Those trucks are slow and were never meant for speed.

  • I used to have a 3.0 that did 0-60 in 13 seconds, now i have a 4.3 jimmy that i havent tested yet but is fuckin quick, and im in the market for a 4.0 4x4 now

  • I have a 2003 Ford ranger Fx4 4x4. ive run mine in 7 flat. and hit 130 on the interstate... it was capable of higher speeds i was only at around 3500 rpm and still climbing. chevys dont have a chance

  • @gbpackrfan1990 I had many Rangers. I have a 2010 5 speed, 4x4, 4L. And you make 130? MPH? And climbing? Ranger's speed cut off at 172km/hr. I have a Mustang GT which barely make it to 140. 7 sec? Sure, in your dreams.

  • @guyd37 i dont believe 7 flat, but the fx4s do have upgraded trasn, ive gone past the max but there was a closing ahead so i slowed down.

  • @MicroOrginisum Mine is a 2010 FX4. It's ok for a truck but no better than 8 sec.

  • @guyd37 they havent had the fx4 package for the ranger since around 2006-2008

  • @MicroOrginisum I know. Back in those years, that package was called STX. I had a STX straight cab, short bed 4x4. It was faster than the new heavier extended cabs FX4. I drive a 2010 FX4 and it's not as quick as the older ones...

  • i got a 1999 ford ranger 3.0 i love it

  • And two if u want urs to go faster get the 5speed manual.

  • @drudy Dude they in fact dont have goveners on them. Ive seen a ranger do around 98 one time so u better rethink what u said.

  • sa-low

  • I have a 2002 ranger edge 4.0L 2WD, whenever i try to strech it out it always maxs out at 90 mph, i was wondering, do all rangers do that? and can i do something to make it go faster then 90?

  • 2002 Ford Rangers are electronically governed around 92 mph. To get rid of it you would need to find someone who can remove that governor with a computer but that's beyond the abilities of most do-it-yourselfers. Not to mention dangerous and not very bright given the Ranger's roll over rating. I've got a 2002 Ranger FX4 by the way.

  • @Drudy90 oh ok, well thats good to know, thank you

  • @Drudy90 you can apparently buy a performance chip for it aswell, which removes the top speed limiter. Not sure if it does much else. I do know with the newer rangers like mine, and probably all newer cars the computer adjusts to driving styles so if you speed all the time the computer adjusts timing and fuel to performance, and visa versa if you consistantly drive to save fuel. The chip probably makes to the computer stay in its highest performance mapping all the time.

  • @WAstallion its seems all newer rangers do it, i know the older ones dont. And maybe not the 4 bangers because the top speed probably isnt much over 90 lol. The only reason for the 90 governer is due to the max speed rating of the tires from factory. The truck is totally capable of im sure well over 90.

  • i have a 01 ford ranger xlt 4x4 4.0SOHC with 31' kumhoroad ventur mt's and my buddy has a 98 jeepgrandcherokee 5.2L with intake and throttle body spacer oh and he has same tires as me but smaller and its a really good race i have pulled bout truck lenght or two acouple times.... and in the mud i have gone in mud wholes that he cant lol =) RANGERS RULE

  • that computer controlled tranny is wierd, but i guess thats what gives it this kind of great acceleration, since it holds the rpms all the way up there....ive gotten my tach completely off the rpm scale once by flooring it haha

  • are all fx4 rangers auto?

  • certain FX4 trim levels offer manual

  • cool, thanks

  • that was more like 8 secs sir and my 4.3 will show u something

  • bring it tool.... I have a Gtec pro... 7.6 seconds now even with 33's look at my other vids. ill destroy your 4.3 chevy piece of shit

  • calm down i ws just messing with you get your panties out of a bunch

  • damn skippy haha

  • 4.3 piece of shit? I want what your smokin

  • actually, my bro-in-law just traded his chevy 4.3 s-10 in for a 5.2 Dakota. That's besides the point though. He raced a 4.0 Ranger, he said he barely beat it, and that he thinks it's because it's an auto. Now We've both come to the conclusion that if he raced a newer 4.0 with a 5 speed manual he would have lost. :P

  • fair enough

  • the 4.3 can be shit, or it can be good. i guess it depends, i had a 5spd s-10 with a 4.3 and it was quick, and still ran like new for 198,000 original miles....but my dad had a gmc sonoma with the muilt-port 4.3 and it blew up twice on him before 200,000. the second time it was an entirly different rebuilt engine too and it only lasted about a yr and 1/2 before it started pouring out blue smoke like the old one. its was maintained too, so it depends what 4.3 you get lol.

  • Yeah, I've had only the best experiences with them, so I guess it's all in what you've seen. However, I've known 3 or 4 people who have rangers or explorers with the ohv and sohc 4.0 that have been nothing but trash from day one. Who knows?!

  • exactly, amoungst a huge array of other variables, even if its the same engine, theres also different things that came into play...one ive heard of it the composition of the metal the engine made from...some are made with a stronger setup then others even if its the same motor, coming from two different plants. this was a issue with the ticking ford 2.9 v6, and how some camshafts worn out faster then others when they started getting that notorious valve tap.

  • Gotcha

  • @tacoma54 lol blazers suck. my '99 jeep grand cherokee makes 0-60 in 7.5 seconds with the 4.0 liter inline six

  • @tacoma54 -True that. SOHC rocks! = impala SS dakota R/T quick. been there, done that. 01 flame red edge 4.0 SOHC.

  • @tacoma54 i assumed you meant 4.0L but damn ill have to check out your other vids

  • @262Blazer and tacoma lol chevy vs ford anyone?

  • @262Blazer sorry, just look around a bit no need to mke a fuss of it, but the 4.0 make out more horsepower and torque than the 4.3......

  • yea a K&N filter only adds around 5hp. wont give you any extra "boost" or pull. just helps it breathe a little better. if you look it up fords factory air intakes are about as good as you can get them.

  • 8.03s

  • ya i have 01 ranger xlt 4x4 with 4.0 sohc and i was runnin 7-8 secs to i put just drop in K&N and made it like 7 seconds flat... and felt little more horse in 4x4 in the mud.. ;)

  • I got 8 seconds. Still quick though

  • my dad had a 1995 f-150 4x4 with 31x10.50 tires and it was scary. tha thing would outrun mustangs and camaros left and right.

    it had a modified 351.

  • An intake and exhaust would help you pull ALOT harder. I have an 01 With cold air intake throttle body and cat back exhaust and trust me modding these trucks is well worth it

  • a CAI adds 3 to 5hp...it gives you better throttle response that's about it. Won't help you pull harder. It's just a filter, not a turbo

  • your dumb. look on k & n they fuckin dyno it dipshit

  • got a 32 valve v-8 01 cobra motor sitting in my garage.... dare me?

  • do it, u wont, really do it, it would be soooooo nasty, nasty as in, friggin awsome.

  • my 86 ranger ext cab 4.0 will out run yours, but mine is 30 over xD

  • damn my f150 needs gears like that thing...my 2nd gear is as big as your 3rd

  • royal purple fluids help a lot too.

  • the gas is nearly empty too. there's about 15 gallons worth of weight saved

  • Thats about 120 lbs. shaved off

  • 01-up and SOHC, old ones are ohv

  • hey just wondering, were your tires spinning thru the vid, your tach stays avove 4 at every shift which isnt normal, and since there is no sound, i figure someones gotta ask. i know the 4.0s are powerful at 210hp. also, did you do the run in 2wd or 4? thanks

  • no 2001-up 4.0L that have 5-speed autos have a close ratio second gear to help acceleration,

  • ok, i know the older 4.0's had a lower redline too, i didnt think about that when i put the comment on, the newer ones are overhead cam engines so they rev higher.

  • that was pretty damn good the one i was drivin around couldnt seem to breAK 8 seconds and it was a 2004

  • Yes, in 2002 they came with a 4.10 Torsen Limited Slip rear end.

  • 02-04 my o4 level 2 had the zexel torsen t-2 in it

  • dont theth fx4 only come with the 4.10

  • LOSDFSDOFSJDFUHWEUFWE

  • is that stock?because i got a 01
