I would like to correct something : this amatory footage was available on sunday 1st may 1994 on the morning and was released by many TV. I am even asking myself if I haven't seen it Saturday in the evening, but for sure on Sunday morning. So, this is not an unseen footage.

What really got to me was right before this footage when Ratzenberger was saying to his mechanic how he was throwing with the car and stuff and then moments later this happened...

Even though I was only 2 years old at the time this happened it still really got to me when I saw the senna documentary.

That sounded bad, not normal for a race crash! Just as Senna's crash didn't look good when I saw it live, the energy of the crash stayed in the car and didn't spin & break apart. Ratzenberger's crash sounds as bad as it looked. I still hold F1 rule change responsible for both crashes, way to many major rule changes that year! RIP Roland & Aryton!!!

@thenicedudejay Well, in fact almost all the tracks had concrete walls back in 1994, it was a terrible tragedy, but it could have happened everywhere, I mean just think about the circuit of Montreal where Kubica crashed, but also the last curve at Interlagos, Hockheneim in the fastest part. The real problem were the cars, in fact there was no safety, the cockpit were open until the shoulders, no suspension retaining system, no HANS device etc..

He did turn his steering wheel. Problem was that his front wing had failed and dropped beneath his car. This lifted his front tyres and after that it doesn't matter what you do with your steering wheel.

The seat belts and G-Forces have been so high you could not move outside the car without being flown backwards. So that invalidates your whole argument.

@SaintBEEP christ sake, Formulating #1 cars have about 4,030 braking horses in the engine. this power combined with fiddle brakes which work independently on the rear hubs allow the drive to brake either left or right, this is like a steering wheel but instead it is two levers. he could have held the oppo lock with his knee and worked the two fiddle brake levers to allow his to slide past the wall easily. by heeling and toeing the clutch and brake he could have ended up surviving this crash.

The clutch is a button on the steering wheel which also happens to allows a Formula 1 car to turn.
