I like it! My only suggestion is adding some imodium AD or some other type of anti diarrhea medication. It's not something that anyone wants to deal with in a survival scenario.
good video and great kit, i am going to get that snake bit kit for sure, living in texas and everything. i have almost everything u have i might suggest some instant cold compacts they r a little big but i think they r a good idea.
Waht I've got in mine is: Ace wraps, band aids, gauze (lots of it), clamp, scissors, safety pins, alcohol swabs, set of sam splints (var sizes), opsite film, non-stick would dressings, Tegaderm dressings, sharp tweezers, 'popsicle sticks', iodine solution, 10 cc syringes, 23 gauge needles, sodium chloride solution, medical tape, nitrile gloves, thermometer, tick remover, small bottle of BurnGel, prescription meds (for gf), advil, loperamide, antacid, glucose drops, sting relief. More is to come.
Great Kit! I'm not being negative but the "tourniquet" that you have is used to stop venous return to your heart. It doesnt stop arterial blood flow (The one that will kill you). You may want to look into a CAT tourniquet or a israeli trauma dressing. Tourniquets are a last resort and after you put it on I wouldnt take it off after about 5 mins of being on, because you might die from "THE SMILING DEATH!!!" AKA crush syndrome. Sorry such a long message but you know how Youtube is lol
Do not use alcohol on wounds, it causes tissue damage. Use providone iodine 1%. This is the stuff you see poured on trauma patients in a ER. Is that a snake bite kit, a big no-no. Do not suck the poison out. Do not cut into a snake bite, snake fangs are curved, so you will miss the spot of envenomation. Do not use a constriction band leaving the poison in one spot will cause massive tissue damage. Just monitor the ABC's and rapid transport. Kill/keep the snake.
A first aid kit should also be a limited survival kit capable of providing immediate food, water, self-defense, communication and shelter. (dry rations, water bag, body bag)
There is no point in treating life threatening problems if you will be left without means of survival.
What if you can't get to your other stuff in an emergency? Things don't usually go well in emergencies.
Triangular bandages at least 2 u can use them as pads for covering wounds slings or even making splints if you make a broad bandage out of them and sticks
I have the IFAC that i got issued. A Combat Life Saver "CLS" bag would be nice. But most of that stuff is for sucking chest wounds, collapsed lungs, blown off limbs ect. thats a nice kit you have there!
I know it sounds weird, but tampons are very absorbent and are very useful in a first aid kit when cleaning the wound as they are also sterile. Also, RUBBER GLOVES!! Not for your sake but so the wound you are treating doesnt get infected. the tips can also be used to waterproof wounds
As one poster mentioned, and I'm repeating it for emphasis, the "cut and suck" method of snake bite treatment is no longer recommended. I believe it was found to do more harm than good, and is not really effective. So take the snake bite suction kit out, and replace it with a constriction band and a pre-paid cell phone with a new, charged lithium battery. If you can't transport yourself to medical help, you will need help coming to you. 911 calls are free from any cell phone, even inactivated.
@kambelzful Wrong friend. Check out the Wikipedia article on Snakebite--specifically read the articles First Aid and, Outmoded treatments.
Coghlan's still markets this snakebite kit, so let the buyer beware. Not everything currently being sold is safe, as we know from tobacco products. All one has to do is look up product recalls to find many, many examples of unsafe products that have been sold. Be safe.
@hooya1111 uhhhhh anyone can go on wikipedia and write whatever they want especially such a rarely visited page like snake bites. Other brands sell snake bite kits as well, not just coghlans:
Sawyers
Hart Medical
Mr. Extraction
and many more that i dont feel like typing right now
People do not recommend smoking cigarettes, so cigarettes are a completely different category than snake bite kits. However, most up to date wilderness first aid manuals say extract the venom!
Nice kit !! I too have a M-3 nice kit !! This is one of the 5 kits that I own but the M-3 is the largest of all in portable kits that I have ! Good vid thanks for posting!!
At the top of all my kits I keep a recipe card and list what's in the kit. Keep stocking folks. Your currency is going to crash in 2 yrs. (in 2012) Has nothing to do with the movie or M-calendar. It's when the govt. can't pay it's bills and they start printing shitloads of money....Hello German weimar hyper inflation. keep stocking canned and dried food. Today I stocked gas. I keep 50gal...I'm shooting for over 100. stocking smoked herring next.
I would add an EpiPen and/or benadryl... severe allergic reactions can be fatal in a matter of minutes without treatment.
Even mild allergic reactions can be life threatening ... like a bee or hornet sting to the neck that causes swelling. I think insect stings are far more likely than snake bites in most locations.
I might also add sugar for diabetics.
Thanks for posting your kit... some really great ideas in there!
This is a great medium first aid kit! Realistic items for use with minimum training.
One thing I would suggest that I didn't notice in your kit, is Maalox. It is useful for relieving many things including; poison ivy, jock rash, swamp foot, blisters/cuts/scalds, sunburn/windburn, hemmroids and it also helps to stop bleeding.
There are excellent qaulity roll-up style kits on the market. Waterproof and sectioned w/ clear plastic so you know right where your needed materials are & how much you have w/o having to dig through a bag. If it's SHTF time, you'll be short of food, water and sleep, so take your pills if they help you mush on through to your safe haven. Count on hospitals to be destroyed or ground zero for nabbing folks w/ combat trauma. .32 steel ball for that slingshot would do some damage. Great vid PackRat
sir pack rat, Why would you bring pills to get rid of headaches when the headaches telling you of a problem your bosy is having like lack of nutrition? wouldnt you rather bring vitamins instead?
Snake bite kits and extractors have been proven to be inneffective. If your bitten apply a tournaquet above the wound and get to a hospital imediately.
You may want to include some dehydration salts or just pure sodium chloride (Table Salt packet). Just in case you get dehydration which i hope will not happen.
My kit is very extensive being that my wife is a Doc. the super glue trick works very well I have used it numerous time. A good thing for bug repellent is a cheap cigar yes cheap cigar don't inhale just puff and get the smoke on you there lite weight cheap and they keep. Try to get a surgical stapler as well they don't hurt are good for larger wounds I have also used them. I have to much to list and it weights about 5-7 pounds but can treat most anything
Sounds like a great kit and sounds like you have some pretty extensive supplies for a kit in the 5 pound range. Also, you're lucky to have such a resource. Thanks for your suggestions.
@PackRat556 thank u sir so much i went camping and i needed a lot of stuff like a knife first aid kit compass thanks a lot and by the way im from australia and im 23
it's easy to use but most effective on smaller to medium sized lacerations just pull the skin together and put a line of super glue over the whole cut and let set, it won't take long to set then your good to go it will last a decent amount of time if your sweating your balls off it won't last very long but you can put a light wrap over it to help ohh and it will sting like hell but fades quickly kinda like alcohol quick and simple try testing it out on some if you get cut for testing
yeah try to get the wound as clean as possible iodine or anything similar will do fine remember the glue is a temporary fix till you get some were you can really get a good wrap of suture on it.
Great Kit. If you want to lighten the kit you can put the alchol and peroxide into the 3oz containers sold at most chain stores for like 50cents. I also cut down on small band-aids and got 2 small tubes of super glue for small cuts. Just sucks that liquids weigh a pack down but things like bug repellant are a live saver and make things easier. My first aid kit has condoms in case I run into a female patriot LOL! Good vid!
Awesome kit! I keep lots of blood stoppers in mine.. and a couple of the cold packs... im always afraid im going to chop of my finger..... i figure the cold packs will help keep it fresh till i can get medical attention....
