  • I wonder why humans like square rooms, rectangular doors and windows?

The American Indian kivas are round because their mythology says that at the end of each 'world' the survivors crept into the new one through a hole in the ground. However, all the other non-ritual rooms are square/rectangular.

Even the round desert 'towers' seem to have not been for living, but for special purposes.

to me it is odd that this should be a world-wide phenomena of building styles.

  • Goodness Touch how old are these ruins ,beautifull

  • @MikalskiEdward Greetings, thanks for the visit. Most of the ruins I showed here date back to between 1500-800 years ago, so nowhere near as old as the burial chambers you recently showed in Denmark. But still old enough to make ya sit down and appreciate life. Thanks again! :)

  • Very, very cool I just have to say.

And there's guys like desertphile who also recognize the beauty, but keep it in its own soundtrack.

    'sall good imo

  • @tehmaninblack Thanks man, the desert really intrigues me...almost to the point of intoxication. :-) Though, I must say that I used to subscribe to desertphile...the paranoia and anger just got to be too much. Oh well, I'm sure I'm too much for some others as well.

  • Where is the pit with the nice acousticts at 2:10. I will have a concert there this May.

  • @briankofke The 'pit' is a kiva from Chaco Canyon in New Mexico, and I must admit that it would probably sound pretty cool down there...but you can only walk around them, can't go down into them. Maybe you can get a permit or something for art/music, not sure. Post up if you ever do!

  • @touchnova Thanks. I live in Colorado and that is just a hop-skip-and jump for me. I will try to play there this May; free concert deal; acoustics only. No amps. I am sure I can get it together. I wil get on it, and send you an invite when it all comes together.

  • @briankofke That would be awesome, I'd love to be a part of it man, keep me posted for sure!

  • Amazing Video!I love the spiritual feel I get when I visit ancient sites like these.

  • @rockcreek811 Glad you enjoyed man, am hoping to have more from an upcoming adventure planned for this Spring.

  • The first 2:00 minutes just blow me away, the skill and know how of these beautiful people just amaze me.I someday will have to make this journey.

  • @IamMohawk What you don't hear in the first 2 minutes of this video is me walking around mumbling to myself in amazement... :-) I had just entered the ruins and didn't know what to expect, so when I saw such craftsmanship, the scale, metates laying around, man, what a dream. Glad you enjoyed Jim, please let me know if you're doing research on the southwest and are curious about locations, always glad to help. Peace!

  • Bring it on, it was not long at all. just made me see what i am missing out on in life..

  • @Specksworld We're all livin' the dream man, everyone is missing out to each other... :-)

  • @touchnova

    HUH ?

  • @Specksworld You said, "...just made me see what i am missing out on in life.."

So I said, "We're all livin' the dream man, everyone is missing out to each other..."

Meaning we're all living each others' fantasies. I'll trade my snowpack for your marble-filled sand bunkers! :-)

  • @touchnova

No you keep your snow, we had enough already. Wish me luck going out with Tikirving tomorrow at the ranch hope he is as fun as you were... Living the dream

  • @Specksworld We're all livin' the dream man, everyone is missing out to each other... :-)

  • Wow, did you buy this vidra in the gift shop? I think I seen speck in there. Damn good job my friend, ya know you could make money doing this. I would ask for a copy but I think you just gave everyone a copy...

Ma here, Simply beautiful!!!! Thanks for sharing it....

  • @Specksworld Awesome, made my day to see you'd enjoyed the vid. I was afraid I'd turn off m'favorite folks by posting such a long one, but I promise to make fewer of them. :-) Actually, just got some new video software, should make things quite a bit easier, so watch out! lol Guess I'll have to go on vacation again to get new footage though, I'm a world under snow and itchin' for the sand. Thinkin' about making a straight run in Feb...let's talk.

  • Imagine whats under the floor at comb ridge :) that is marvelous, is alot of this chaco? Dude you had the trip of a lifetime! Dude you are gonna have to give me a list on all places you visited!

  • @smellanalan You could tell where lots of digs had taken place at Comb Ridge, I'm sure most of them back in the early 1900s, teens through the 30s probably. There was TONS of 'modern' graffiti in the big fishmouth up top, but some back into the late 1800s as well. Only about the first 5 and a half minutes are Chaco, the rest are Hovenweep, Comb Ridge, Canyonlands NP, Valley of Fire SP...and about a million little stops in between. :-) If you're gonna make a trip, let me know!

  • Awe inspiring...I got lost for a second, pretty sure I was there with you for a minute!!!

EPIC in every sense of the word!!What a trip that must have been. Thanks for sharing your adventures with us!!!

    Rick.

  • @MrRickjitsu Glad to have you alongside m'friend! lol Yeah, I was lost for weeks, just stumbling around these locations, lost and found all at the same time you could say. I encourage you to hit up the desert southwest if you ever get the chance...if you appreciate the vid, you won't believe the country, it's somethin' else. Thanks for watchin' man, be well!

  • @touchnova Thanks nova ,you too!!

  • BRAVOOOO ... You got a standing OVATION ... Loved getting to see all those beautiful places thanks so much

  • @2arrowheadlovers Thank you, it's a treat to share with folks. The land, the history, it's all a bit beyond explaining...I try and let the vids to that part for me. :-) Hope you 2 are doin' good, dig on!

  • Thanks for getting us up close on the ruins. Another one to add to my favorites list

  • @greatbasinman Awesome, glad you enjoyed GBM. You ever get footage of pictographs and such in your area? You're not so far off the main vein, and in many sense, everywhere is the main vein. lol Get out of those fields amigo, climb somethin'! hahah!

  • Man ...we really must have been stepping in each others footprints at some of these places. EXCELLENT FOOTAGE ,GREAT VIDEO ! I loved the glyphs carved on the floor and the rocks with the multiple grinding areas ,really cool stuff .

    Thanks for sharing ,

    Gregg

  • @rokworkz I was tellin' ya man, we were trading footprints there at several locations, very cool. Watched your ancient art video, killer. If you ever head over to the Four Corners neck of Utah, give me a shout and I'll put you onto that set of ruins (has the atlatl glyphs on the floor). Looking forward to your future adventures, they're like medicine for a snow-locked lad up nordski...lol. Greetings from MT!

  • That was amazing Touchy. My wife and I just loved it. At 11:39 It looks like a native face in the upper right corner. Thanks for sharing your journey with all of us. Take care Bro. - Rich

  • @brendel69 Family time with Rich and Co., love it! lol Glad you folks enjoyed, I sure enjoyed drivin' and hiking all over tarnation in pursuit. I see that native face you mentioned, man, it doesn't look happy to me, crikey! Well, I went in respect, didn't disturb, left some tobacco...I think I'm good. :-)

  • What an amazing journey! I bet you could feel the people of the past all around you there, I know just watching your beautiful work on filming I could feel them. Thank you for sharring your visit. Peace Jim

  • @IamMohawk Amazing journey indeed, one of both timing and turning, being and dreaming. Very strong feelings remain in these places, one imagines the laughter and cries and sounds of life filling them, smoke, stone, leather and bone. You gotta get out the for a visit Jim, it's beyond.

  • Wow! Superb and sublime, bro! You must have done a heck of a lot of homework, before you embarked on this epic road trip! As far as I'm concerned, this is more than good enough stuff, to be a 1/2 hr. show on Discovery or NATGEO! Thanks so much for taking the time to bring all that to us!

Your friend in the Mo. woods,

    Richard T.

  • @creekdalton Doing a NatGeo piece has been a dream of mine for a long time...talk about pinnacle! :-) Makes me happy to know my YT buddies are enjoying these vids, man, there's adventure at every turn and just waiting to be had. If a fellar didn't have bills, I suppose he'd just up'n get lost...perfectly lost. lol Take care!

  • Now thats a GOOD VIDEO!!!

If only rocks could tell you their memories... Can you just imagine what they would say... The clay on the rock is crazy.

    Nice work my friend!

  • @COBladesmith80 Glad you enjoyed Blade, was thinkin' of you when workin' on the Chaco bit. Such a cool place, wish you could have joined me. Maybe one of these years we can get Ma & Pa to skin over from CA, meet up for a walk with the Ancients. Ahoyo amigo!

  • thank you for the AWSOME video, those stills of chaco canyon in the morning light is off the hook, especially the one with the moon, I would love to have that picture in my livingroom! great job

  • @volcanicglass11 Thanks for your kind comment, much appreciated. I've made many trips to the desert for photography alone, now I just go to be there...photos and video are about 7th and 8th on my list. :-) Glad my images are still ringing true, and thanks for your recent subscription. Hope to see you posting videos soon.

  • Marvelous !

  • @freejutube Thanks for watchin' man, much appreciated. Take care!

  • 18:01 - I once saw very similar engravings in Namibia!!!

  • @steintanz I was unaware of others outside the US, but we have several Newspaper Rock-type locations in the desert southwest. Would love to see video/pictures of your Namibia adventure, do you have any posted?

  • @touchnova ... unfortunately not. Didn't even have a digi-cam then. But you could search for "Petroglyphs at Twyfelfontein". That's the place in Namibia I went to.

     Greetings, Tim

  • @steintanz Just checked them out, they're awesome. Amazing how the themes, style, techniques, etc. are identical except for the animal types. Very cool, thanks for sharing that info m'friend.

  • @touchnova I was impressed by just the same - amazing likeness on different continents!

  • Ah, this looks like it'll make it to my "wanna go there" list.

Are those sites in general reachable by normal car or even by public transport?

    Thanks a lot, Tim

  • @steintanz Yes, most of these locations are accessible by vehicle, but some require 4WD and/or more clearance than the standard car. My Subaru Forester does quite well, considering it's no Jeep. lol If you're going to visit the desert backcountry, I recommend renting a Jeep, makes things simple. If you have any questions on locations, maps, terrain, etc., please feel free to inquire. Ahoy!

  • Many thanks for showing, my friend, phenomenal. I love old castles, fortresses ruins. Thanks for this beautiful walk back in time. All the best and happy weekend Sepp

  • @Waldhandwerk We do not have these types of ruins where I live, so it is an honor to explore them when I travel. The deserts of North America hold many treasures, someday maybe you will come to visit! :-) Best to you!
