I have a 2001 dodge dakota 4.7, im choosing between a supercharger, and nitrous. I would just like to know who built the motor in your truck if you dont mind me asking
@Mellowbuzz1974 not all jeeps did only the jeeps that was 4x4 thats what i have heard but idk the differnce id go with a cam swap in my 4.7 if i coulf find some that would actually make a difference
@fordboy111591 I've researched it quite a bit. you can expect some pretty moderate gains with the HO cams (assuming you are going to do TB, intake, and a programmer at the same time). I would personally go up a notch and get the 212's though. If you're gonna do it...do it right the first time lol
@Mellowbuzz1974 ive got a so far all cats chppd off and 3'' exhaustinto a flowmaster super44 and those expensive ass 4.11 gears those helps alot and i had a superchips power pack but i couldnt tell a differnce with it and i got a dual k&n cai gettn ita air from behind the front bumped i want to do a turbo or sc on it but i dont want to have to build up the motor just yet i want to get a nother motor and build it so my daily driver aint tore apart all over my front yard lol
I don't know if you already have one but, I stuck a powertrax no-slip locker in my 04 dakota 4.7L since it was open diff. Took me an hour to do and it works great. can't say you wont still light the tires up though.
the 5.2 versus the 4.7 is highly discussed on the dakota forum. but i drive a 5.2 and to be honest dont feel its so hot of a motor. i love it cause its fast and reliable but more power i believe will come from the 4.7 whats your view>>>
you will getmore power out of a 318 then a 286ci its only becuse you can get more bolt on and its cheaper to maintain an engine that is based on old tech then a sohc motor. one broken timing chain and both heads are shrapnel. but dont get me wrong i love the MPG of the 4.7 and the quick throttal responce from it. stock to stock the 4.7 stomped my 5.9 lol. but i fixed that problem.
Have I ran into any problems? Yes.. Fried the pistons a couple of times and sent a rod through the block. I'd definitely recommend if you plan on putting more than 7psi on the 4.7, building the motor to stand up to the abuse. I did put about 25000 trouble free miles on at 10psi.
I have a stock NV3500HD in the truck with fresh gears and input shaft. There's a new Centerforce dual-friction clutch in it too. It will be the weak link over time.
Hey man im thinkin about gettin a custom procharger setup for my 2000 4.7 have you ran into any problems with having a blower in general besides the tickets. sweet truck by the way.
Before you go buying useless parts...DON'T buy ANY throttle body spacer, they are totally useless for your engine. Also, DON'T purchase the jet chip, alot of people that have purchased it have found that the stock computer "learns" to bypass the programming and make it useless-however, alot of folks continue to be pleased with superchips. Headers are a good idea, but I wouldn't wrap them. I had a set rust through in less than a year after I had wrapped them.
Instead of buying a 50MM TB, you can easily modify yours to make it flow much better. Instrucions may be found online. If you buy a high quality drop-in replacement air filter (K&N, ARE, etc), you will get comparable results to the CAI for much less dough. Another, very easy and cheap mod is to purchase rocker arms from a Dodge Viper (92-02) and install them in your heads. They can be had for as little as $80 for 16. If you do this, use the pivots from YOUR engine, not the viper pivots.
I have a 99 Dakota SLT with the 5.2 318 i put a straight pipe and have a K&N performance filter on it but its still only putting out about 250 HP does anyone have a logical way i could get 300 HP affordably
1. The truck was on 275-60-15 BFG drag radials in the video... They are now 315's with CalTracs.. Slight spin then hook
2. The mpgs actually went up with the blower and exhaust mods only. This truck with those mods got 23mpg on the way to the track.
3. Is it worth it? Uh.. yeah :)
4. The truck has forged pistons, KRC224 cams, ported heads, Vortech FMU, KRC tuned PCM, HO Intake, Split Sec ARC1 for the MAP, forged connecting rods, etc... It doesn't get 23mpg anymore :)
im definently putin a charger on my 4.7L mabey i can squez 400horse out of it along with other mods it would be the ownley one around where i live hell yea
Hey dumbfuck, you only have SOHC. No 4.7 was ever made with DOHC. It only has 1 cam per bank of the engine. It has 2 have 2 cams per bank to be a DOHC
I have an 01 with a Kenne Bell, I'm glad to see another blown 4.7 out there. Mine has traction bars and 4.10 gears and I never have any traction problems by the way.

Get a full performance exhaust system with wrapped headers. The more air the engine can suck in the more it can push out.
amdrewm 4 years ago
headers, intake manifold, CAI, stright pipe exhaust, 50MM TB, TB Spacer, under drive pullies and a jet chip easy over 300
BlownDakota 3 years ago
TB spacers are useless on a 4.7
