No pedals at all. Just a brand new set of Rotosound Swingbass put on at the beginning of the day. The WarwicK Dolphin and Trace only.
And how would I know that? Its my bass and I strung it up for Kurt, cos not only am I his dad, I seem to be his bass tech as well, the lazy little shite! Not really, gotta luv im. He don't even know I sneak his JD Thumb out for gigs sometimes.
BTW Thats all really good and all, but when the hell are you gonna play that super fast goofyness in a REAL situation. I understand that you rep TE, but c'mon. Unless you are playing on the Billy Sheehan album or some junk, all that is totally impractical, but impressive nonetheless. I like to play with a pick and the root. Whatever, anyone but Kurt wouldnt understand. Bass nerds. Hep.
I liked the 'Stone Cold Bush" you made it even better. and the classic thump V. Wooten stuff. sounds great. i am for sure going to get one of those amps.
Trace elliot nowadays are amazing, they have come a very very long way and i would say are now top top quality amps and i choose to use them over others.
Yes that is a warwick dolphin neck through! Quality bass!
@KurtSandford: hope you don't find this personal, but did you teach yourself to play like this or do you have an awesome instructor......i think you are an extraordinary talent!
how have you got the eq set to get this kind of tone? i been looking for a good slap tone but have not found the perfect one. i wanna get one of those trace elliots, they sound great.
The "passive" input has packed in but the amp just keeps doing the business all the same. A lot of folk think of Trace and always think "slap" but they can do a lot more!
And yes trace elliot is fantastic i recommend you get one, any recent amp or combo will blow you away. 12 band is quite pricey but they are top of the line and have very expensive parts, 7 band is still good though obviously.
It was my first time on a big scale like this yes, played for family, friends, that was it! I was shitting myself, i didn't know if people would like it. Turned out they did.
Hi there, I was with Kurt on the day. He was busy concentrating on performing, so I can tell you what rig he played through:
AH1000 12 band Amp
1 x 18 Cab
2 x 15 Cab
and TWO
2 x 10s plus Horn
We met the designer of Trace Elliot equipment, a guy named Chris. At the exhibition you were allowed to turn up the volume in the last 10 minutes of each hour, so Chris ramped the system right up and said: "Go on Kurt, give it some!"
You are incredibly good at slap bass... damn. I have been playing for 7 years and you have surpassed my playing by far. I need some tips on some things you do if you are willing to help?
The amount of people asking for tutorials i'm going to do some as soon as i find a way to talk over my recordings, i use direct sound you see. So i will need to dub over maybe. I dunno. Or seeing as its only a tutorial i may just record it into a webcam through air.
dude i hope trace elliot let u talk some gear home wit u that would be sick if there were like we got like a million of these half stacks take this one we dont have room in the truck or something like that lol awsome bass playin man
man great 5/5 i try to do it but i cant do that fast slaping(or poping i cant see beacuse ur so fast xDDDD) on muted string i hope you know what i mean
thats just plain ill. congrats, you seem to be making an awesome name for yourself. won't be long before some nasty funk band picks you up to go on tour. cheers bud!
man.. i've been watching your videos since a long time a go... and it's great to see that you're getting much better.. even more... you will be soo big ...you're on yor way
That's a cool vid, a good compilation of some of the videos you've posted here thus far. All of it sounded really nice, I especially like that you added that Stone Cold Bush solo, since I came back the other day to listen to it and it wasn't there. Pressure must've been pretty high :P. How was the rest of the show?
Christ did i really used to look like this? HA.

I've seen you at ExCel '08 and '09 and I've got to say, dude, you blew my mind.
I have a Warwick bass (nowhere near as nice as yours though) and I'm saving for a Trace Elliot but even then I won't sound as amzing as you.
Keep slapping that thing. It's people like you who inspire people like me.

Hey! Did we speak this year?
And yes trace elliot is fantastic i recommend you get one, any recent amp or combo will blow you away. 12 band is quite pricey but they are top of the line and have very expensive parts, 7 band is still good though obviously.
KurtSandford 2 years ago
No unfortunately, maybe next year if you're there.
I'll probably only be able to get a 7 band but im hoping to get the better 715x version.
Just out of interest, how old are you?
Btw, I checked out Tokyo Jo and i loved it, man.
It reminded me a lot of Rage Against The Machine and the tone you've got it just so good.
I hope to hear more of your work.. Peace.

Btw loove your remake of the stone cold bush solo :P
hellsSG 3 years ago
No no, no free amps lol :)
A good friend of mine showed some Peavey crew a youtube video and i got a call. :D:D Quite exciting.
KurtSandford 3 years ago
Ok, cool. But you got a call from Peavey? Not trace?
hellsSG 3 years ago
Btw. You got a trace yourself? What kind? Seems like many slap players use trace, will it be good for rock too? :) Thinking about buying one :P
hellsSG 3 years ago
yeah from peavey, and yes trace is great for slapbass, and just about anything else to be honest. I very much doubt you could be dissapointed.
KurtSandford 3 years ago
Ok thanks, too bad they're so expensive. Soo big difference between 7band and 12 band.

One more question:
How the hell did you land a spot playing at the london music show??
MCLOVIN50 3 years ago
VERY Impressive!!
I love your tone, a little more treble added to that, and you would have one funky tone!!
Oh, and what are those full stacks that are behind you??
They look very exquisite o_O
MCLOVIN50 3 years ago
The sound live was perfect, it was edited to filter out background noise and lost some quality.
My good friend knows peavey owners, he showed them my youtube and they called me! LOL
KurtSandford 3 years ago
Wow!!
I bet it payed off to be his friend!!
Was this your first time playing "live"??

I looked into the Trace Elliot models, they look, and sound excellent!
They are a bit pricey though, but they sound absolutely amazing!
It must of been a pleasure meeting the designer!
MCLOVIN50 3 years ago
He was a real nice guy, they now have a range of "trace acoustic" for acoustic guitar. Also a great sound!
KurtSandford 3 years ago
What's that bass laying on the bass stacks??
I don't think trace elliot makes basses.
MCLOVIN50 3 years ago
Trace Elliot were bought by Peavey, who have brought them back into the world of bass amplification. And those basses you can see are Peavey basses.
oldwah 3 years ago
