  • Christ did i really used to look like this? HA.

  • @KurtSandford yea ur all grown up manly and buff now.

  • i bet guitarists hate being in a band with you lol, always showing them up ;-)

  • like...

  • that makes me alive :D and motivated to play bass every single day

  • Level 42 and Larry Graham in the beginning?

  • @krnktom

Yeah man, not exactly the lines they play but near enough : )

  • @DarkEternal250

What exactly do you mean by this?

  • "clean" is an understatement man...that was darn near immaculate. Very solid playing, well done =)

  • @AndreTheGigante

thanks man, lol this is was me when i was barely 16. ive matures alot now.

  • is that running clean through the trace or are you using a pedal?

  • @BountyHunter233

    Just threw the trace

  • @BountyHunter233

No pedals at all. Just a brand new set of Rotosound Swingbass put on at the beginning of the day. The WarwicK Dolphin and Trace only.

And how would I know that? Its my bass and I strung it up for Kurt, cos not only am I his dad, I seem to be his bass tech as well, the lazy little shite! Not really, gotta luv im. He don't even know I sneak his JD Thumb out for gigs sometimes.

  • BTW Thats all really good and all, but when the hell are you gonna play that super fast goofyness in a REAL situation. I understand that you rep TE, but c'mon. Unless you are playing on the Billy Sheehan album or some junk, all that is totally impractical, but impressive nonetheless. I like to play with a pick and the root. Whatever, anyone but Kurt wouldnt understand. Bass nerds. Hep.

  • Porn bass. I have three Traces. 1) RAH 350 SMX GP 12, 2)RAH 400 SMX GP 12, and the favourite, an AH-500x GP 12. I love Trace stuff. Ho bags!

  • Wow. Great sound, smooth playing, excellent integration of some cool tunes. Two thumbs up!

  • Cooolll!!!!!!!

  • @Jonibajo : )

  • some tight double plucks there! nice job

  • @bbBassYo

    Thanks man =]

  • did I hear some stone cold bush in ther =P and tht was awsome

  • @musicmillar

haha yeah sneaked that in there

  • I liked the 'Stone Cold Bush" you made it even better. and the classic thump V. Wooten stuff. sounds great. i am for sure going to get one of those amps.

  • @cutoffs8

    There great amps man =]

  • KUrt Is that a Warwick Dolphin?

However I'm interested in trace elliot amps,in your opinion are good?

Another thing, dam u are so clean on the classical thump

  • @DarkThoot

    Hey man.

Trace elliot nowadays are amazing, they have come a very very long way and i would say are now top top quality amps and i choose to use them over others.

Yes that is a warwick dolphin neck through! Quality bass!

  • @KurtSandford: hope you don't find this personal, but did you teach yourself to play like this or do you have an awesome instructor......i think you are an extraordinary talent!

  • @Mickeyj26

My dad showed me the basics, but i learned all slap by myself.

  • what kind of warwick is that?

  • how have you got the eq set to get this kind of tone? i been looking for a good slap tone but have not found the perfect one. i wanna get one of those trace elliots, they sound great.

  • You re really good ..........

Mark King he's a Genius , the most of the young guys are just copies.........No musicality in the electric bass world , it's just how fast is today .

  • Wow!!! Fantastic :)

Your Dad just sent me to you're page..

    You're chops are incredible!!!

    Debs

  • you played version of stone cold bush right?

  • I actually played for about 5 mins but trace elliot only wanted a short clip. Wonder if the un-cut version lays anywhere....

  • STONE COLD BUSH!!!

  • He is playing his interpretation of Level 42 "Love Games"

  • I love how you say "interpretation" and don't just say i'm playing it incorrectly

  • Holy shit i hope im still this good next year. LOL.

  • holy fuck that was awesome

  • I still use my trusty old Trace GP7 - great amp!

The "passive" input has packed in but the amp just keeps doing the business all the same. A lot of folk think of Trace and always think "slap" but they can do a lot more!

  • awesome stuff man but it'd be nice to hear some original material from you

  • I've seen you at ExCel '08 and '09 and I've got to say, dude, you blew my mind.

I have a Warwick bass (nowhere near as nice as yours though) and I'm saving for a Trace Elliot but even then I won't sound as amzing as you.

Keep slapping that thing. It's people like you who inspire people like me.

  • Hey! Did we speak this year?

And yes trace elliot is fantastic i recommend you get one, any recent amp or combo will blow you away. 12 band is quite pricey but they are top of the line and have very expensive parts, 7 band is still good though obviously.

  • No unfortunately, maybe next year if you're there.

I'll probably only be able to get a 7 band but im hoping to get the better 715x version.

Just out of interest, how old are you?

Btw, I checked out Tokyo Jo and i loved it, man.

It reminded me a lot of Rage Against The Machine and the tone you've got it just so good.

I hope to hear more of your work.. Peace.

  • Yeah im there next year say hi to me, i should be better by then. =]

    I'm 17, 18 in a few weeks, been playing for 4 years.

  • Classical Thump!

  • Hi Kurt, it's Jon the video guy from LIMS. Great stuff mate :)

  • Hi! Will you be there this year too?

  • Not sure, haven't been working with the same vid co. as before but i'll certainly find out soon.. I take it you'll be there?

  • Yup =]

  • can you post a vid on how you do that double thumb/muted triplet or whatever it is you do. that shit is tight

  • VERY good mate. It pleases me to see people with real talent on the bass. You're a legend.

p.s. bit of classical thump in the middle?

  • yeah it is, i love that tune =]

  • Nice green Bass back there, it is a asignature bass of trace elliot ?!?!?! and man, you play beautiful, nice influencesss !!

    Keep going !!!!!

  • great man..very nice playing

  • Really, really good mate!

  • You just inspired me to get back into slap bass.

thank you. Actually real deep down bottom of my heart thanks.

  • :)!

  • STONE COLD BUSH!

  • You make me too jealous xD

    You're awesome (:

    xx

  • Kurt when ur laying on the 'G' string, will be good for you to try some 'trills' as a fill in!...good job dude keep it up!.best...

  • very true! I rarely do this.

  • wtf, how are you soooo fast ;)

  • beautifully played classical thump

  • Thank-you =]

  • trace elliot

some nice amps. i would love to upgrade to them

    nice playing

  • Thanks, i love trace elliot and warick basses

  • Definitely dude!

I was going to get one, but the Markbass was a better deal to me.

  • im not in to the wooten style a lot, more the mark king you did in the beginning, but you play great man.

  • I notice the power of the Wooten is strong in you...

    keep it up!

  • Ey kurt, did you get free amps for that :D?

They called u from TE and wanted you to play or how did you get to play there?

Btw loove your remake of the stone cold bush solo :P

  • No no, no free amps lol :)

A good friend of mine showed some Peavey crew a youtube video and i got a call. :D:D Quite exciting.

  • Ok, cool. But you got a call from Peavey? Not trace?

  • Btw. You got a trace yourself? What kind? Seems like many slap players use trace, will it be good for rock too? :) Thinking about buying one :P

  • yeah from peavey, and yes trace is great for slapbass, and just about anything else to be honest. I very much doubt you could be dissapointed.

  • Ok thanks, too bad they're so expensive. Soo big difference between 7band and 12 band.

  • Damn brother, tight playing.

  • Damn well played...thumbs up!!

  • How much do you practice a day? You make me wanna slap myself instead of my bass

  • One more question:

How the hell did you land a spot playing at the london music show??

  • VERY Impressive!!

I love your tone, a little more treble added to that, and you would have one funky tone!!

Oh, and what are those full stacks that are behind you??

    They look very exquisite o_O

  • The sound live was perfect, it was edited to filter out background noise and lost some quality.

My good friend knows peavey owners, he showed them my youtube and they called me! LOL

  • Wow!!

I bet it payed off to be his friend!!

Was this your first time playing "live"??

  • It was my first time on a big scale like this yes, played for family, friends, that was it! I was shitting myself, i didn't know if people would like it. Turned out they did.

  • Oh and i was playing through a monstrous rig... i don't even remember what it was but it was ridiculous lol.

  • Hi there, I was with Kurt on the day. He was busy concentrating on performing, so I can tell you what rig he played through:

    AH1000 12 band Amp

    1 x 18 Cab

    2 x 15 Cab

    and TWO

    2 x 10s plus Horn

We met the designer of Trace Elliot equipment, a guy named Chris. At the exhibition you were allowed to turn up the volume in the last 10 minutes of each hour, so Chris ramped the system right up and said: "Go on Kurt, give it some!"

    Awesome power on the day!

  • Thanks a lot!

I looked into the Trace Elliot models, they look, and sound excellent!

They are a bit pricey though, but they sound absolutely amazing!

It must of been a pleasure meeting the designer!

  • He was a real nice guy, they now have a range of "trace acoustic" for acoustic guitar. Also a great sound!

  • What's that bass laying on the bass stacks??

I don't think trace elliot makes basses.

  • Trace Elliot were bought by Peavey, who have brought them back into the world of bass amplification. And those basses you can see are Peavey basses.

  • so what do you think about trace elliot?

  • I think they're fucking incredible =D

  • Thanks man, i'll never stop playing... it's my love

  • you've just gotta love the stone cold bush solo!

  • dude, how long you been playing?

    you're a hoss

  • Just over 3 years mate

  • WHAT!!!!!

    Groovy dude!!!

  • repping the warwicks!

  • well impressed mate, wish i coulda come down to see you!

  • Me too! I met alot of people from youtube believe it or not.

  • Bloody hell...what a nice slaping you got...

Mark king is not a bad hero:-)

  • You are incredibly good at slap bass... damn. I have been playing for 7 years and you have surpassed my playing by far. I need some tips on some things you do if you are willing to help?

  • The amount of people asking for tutorials i'm going to do some as soon as i find a way to talk over my recordings, i use direct sound you see. So i will need to dub over maybe. I dunno. Or seeing as its only a tutorial i may just record it into a webcam through air.

  • dude i hope trace elliot let u talk some gear home wit u that would be sick if there were like we got like a million of these half stacks take this one we dont have room in the truck or something like that lol awsome bass playin man

  • im pretty sure kurt is endorsed by them

  • Nicley nicley Kurt: You gonna upload anymore footage from the show?

  • If peavey send it i shall =)

I think there is some of you there too, just waiting for a reply

  • Wow, that's just plain awesome. Congrats on getting to play for Trace; you definately deserve it.

  • dude you killed it !!!!!!!! nice job man

  • That's a cool vid, a good compilation of some of the videos you've posted here thus far. All of it sounded really nice, I especially like that you added that Stone Cold Bush solo, since I came back the other day to listen to it and it wasn't there. Pressure must've been pretty high :P. How was the rest of the show?

  • It all went great, people really seemed to like my style =)

Yes i was nervous to start with, soon got used to it though.

    Cheers for watching =)
