I have a problem with this also. The Council of Nicaea voted on this issue when Christianity became an official religion of Rome. Old Judaism and Christianity have a ban on images of the godly, but when god BECAME man himself in the Christian religion, people wanted to SEE him. I haven't seen this film yet (and I'm curious about it), but I have some misgivings... if Jesus was crucified "just because he was black" that may have a powerful message of identifying the death of the Savior with black people who have been lynched in the centuries since slavery... but doesn't it diminish the power of who Jesus was if instead of being killed for what he said and did, he was just some random poor sap who was killed for his ethnicity? Historically, he wasn't sub-saharan african.
