99% chance says you need a different wireless adapter most use a broadcom chipset that does not have packet injection capability. I suggest the ALFA 1Watt wireless adapter and a copy of BackTrack 4

no with a new router uses WEP. WPA2-psk is what everyone in my building. Problem with those are theyre encryption based on words so you have to get a worddictionary connected to your program like most ppl use airodump. if it doesnt kick out the pass ur just plain ol sol.

yes this is possible with cain, the only problem is that you need an airPcap - usb adapter. this is the only usb adapter who can capture packages over a network (well its the only one i know) BUT the basic airPcap cost over $175 and the most excpensive one over $600

All wireless cards can capture. But your right, you need airpcap for cain&abel with sucks balls.

i suggest just booting into backtrack3, via usb/cd and if your card is compatible with it, your good to go.

these guys did it in 13mins with 500,000 ivs.

inbacktrack 3 it takes about 4mins and 10,000 ivs, maybe even 5,000.

Gregorpm- You were using NetStumbler, right? It doesn't differentiate between WEP and WPA. It registers both as WEP. With that said, how did you know that you had found a WEP network and not a WPA?

you must encrypt to protect your files.

it's very difficult to hack some tipes of encryption, some are just imposible to decrypt.

now, wep encryption sucks, and more..all the wireless methods to protect your signal are poor.

Somebody would have to produce a homebrew hack for that to work. There is a partial one on the NDS called aircrack. It is incapable of downloading the packets because of its slow connection speed. The PSP is currently has no wifi drivers, making this not possible.

Nice, just a couple of slight mistakes in your explanation of how WEP works:

"There's a 24-bit IV which is randomly generated and combined with the shared key that you create; those two combine to create the keystream"

Actually, they combine to create the key. This key is then fed into RC4 to generate the pseudorandom keystream.

To create the ciphered data, the entire packet (excluding the 802.11 header) is XORed with the keystream, not just the CRC checksum. The checksum is added to the rest of the regular data and then the entire bunch (LLC, data and checksum) is XORed with the keystream.

Still, great work, you guys are way more informative than most other WEP cracking vids are.

Na, we weren't contacted by the feds, but there was a couple month investigation done by local cops. Nothing came of that tho because all the attacks demonstrated in our videos are performed on my computers and networks.

And when it comes to backtrack well. Some of the best hackers in the world has written a program for the worst crackers in the world. Anyone can use it (even with windows) it's just so much easier with linux (you really have to try it to find out what I mean).

Just make sure your Access Point has mac filtering enabled, turn off SSID broadcasting and make sure you have at least a 128 encryption on your WEP and your network is fort knox.

not saying its impossible, it just makes it harder by adding more and more layers of security to your network. having SSID broadcasting turned off will make it much harder for wardrivers using something like wireshark to passive scan your network. And even then most wireless network cards these days dont have the feature of monitor mode which allow you to capture packets from other Access Points.
