I just found out this morning July 19, 2011 that she died back in April. I don't know where I was in April not to have paid attention to this news. I love Phoebe. Discovered her back when I was 11 or 12 in 1973 or '74. I played her songs over and over again, but the funniest thing is that for years I thought she was black, just light skinnnned -lol. It wasn't until an older sister told me not long ago. I think it was the curly afro. I love you Phoebe.
Do you people know how old this song is? At least 70 years. I haven't heard any version of it for several years...this is marvelous to stumble on this. It works great as a contemporary-style tune. Proof of what Sinatra said when he called her a great singer.
This takes me back to a romance in my college days. She was getting married and moving back to the west coast. I wrote a love letter and dropped a cassette of this in the envelope.
This brings back such memories!! This is among the first Phoebe songs I remember . Two Fisted Love. was anotherI was in Jr High when I was introduced to her. Thanks Brenda!!!!
An Angelic Voice is now silenced. This is my favorite Phoebe Snow Song. No Regrets is so fun. RIP Ms. Phoebe Snow. You were a true Treasure. You touched many a people with your wonderful voice.
I saw Phoebe at Convocation Hall, University of Toronto sometime in the 70's. She was phenomenal.I was incensed at a newspaper review the following day which slammed her for 'superfluous vocal manipulation'. Obviously the reviewer had never heard of singers like Ella Fitzgerald, Etta James and others, into whose company Phoebe more than justifiably resides. Nowadays 'superfluous' vocal manipulation is, unfortuantely, the norm. Phoebe's vocal presentation was a joy. What a loss !
I remember renting the first season of SNL two years ago and hearing Phoebe for the first time do her "thang" during the Paul Simon-guest star episode...this song stuck in my head immediately and I instantly fell in love with her voice..... 36 years later!! Phoebe might have made it to the next world. but her music will continue to find fans in this one. RIP Phoebe.
Phoebe, you was beautiful! I want to thank Howard Stern of all people for letting us know the heartache you lived with all those years. I pray that you and your daughter are together again forever.
I love Phoebe & the loss of her has really hit me...we have the music from her heart and I'm so grateful for that...and thank you THANK YOU to UTUBE for honoring her with the fantastic mix of 30 videos to commemorate her life! I love it so much I've posted it on my wall. So many favorites here, Sweet disposition, No regrets, Let the Good times roll, Harpo's Blues, Poetry Man...and many more!
hear, hear memfisman... the best songs ever for a lazy, romantic weekend. she didn't have it easy... and her pain was channeled into pleasure for our ears. Sing on, smooth Phoebe.
dammit. i'm with memfisman. surprised how sad i am at Phoebe's passing. she really touched me during those years of youth when everything burns so bright. caught her with herbie hancock at the auditorium in chicago once, awesome. we've lost a unique talent. bon voyage phoebe. you'll be missed.
I bought the LP NEVER LETTING GO just for this song years ago! Thanks for the post! I know she's right at home with all the other jazz greats singing sweet melodies up there!
You know my heart is heavy as she was a voice that will never be duplicated. I fell in love with "Poetry Man" esp. "There's a boat that's leave soon for NY" & "No Regrets". I saw her in Phila. in the late 70's and I thought she was black. The song she wrote for her daughter "Keep a watch on the Shoreline" really meant so much more. May she always be remembered!!!!
THIS IS THE 1 QUEEN PHOEBE! SATURDAY MORNINGS CLEANING UP WITH MY SISTERS, WE TAKE TURNS LEADING, MAKING CLEANING FUN....NO REGRETS WEARING THAT ALBUM OUTTTTT, WE ARE SO BLESSED TO HAVE HEARD UR ANGELIC ONE OF KIND POETRY IN MOTION, LOVE U 4 REAL! R.I.P
Classic indeed...I first wore this album out when I was in college (1974-78), then when my wife and I lived in Brooklyn, (1984-87) it was an indispensible part of our lives. Every cut is awesome. Yes, and old dear friend has transitioned...and we're in mourning. RIP Phoebe...no regrets.
For someone I never knew I am taking Ms. Snow's passing quite hard. I grew into adulthood with her lyrics and stylings. "It Must Be Sunday", "Harpo's Blues", "Poetry Man"...all are part of my fabric. We miss people most when they have left us for good. We are now poorer for having lost our sister
@memfisman So touching and really expresses how I feel too - thank you so much for putting it so beautifully into words. "Never Letting Go" is my favorite.
@memfisman OMG - didn't know anyone else felt that way. I cried like a baby, like I had lost one of my best friends. "It must be Sunday because everyone is telling the truth." My bestest friend, Candy (Sharon) - we grew up together - and I sat on the phone, and talked about sitting in the basement and listening to Phoebe for hours.
We will miss you Ms. Snow and thanks for the wisdom of ages. Bless you and rest in peace.
@memfisman I was thinking the same exact thing. I've seen other artists pass and as much as it hurts, Phoebe will leave a void. There's just nobody who sounds like her or is like her. She wasunique in all respects. Anyone who ever heard her will feel it.
@martinaxman well said...listening to Ms. Snow was definitely a unique experience. I was just sharing her uniqueness with a youngster a couple weeks ago from my lp collection not knowing at the time she had passed. My heart is sad right now, I just discovered this news today. Another great talent we will no longer be able to hear live again. This is a time to be grateful for youtube, recordings and technology.
@TheTruthUnderTheHood What the heck are you telling me that for. I am deep enough to know what Christmas is all about, my search is O-VER and has been for many years. Remove the last 3 letters in Christmas and your search will be over.
OH, MS SNOW, YOU HELPED ME THROUGH SOME OF MY MOST TRYING TIMES AND NO OTHER BLUES SINGER COULD MATCH YOU REALISTIC TASTE AND FEELINGS DURING ANY OF YOUR PLAY LISTS; PLEASE, MAY YOU REST IN PEACE AND AGAIN I THANK YOU.
@searcherboy-what are you searching for? No heaven? I think you need to keep searching. How sad if there is no heaven and Phoebe will never see her sweet daughter again. Although, I hope she is there, I know her daughter is there. But if Phoebe is in heaven, It's not because she was a better person than anyone else. The Bible says none of us are righteous, only God- and it is only through the blood of Jesus that we can be made clean. I hope you keep searching until you find the Truth.
I am wrecked to hear of this wonderful woman's passing. Saw her in concert in Kansas City in 1979...what a powerhouse! This news is tragic to me. RIP my lovely... ='- (
Very sad to hear the news. She had some hard luck in life, but was blessed with a great talent that lifted up everyone who heard her sing. I remember seeing her perform on the Letterman show years ago - he had her sit in with the band for several nights running. She was so happy just to be there - did she know how she was loved? I don't believe there's a heaven, but if anyone deserves to be there, it's Phoebe Snow.
God Bless you Phoebe we will miss you. Loved your voice and style. You were a gift of smooth grace and jazzy finese. Rest in peace beautiful,no regrets.
@mark3harris - me, too! I worked in a bar restaurant summer of 1976 and drove my co-workers crazy because I had to drop a dime in the jukebox at least once a day. Great artist, great mom, and she worked with the best sidemen. I had the good fortune to see her line in Cincinnati in '76 or '77.
PEACE MY SISTA...YOU GAVE ME SO MUCH JOY DURING OUR YOUNGER DAYS....JACK OF DIAMONDS ..BOY, THAT'S A LUCKY CARD.....WE'LL CELEBRATE WHEN WE MAKE IT...WE'LL JUMP ALL OVER THE YARD.....

thanks for you comment on my Sweet Disposition upload, musicminor. It was actually all your uploads of classics for the past couple of years that inspired me to upload it. It's first personally-made youtube video ever!
What a great song for singers to practice to. I used to sing this one and her version of "San Francisco Bay Blues" until the grooves got thin...and then did some more.
Listen to all of those intricate intervals. man. "NO,oh,oh,oh,oh,oh,oh,oh,oh regrets, though our lovely love affair has gone away..."
My late mom's collection from Newark in the 70's....This was a talent that only I seemed to know..grew up in eclectic Montclair..yet no one who thought they knew music in the arrogant 80's knew Phoebe...If they didi they were truly a gem to me...you gotta hear the whole album, people!!! with no regrets !!!
I was riding a bus to downtown San Diego when a guy go on with an arm full of albums. He started passing them out saying "the chick is really hot." I took one back home and listened to it. For the next three years, Phoebe was my goddess. It was her first album, and later I got into her second, third, and fourth albums. Jeez, that was over 30 years ago.
Could you please post her cover of Barbara Acklin's "Love Makes a Woman"...Thank you....THIS CUT HERE.....AWESOME, BABY...I must confess, I slept on a lot of Phoebe Snow's material for biased reasons....Thank God for YouTube for musical enlightenment....
The jazz singer's jazz singer! A phenomenal talent. I grew up listening to her music. I was a total addict. and still am. I saw a gig of hers in London in the late 70;s. And what a dedicated mother she was too. She SO does not deserve a stroke. Get well soooooooon - we love you!
Phoebe is someone who really uses her voice as an instrument. The only person I can listen to in all my 26. 5 years and feel comforted even on my darkest days...and I've seen a lot of dark days no matter how bright things appear to everyone else.
this album is Phoebe's best! It saved my life I had some hard times and listening to her got me through the roughest time in my life! Thanks Phoebe!!!!
I remember hearing this song as a child and have always loved it. This woman's vocal stylings are one of a kind. I am so grateful to have found this song on here. Thanks for the post and the memories.
I will never forget her.

Phoebe is someone who really uses her voice as an instrument. The only person I can listen to in all my 26. 5 years and feel comforted even on my darkest days...and I've seen a lot of dark days no matter how bright things appear to everyone else.
