Just wanted to say thank you all for the compliments. I'm actually going to take this video down in the next week or two and add a couple of new videos, one including a not so butchered version of Insects. Most likely be doing Insects, MirrorriM and Medusa. With that being said, keep your eyes on my channel for some upcoming videos, hopefully ones that don't suck :P
I'm mostly inspired by Jazz Fusion bass players. Those guys are mind meltingly good. I greatly appreciate you comment though. Looking forward to catching you at a show.
I read the first couple of comments on your video and am disgusted by the absolute lack of positive feedback, so in an attempt to negate a little bit of it I have to say that this video is awesome and you are a very talented player. Thank you for the upload.
If you're going to be so basic, at least hit some pentatonic sequences or string skip so the notes are in harmony. After listening to psyopus, their guitarist is out of his mind thinking he can give tapping lessons, It's inspired me to post a video of true technique rather than the slop he's slinging.
@quigequige I have a tap video of me doing LAZY taps that absolutely shame that guy from Psyopus. He couldn't compete with my 2 hand technique on my worst day=which my tap video is a representation of.
So if you're going to sell videos on tap technique, at least be able to hit basic ones in melodic keys. He can't even do that and neither can you.
Second, don't judge someone by what you hear on a record. I have toured with Chris Arp and have seen the stuff he can really do. And not to be a jerk or anything, although your tapping technique video is impressive, it still contains the same stuff you were complaining about. The notes you play ( the ones you can actually hear because of the horrible distorted sound ) sound like a broken computer, kinda like Buckethead tapping. Be polite, thanks
@Skelbassist my tapping is far better than buckethead's or Chris's and is indeed, in key. That video is also some REALLY basic stuff, I can hit some very complex sequences such as true 8 finger sequential arpeggios, They're by far the most difficult and to find anyone that can do them is nearly impossible, even if they can play pieces that require all 8 fingers.
So no I'm not quick to judge, I'm just a more advanced player and got sick of him spamming his instructional DVD on myspace.
@JonDeth I mean it's pretty obvious that you have no friends, and all you do is play guitar. Regardless of that fact being a dick isn't going to get you anywhere in life, and neither are your "amazing" tapping skills. So please do me a favor and die, just kill yourself (casually of course, because thats how I would kill you).
Another thing is this, I'm playing what a previous bass player wrote. And if you know anything about PsyOpus, it isn't the most melodic stuff ever written. So playing "pentatonic sequences" during a atonal/diminished lick is the wisest of ideas. Also, why the hell do you feel the need to randomly come to a video and spew a bunch of complete trash? The life of a "elitist" guitar troll. Ha, that actually makes sense since you are or trying to be a guitar player.
@AaronWelchMusic that's a very blind, ignorant statement. I simply pointed out that the guitarist from the band he's covering isn't very good and his methodology is greatly faulted. Out of key, fast taps sound more robotic than melodic taps. Composed taps of course sound the best and sadly, his horrid sound IS composed.
That's right, someone is actually putting hard work into sounding that incredibly bad AND, he's trying to charge people to learn how to do it!
@JonDeth That's a matter of opinion, yes, it's horribly chromatic, stupidly fast and almost robotic sounding, but if people want to sound like that, then they will do.
I love psyopus, and you're just taking the part of a troll who thinks themselves an 'intellectual'.
Their Guitarist is an amazing player, and you not liking his style doesn't change it, i'm sure he could do all your melodic taps and pentatonic scales easy as anything, but so can so many other people, thus his niche in the market.
The guy was spamming the hell out of us on myspace so, I did a search for him on youtube and this came up. After hearing what he had to offer, and his crap about palm muting for Jesus, I served up my opinion and deleted him.
If you're going to promote yourself as having knowledge worth paying for, you need to be very thorough and he's not even close. It's not simply chromatic, it's off key and sour. My sloppy improv sounds better than his best work
@JonDeth "True technique" really doesn't apply to Psyopus. Obviously you're a music theory fundamentalist who struggles with style and creativity because you're locked into a world of exacts. Thinking that there is a "right way" and a "wrong way" to tap, as well as to cover a Psyopus song (which I'd like to see you do), is complete bullshit
Sour notes combined with other sour notes doesn't sound good and has nothing to do with theory.
Theory is boring and uncreative, my music very clearly demonstrates pure, free form artistry by being atonal and enigmatic. Theory produces template style music like Malmsteen, Cooley, Romeo etc.
Psyopus sells instructional vids on tapping and kept spamming me. I checked his work out, it's terrible and years behind me. Look up Adam Fulara ya turd
@JonDeth Your music demonstrates nothing of the kind. Your playing style sounds no different from any of the guitarists you mentioned. Unless I'm watching the wrong video or misinterpreting some subtle irony here, I honestly don't think you could ever play the way Christopher Arp does, and the fact that you hate him so much is obvious envy
@p2psux5 you don't have the expertise or experience to even make such assertions.
My skill set is well beyond his and lightyears beyond yours , My videos are a HOBBY, I don't spend an hour practicing then recording a dozen takes so I can post the very best one. EVERY GUITARIST ON YOUTUBE claiming to be a pro in fact does even though they will deny it to no end.
I can hit 8 finger succession arpeggios as demonstrated in my vid and when rehearsed, they're faster and clean.
@JonDeth live that lie, you over self-gratifying attention whore. a thesaurus and inflated sense of skill and self-worth do not a master guitarist make. now, kindly shut the hell up and quit being such a little bitch :D
@JonDeth I have never claimed to be a musician. I have played guitar for only several years and with no instruction, purely for fun; I have no doubt you are "beyond" than me at it. However, when comparing yourself to a well-established and creative musician like Christopher Arp, being "beyond" his skill set is not a valid unit of comparison. Arpeggios and finely-crafted technique mean nothing if they aren't creative or original.
@Skelbassist haha....awesome, Brent. I also only recently became aware of the fact that you played with them at one point. Really beautiful playing, here.
Damned good, i must say. The twitch spots were just a hair off, but still, extremely impressive, regardless. I love playing psyopus songs. Very challenging. :) Where are you from?
The point? Music is a thing to be shared, not hoarded selfishly. I simply don't understand why you would refuse to give out tablature of music that you clearly know how to play. Where is the "wrong" in teaching someone how to play a song with the aid of a tab? Not everyone can decipher how to play music by listening to a song, and who are you to stand in the way of someone else's desire to learn?
I don't want to learn to play this song. I don't play bass, and I'm well aware that I cannot play Psyopus songs on my guitar. That doesn't mean I can't be annoyed with him for being selfish.
Whoa whoa whoa mates. Everyone chill before this turns into a flame war. Brandnew, the reason I do not give out the tabs is because out of respect to Chris Arp. I'm not trying to screw anyone out of learning ( especially since I posted a video of me playing the song, horribly in my opinion) a PsyOpus song. I would suggest asking him for tabs.
i saw this guy play with psyopus and he was amaizing live. is he a permanent member or filling in? the song x and y on the new album is some of the best bass playing EVER.
Hey there. Thank you for the compliments. I was just filling in for a couple of tours with the band. X and Y is my favorite song off the new record, the bass player Mike Horn is amazing. Check out my band BELLICIST.

that was excellent dude. i know how hard the timing is in this song. you hit like 97% of the notes man, the timing is the only thing that makes it sound off. dude that was sick i hope you keep it up
Dem if you hear Psyopus the first time, you don't get how talented all the musicans are, not only Arp.
