You're not supposed to hold the bar where ever you are comfortable. You need to find a good distance from the top to hold (as was shown). Then, while holding the bar at the top with your left or right hand (as taught) bring your elbow from the same arm up and place your other hand's thumb underneath it on the pole. THIS IS WHAT TELLS YOU HOW WIDE YOU NEED TO HOLD IT.
actually the grip you should reach up as high as you can with the pole straight up, the move 5 hands up the pole, as for the other hand, hold the pole with one hand on the pole ands the other end of the pole on the ground, on an angle, pull the pole back, and your un-dominant hand should line up with your armpit. i have been vaulting for 1/2 of a season, and with that grip, and alot of speed, i am clearing 12'6" not even lying...
this guy sucks ass im a short asian and i can vault 13 ft and stupid fart doesnt know crap u want to have a cresent shape it allows shoulder penatration which gives u a longer whipping motion DUH lol SERGEI BUBKA RULES
And my old buddy Anthony Curran, the UCLA coach and my other buddies at Mt. sac and the clinics there, taught us alot of stuff like this. The coaches i know, coached guys like gio lanaro, toby stevenson, tim mack and Jeff ryan.
U KNOW MY COACH REALLY??? wow hey say hi to him say the little asian kid jeff said hi JEFF RYAN and he was my coach tho his mom was my 2nd grade teacher LOL say hi to him for me
his mom was really my second grade teacher mrs. ryan from plavan he has a gf forgot her name but shes crazy too shes like uber good swimmer SEE i know him tell him im jeff tran from fountain valley high school
sorry about all of the comments... but this video disgusts me... The bottom hand should not be facing down. you should have your palm facing up holding under the pole as soon as that pole hits the box. no power any other way to get that bottom hand out and get a bit more bend for time to swing up.
Yes as you are running with the pole, your hand should be down to aviod stress as you run. When you take off, then the rules change. What do you clear, by the way?
wow and the method of putting in the box is fucking shitty. honestly by then you are way out, or under according to where the pole ends up going to in the back of the box.
what a piece of shit. that old dood says good runners, jumpers, and someother thing dont make good vaulters. Our school's best vaulter at the time is jumping 15 and he only weighs 125 as a senior, barely strong, he is kind-of fast. but not niggerfast. and he used to run distance.
I think that this whole selection thing is shiiite.
Like with a handstand, if you find someone who's never tried doing handstands before, they're probably not gonna be able to do it!
I can't do a handstand, but i'd be alright at all those other things. I know someone who'd be awesome at all that stuff, but can't pole vault for shite.
It just make sas little work as possible for the coach to condition their athlete.
That old racist fart can go suck it, I can't jump vertical worth a flip (i'm 6' tall and I can barely touch a basketball rim) and yet I still got 3rd in A-AA state with a height of 12'...as a sophomore in highschool. If someone wants to vault, then let them vault.
12 feet is not very good though. In California 12 feet as a sophomore is crap. I can high jump 6'7 and im 5'9. I vault 17 feet. Just about everything he said to do is right.
dang...i'm not soo good at jumping/running/pull ups/hand stand but i do, do long jump and i guess i'm okay for a newb and for pole vaulting i just started like last month and i can get 6 feet but i have no upper body strength
