I just don't understand why ppl are comparing DT with IM. IM is a classic heavy metal legend, i can't think anyone in this world who hasn't heard about them.They sold out Long Beach arena in '85 four nights in a row..thats all total 600.000 ppl, and they did that without media support.

DT is a complex,complicated, and progressive metal band, with musicians being god of their instruments.

You just can't compare them..not to mention that IM influenced DT as well.

The real test of a musician is not whether they can take two years of sitting in their poster-laden bedrooms learning Iron Maiden note for note.

Its whether you can pick up an instrument and create somethning unique and entertaining, of your own composition, right there on the spot...AND have that improv be ejoyable for a listener. If you can't do that, then you're not a musician yet.....and unfortunately, sometimes practice isn't enough, you have to have some inbuilt vision...chew on that.

People will always try to brag about what songs they can play but if you ask them to play something they made up either they don't have anything or what they have is simple and boring. it's Joe Petrucci. not John. Dave Murray (and Adrian SMith) mostly uses the good old pentatonic scales in solos. Petrucci's technique made him get an invitation to play with Satriani ande Vai in G3. Technically he's much better and technically all musicians are much more capable that members of Iron Maiden. which doesn't mean IM sucks. they're great and I prefer them to DTh. it's just a fact, but you don't love music for the technical abilities of the musicians.
