  • @saxman1219 ....I agree with everything you are saying but there is one BIG difference. While Richard Smallwood, Keith Pringle, The Hawkins Brothers(Walter and Edwin) and others at the time , may have seemed radical upon their arrival , we still knew what they were singing was GOSPEL music. There was a definite separation between their music and the secular music. Now its often too hard to distinguish.

  • I song this song with her when she came to Frederick md back in the 80's for a choir workshop

  • This song brings back sooo many memories!!!

  • This is one of my favorite songs. I was fortunate to have meet Myrna Summers many years ago when I was a member of New Samaritan Baptist Church in Washington,D>C . This was before she went to Refreshing Springs.

  • One last example; back in the 1600's, when Bach was writing music for the Church, he objected to and condemned as satanic and vulgar, this new instrument that people were starting to use. The instrument was . . . the piano. Can we imagine Christian music today without it? God doesn't sit still. Our kids should appreciate our stuff, but let God direct them to do theirs. As long as they're of the right spirit, let's not judge by the sound, but by the message and the spirit behind it.

  • I have say though; not all of today's Gospel is fleshy and un-anointed. It's just different from what we listened to coming up. Think about it; if you were born in the 50's with roots in the deep South, you may have heard Grandma complaining about how the instruments we hear on this song were demonic. My choir went to Churches where we couldn't bring drums, guitars or any instruments in the building. It was considered sinful. I know a Pastor who banned Richard Smallwood's music.

  • The thing I admired about Evangelist Summers was that she refused to get caught up in the Gospel music "Industry". She wasn't about going on tours, about making money, winning awards, etc. She just wanted to make music which honored the Lord, which she did . . . and still does. It's hard to believe that this was way back in '82. Where does the time go?

  • Where can I find this song on CD?

  • 3 ppl are having a cloudy day

  • I was born in the 58 and worship in church all my life and love every time i went, and still going. The older gospel songs had great meaning to it, and you can feel the spirit moving all around. Plus i love wearing robes. Boy i wish choirs wil sing some older song (ILIKE) I CAN DEPEND ON GOD,ETC.........

  • dont hear these songs nor this "sound" anymore in churches these days. everyone wants to sing those songs off the internet nowdays that are gospel but have no annointing and doesnt sing about sin and how you can be free from it, they're all "feel good" and "sound good" songs these days.

and why did the churches get away from choirs? these so-called praise teams suck! the choir was one reason young ppl stayed in the church and had something to look forward too.

  • Well, Bless my heart why don't you. I feel like a shout come on about right now.

  • ...while it may be nice to be exposed to the rich heritage of gospel music, and some of the traditions of the church...what good will that do if people are still dying and going to Hell? Just something to think about!

  • @rilmarie thats why we need prayer and fasting. a wise man winneth souls. the church is wise today, they have gotten away from choirs which use to keep young people in. the church today, yes, is very mean and lazy. pastors want the fame instead of the pain. souls are not being delivered because the church has gotten away from prayer meetings in the homes, the pews, gotten away from visiting hospitals, jails, houses, etc. when i came up, whole families came to church, we had tent meetings.

  • ...to have a personal relationship with them, heal them, and walk closely with them. How about they walk alongside of the younger generation as an encourager, and a cheer-leader...telling them that God has a purpose and a plan for their lives. How about they offer rebukes and correction in love to the younger generation...

  • @rilmarie it isnt AT ALL about the stupid music and songs, in the bible days as well as the 1920s through the 1950s and 60s we didnt have the kind of music we have today. but people then still got saved and stayed saved and in the church. today we hardly ever mention the baptism in Jesus name nor the holyghost and tongues, just say a prayer and you're saved and we wonder why they have no power to stay. even the bible said "some things only come THROUGH prayer and fasting.

  • I love this song! So uplifting!

  • i feel for today's generation. they missed out on how church use to be and suppose to be. these days they are inundated with professional sounding digital keyboard crap music and rap mess. they will never know the difference between an anointed song and a fleshly feel good song,

the worse part is that the adults arent pushing it and teaching the younger ones about it. we sit bacl and complain about the youth and we have we been all these years. we're gonna answer to God about it. me too.

  • With all do respect, @721rem our main focus should be on drawing people to Christ and discipling them into maturity. Whether that entails using an organ, an electric guitar, rap lyrics, a harp, or a tamborine...it makes no difference. If the adults really, truly want to reach the younger generation, then how about they come out from behind the cookie-cutter "Christian" masquerades, and get open and honest with them about life, about the mistakes they made, and how Jesus desperately wants...

  • @rilmarie Now that's Real!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • If you ever have the chance to talk to as I have, you would know that an angle is delivering a message to you thru words and songs,so pay attention and listen and recieve the message, if not, ( you just want to know) ...luv u cus...cosmo

  • i just attended the funeral of my dear friend only 30 yrs old...and i found myself not mourning him, but singing this song to myself...giving me comfort. praise be to God.

  • Oh I want to see Him, look upon His face, there to sing forever of His saving grace, on the streets of glory let me lift my voice. Cares are past, home at last, ever to rejoice. As Myrna Summers sings this great gospel song it allows you to know that it's okay to die. As the Apostle Paul states, "To live is Christ and to die is again." Sometimes I cannot wait to get there.

  • I agree broccolihart1. I liked her the minute I listened to her.

  • she has that"it" factor....just like the reverend j. cleveland.....magic !!!

  • have not heard this song in years, forgotten how moving it is thanks for posting.

  • Sweet Jesus of my Salvation!!!!!!!

  • Lord, tears are flowing, so many wonderful memories of the GMWA days, and living to see that "uncloudy day". I just love this song..........Thanks for posting it.

  • @MzSurvivor13 I'm alittle bit prejuice because she is really my couisin. But she is for real, and the most wonderful person to meet or know. She is well and still praising the Lord. I was just speacking out for my cousin

  • I love this song.

  • Thank you so much for posting this....i knew I could find it on You Tube.

Loved this song from back in the day.

  • WOW!! You did it with this one!!!

  • Oh they tell me of a King in his beauty, beauty there, and they tell me that my eyes shall behold where he sits on a throne. LOVE THIS SONG!!!

  • This song brings tears to my eyes...Praise Jesus!!

  • Myrna Summers is an "unsung hero" in today's gospel music world. Let's give her roses while she's still here! Please pardon my criticism of today's gospel singers. But for me they just don't compare to our singers, song writers, musicians of the 60's 70's & 80's (I was too young to remember the 50's and back.)

If you have access to Myrna's version of You Can Depend On God, please bless us by posting it! I like Keith Pringle's version of it, but I love Myrna's version of song over Keith's.

  • @cougar11c i agree there is just something missing with 2days gospel singers ,their music just does not move the soul or touch the heart like these songs and performers did................

  • @cougar11c I agreed, there was great writers in the 90s too (in my perspective). We just have to pray for the new and upcoming artist.

  • @cougar11c i agree with u 200 percent. the real gospel disappeared in the 90s. i dont even listen to the new gospel music. but anyways keep ur thoughts they r lovely.

  • @chrisb0009 You are right...Gospel music died in the 90's.

Today it is no good...except for a few good songs.

  • love this!

  • StarBrown1, Oh, you took me back! I remember hearing this song once on a gospel music station more than 30 years ago. I called to request it to be played again but it never was, or at least I never heard it again, but the song has stayed w/ me ever since. I've been chasing it & now thanks to you, I found it! Thanks so much for the post and God bless you.

  • what happen to songs like this.

  • this song sets my soul on fire

  • i love when my church plays this song

  • James Baldwin mentions this song in "If Beale Street could talk".

  • i love this song and i remember this song growing up and i cry everytime i hear it. i dont know all of the chorus part could somebody fill me in some words i understand and some i dont

  • @cupcake0212 heres the chorus:

Oh they tell me of a home where my loved ones gone. On they tell me of a land way up there so far away where the tree of life spreads its fragrance thru the air. OH they tell me of an uncloudy day.

Oh they tell me of a King and his beauty, beauty there. And they tell me that my eyes shall behold where he sits on the throne, that is whiter than snow in that city made of gold. Oh they tell me of an uncloudy day.

  • i need all the christain freinds and subs please thank you i feel we can reach people if we be a freind to them with all meekness and kindness i am trying to do something good on youtube there are so many atheists please help me fight thank you

  • Have you considered that it may not be up to you to "fight?" Not everyone will believe as you believe nor behave as you behave. If in fact you go to them with meekness and kindness then and they don't receive you, you have done what you were suppose to do.

  • i dont fight the people i fight the devil i make freinds with atheists do you think i got my atheist freinds from bashing them? i have had many good conversations with many different people i try to be nice i guess i should have cleared that up im not fighting atheists im fighting the spirit of the antichrist and the devil and it is up to me to fight the devil

  • This is the joint right here...never betterm never better!!! Just a blesssing!

  • i love this song

  • i love this song. thanks for posting.

  • How old was she here? She look so young.

  • mother died christmas day 6:30 a.m. 1996 I still hurt saints pray for me I need to go on to see what the end is going to be

  • praying for you

  • You are hurting because you have not given an accurate and high enough appraisal of the Glory where she is. The Apostle Paul says your afflictions are light compared to the glory that lies ahead of you. If you realized half the Glory of where your Mother is, you would be rejoicing with her! Please be encouraged! May the Lord comfort you.

  • thank u

  • what u just said just blessed me...thanks and God bless you!

  • You will make it to the end. I feel the same way when I think about not having my mom here with me. Just know that the love, faith, hope and strength that your mom instilled in you has helped you make it these past 13 years. I believe in God's word and prayer but I know sometimes you just want your mama's smile or hug. Nothing replaces that. There will always be days when the loss is overwhelming but always remember "Weeping my endure for a night..."

  • THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU,,,I had the pleasure of working with her,,,i played drums for her at bountiful blessings and i will say she IS my favorite to have played for,,,,and her strick disapline was is what made me where i am in my career as a musician,,,and im still filled with emotions and memories

  • I have this album; I enjoy this song immensely.

One of these days, I'm going to play the rest of the album!

  • U must play the rest of it . There is one song on there (Jesus Paid it all) they had church on that one

  • This song brings back such great memories. I always wanted to go to this place that she sings about. One day I will be there. Thanks for the post and the memories.

  • AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME.....

  • StarBrown1 - you posted this video last year on my birthday. a time when I had to watch my closest cousin lay her only child to rest. Today I found it here, while preparing to do the same for my father. Thank you for reminding me of the silver lining for these children of God. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!!

  • I could never find this song. I sang this songs years ago in the choir. I never understood the song until recently, I lost my father 9-20-09 and I miss him so much. Another song is 12th gates to heaven, and on my way home those were sung at my father's funeral. thanks for posting this song.

  • As soon as the music started, I was overcome with emotions. My dad (God rest his soul), use to sing this with our church choir when I was little. It brings back so many memories for me. Choirs don't sing about Heaven like that anymore.

  • Sounds like Ray ParkerJr.on synthersizer

  • Good old gospel!I've been tirelessly trying to find this cd.

  • I just heard another choir singing this song this morning 7/12/09 on KSTL 690am radio at 7:15 this morning. They did not announce who was singing it but I am going to find out. They really did a great job. They did not change the arrangement they just (as my moma says) "barefoot sang the song."

  • You can now purchase this song on itunes. Search Myna Summers & The Refreshing Springs COGIC

  • sorry for misspelling of first name "Myrna."

  • Where has this kind of spiritual choir singing gone. Where has the "choir" gone. i miss it so much. can't we have "old school' choirs and praise teams all at the same time? I mean i am glad that "I am a friend of God" and i jump around a lot in worship service singing it but i would like to be moved and stirred too.

  • I KNOW!!! I love it!!! It's 12:50 AM and I've listened to this many times already and am so touched. The music and harmonies are very soothing and comforting as well as the lyrics.

  • They are in South Africa. Check out the Joyous Celebration videos

  • Hey, thanks a lot kbkcogic! I will check it out.

  • ugh! I love her voice then and I love the maturity in her voice today.

  • I've been up all Saturday night and now it's 7:00AM Sunday listening to your recordings of Myrna and many other great gosgel singers from the 1950's to the 1980's.

If you have this song, would you PLEASE bless us one mo' 'gin and add "You Can Depend on God"?

    Thanks again, and be blessed!

  • Great Song!!!! Brings back memories for me in my young adult years!!!

  • I would hear this song every Sunday morning as I was getting ready for church. Station KDIA played this faithfully er Sunday!!!! God bless whomever put this on YOUTUBE!!!

  • You must be from Detroit :-) Yes, I too remember this song each Sunday on Radio Station KDIA. Martha Jean (the Queen) played this recording a lot as well). However, I now truly love her more matured voice version as she sings it today.

  • We used to sing this song! Oh they tell me of a home!

  • my mother Dempsie L Trammell loved this song, may god bless my whole family.Mom when to heaven 6/28/94

  • omg!!! this is my moms favrite song!!!!!!

  • OMG!!!!!!!!!! Thank you for posting this video.... It takes me straight back to my childhood (you know back when I knew EVERYTHING and couldn't wait to be GROWN)... Thank you soooooo much!!!!

  • This takes me back, too! I first heard this when I was 7 or 8 and was just humming it the other day.

  • Not just the piano intro, but the bass guitar and the drums make this Gospel Classic one of my favorites. God bless!!!

  • I remember hearing this song on the radio as a child in the 80s back in Bklyn. Beautiful song! Our mass choir will be singing it in Birmingham, AL in March.

  • Oh yes...thats it an, Uncloudy Day!

    May God Bless this Artist!

  • @Blaquecherry77 amen amen

  • @Blaquecherry77 I Was barely out of high school when when this came out, and let me tell you, there was this young lady in my choir that sang this song, in her version, that did not not do this justice. I thank God for this music, I really mean it. It brings back so many happy memories for me, and memories are important to me. Thank you Ms Summers for all your work and what you have contributed to this industry, stay BLESSED.

  • MZCHOSEN12009, Star Brown has better directions than myself. To be clear, these cities are within a short distance. I

  • Wow, someone removed GOD GAVE ME A SONG....not good. I came home today to hear it and its gone....

  • I love this song, But can somebody tell me how I can get a copy of it. i've tried to look her name up in cd's but nothing comes up. God Bless

  • do the next best thing...down load this to your REALPLAYER

  • and how do you do that????? I have realplayer and will this allow me to copy to a cd????

  • Myrna STILL SINGS. Thank God. An Update of this song was song at the Homegoing Services of Apostol GE Patterson. I would check local stores that specializes in older gospel songs. The is one is Memphis of Poplar Avenue. But Chicago has several. Lastly, check with the management company for Myrna Summers. She still sings...thank God

  • thank you dgraylouis. but I live in California and we don't have a store that specializes in older gospel. Would anybody know of a website that i can order some old gospel songs?

  • Myrna Summers lives in Silver Springs, Maryland. I recently did a search in Yahoo and Google using these words "Silver Springs, Maryland Gospel. Several churches popped up. I really beleive that perhaps one of those church members is somewhat aquainted with Ms. Summers or her family. Her voice alone says that her family has been in a church somewhere for some time..

Secondly, Bountiful Blessing COGIC in Memphis, Tennessee invited her. They may have a better way of reaching her manager.

  • Evangelist Summers lives in the DC area, but not in Silver Spring. Currently, she is the Minister of Music at Reid Temple AME in Glendale, MD. You can contact the church bookstore for their latest recording. Evang. Summers also has a website with contact information.

  • Ebay is always a good place to check. There are a lot of people selling Vinyl LPs and because most don't appreciate gospel, you can get some really good deals. And Records by Mail's website has had Myrna's albums from time to time.

  • thank u for your help Starbrown1 and dgraylouis

  • My God. this brings back memories in 1982, I was in elementary school. Times were different back then. Even ministry was different.

  • Chills! I love songs about going "home".

  • praise god for this song thank u jesus

  • I remember her when i was a little girl at Refreshing springs There was something about her that had me drawn to her. I remember her singing the Jesus in me is the jesus in you and she was going around singing that to ppl in the church. I hope she stops by the springs again when im up there.

  • I am blessed to know Sister Myrna from my former church, and she is such an annointed Woman of God who not only sings the songs healing the soul, but she lives the life she sings about. Sister Myrna I am so blessed to know you. Continue on in the work of the Lord. This Sister continues to sing for the Lord and share her gift and minister the Gospel.

  • I have to add my two cents. Myrna Summers is the only singer I have ever witnessed that was anointed every time she sang. Not once, whether in church or on the road, have I ever seen her not minister a song.

  • This song reminds me of childhood. One night we were coming home from church and this song came on the radio, I was about 12 years at the time and the Holy Ghost overwhelmed me and I started weeping. My mother was weeping also. We just couldn't stop crying. I'll never forget that night. I am now 36 years old and I have thought about this song over the years that reminds us of a home called Heaven. Praise be to God! Amen. Thanks for posting this song.

  • My mom sang this at my Dad's funeral in April. It will forever be a special song to me and my family. God was with her for her to be able to have the strength to sing it at that moment.

  • please dont ever take this song off youtube thank you so much for posting (crying) this song means alot to me

  • Me too! I have such fond memories of this song from the 80s. I used to hear this song almost daily....and this is when I fell in love with music...the intricacies of music. I love this original!

    Love Ya Always,

    Fayth

  • Thank you. It is a blessing just to listen to!

  • My lord! My Lord! Thank U! This song is what church use to be like! My choir at church is on fire about singing it! We really miss hearing one of the mothers singing it! She herself is ready and on Fire to do it also!

  • I really love this song and it makes me look with so much more anticipation and joy to the fulfillment of 1st Thessalonians 4:13-17 When I can see my Savior & Lord face to face and all of my born-again brothers & sisters from down thru the ages, from all over this earth. And we can behold Him on His throne in all of Holy and Glorious Radiance !!!! Even so now come Lord Jesus, Amen & Amen !!!

  • Thank you for the throw back. Been looking for this song...

  • You haven't heard anything until you've heard Minister D. Caldwell of North Carolina sing this classic. One of my favorite songs from the 80s!!! Thanks for posting.

  • This song ranks high in my personal inspirational song library. It is simply anointed, the right singer, right music, right choir. It all comes together to paint a beautiful picture of what God has prepared for those that love him. HALLELUJAH!!!

  • GEESH. This song does bring back sooo many memories of just being young and going to church with my grandmother. I can't remember if she had the album or if i remember our choir singing it. I would love to shock the church and sing this. This song just makes me feel so good inside. I've listened at my desk about 15 times back to back. Thank God for songs like this, and people like you reminding us of the old songs. God Bless.

    GRACE EMMANUEL PLFD, NJ

  • Sister Myrna is supported by Reverend Isaac Douglas on this song. It sounds as good today as it did when it came out. I'm glad it was put on. Powerful

  • I asked several people who sang on the recording who was the man at the end and none of them could remember. And of course I always forget to ask Myrna when I see her. Finally, the mystery is solved. Thank yu!

  • This song I remember listening to while getting ready for church back in the day. We need these songs back in the church. These were gospel songs that were sung the way Jesus spoke to the people during His life time. Plain and simple. No vocal gymnastics and not a lot of keyboard runs or complicated chord progressions. Just plain old church choir singing. Who's with me?!

  • I remember listening to this song back in 1982when I was in Bible college studying to be a pastor. My roommate introduced me to Myrna Summers album and I use to play this song all the time...Oh the precious memories!!

  • I remember this song from back in the day and I will be singing it tomorrow for our church's Annual Homecoming.......Lord have Mercy!!!!! This song brings back memories, when church was CHURCH and singing was just singing.....no whole lot of runs, this music requires you to just stand flat foot and just SAAANNNGGGGG!!!!!

  • You've got that right. Thank God for these relics from the past; and yes you're right - "when Church was Church". People still revered God. Let's keep praying.

    Mz. Pat in Charlotte

  • Hallelujah soaplandon" let's keep praying seriously. Because the World can't tell the difference from a christian or one of their own now. It's gotten that bad. And, I am not that old, but I see that the church has become Business and no GOD. We say His Name, but that's it! "If my people who are called by MY Name would humble themselves and pray, and turn from their wicked ways; THEN will I hear from the FATHER and Heal The Land". The world and christians included need healing, We must pray.

  • I agree with you, but I need you to quote the scriputer right. It says,"If my people which are called by name would humble themselves and pray, seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven, I will forgive their sins and heal the land." It is so important that we quote correctly becuase when we take out words or add things we change the meaning of God's word.

Said in Love, God bless you,

    revtre08

  • Recieved in the spirit it was given. Thank you and God bless you.

    Nett1eb/

  • Hi, would you sing it with a choir? I'm trying to think of a way to sing it solo. any advise?

  • I have loved this song since I was little

  • YES! YES! YES! This is gospel.

  • OMG...i thought i wuz the only one who had this original recording!!!

  • Who is the man at the end...I always wondered that?

  • It sounds like the late Rev. Isaac Douglas

  • It is. They said Myrna just pulled him out of the audience. I think she caught him off guard, if you notice some of his phrasing.

  • houston! ! ! don't be lazy, yall remember george green, george griffin, james bond, carl preacher, v michael mckay, please, put those songs on here too! ! ! ...lol seriously.

  • If you think "Uncloudy Day" is great (and it is!), you should hear her version of "Amazing Grace". It's on one of her self-released albums. Myrna sang it at my mom's homegoing service and wrecked the house!

  • I love her version of "Amazing Grace" too. Especially the opening..."waaaaas bliiind". However, her version of Uncloudy Day is the best version of the song.

BTW, does the baby in my icon look familiar?

  • Yes, she does! That's my little lamb!

  • JERRY GORHAM.... Blessed are they who die in the Lord.

  • Love ya...

    Myrna...

  • somebody needs to put magnify him by myrna summers and Rev.Timothy Wright on here... itz tooooooooo many uncloudy days on youtube!!!
