  • Petty only stayed with MOPAR for, I believe, 1 year.

  • Love these, not a fan of the taillights, but still love the car

  • This is not an SCJ car, way to many things missing for it to be just a regular Spoiler 429 cobrajet,It takes more than a 4bl holly to make an SCJ

  • NEVER DID LIKE THE FRONT END ON THESE

  • Could not touch a Hemi? both the Ford 427 and the 429 outran the Hemi's in Nascar! Richard Petty even switched from his Hemi Mopar, in 1969, to a 429 Torino. He said himself he could'nt beat em, so he joined them!

  • @xboostedbirdx not entirely true, the Hemi 426 in the Superbird and the Daytona Charger clocked over 220 on the big tracks and it was the Hemi that made it unfair to the other engines!

  • @xboostedbirdx The 429 semi hemi was banned at NASCAR for an unfair advantage, the OHC side oiler 427 would run with the Dodges. Back in the day Ford and Dodge were heavy competition, poor GM. Now the only thing branded in NASCAR are the decals, the engines are special cast, bodys all have to pass the template inspection, same template fits every car, regardless of brand, and face it, how do they resemble the street version, 4dr, front drive, v-6 and 4bangers

  • @Maples01 yup:\

I wish they would bring back "real" nascars... I'd love to see what they do then... maybe we will get another super bird :)

  • @xboostedbirdx uhm last time i check richard petty drove a 1970 superbird in 1970....

  • An interesting front end on this car. That's what I loved about cars of this era-they all had their own personality. Cars now a days almost all look alike. Not back then, when you seen one of these you knew what it was!

  • my dad has 2 of these 1970 mercury cyclone spoilers, one is 700hp tht run low 11's its accaully the blue one on the right of ur screen lol

  • for you, Steven...

  • The best fkn car in the world...........

  • THe 429 SCJ was a stout motor but could not touch a 426 Hemi. The speed channel did a test 2 years ago where they bored these big blocks 30 over for clearance to see what the real numbers were.

    429SCJ 550 HP@5500rpm

    426 Hemi 800 HP@5500rpm

AS good as the 429 was, I still would take a 351 Cleveland over one anyday.

    Beautiful car!!!

  • @tcbtn1 The 426 Hemi in the 1965 Dodge Coronet you are referring to and the one tested at 800 H.P. was built for drag racing and was not availible to the general public.

  • Always nice to see these cars even if they are not completely correct. As rare as these cars are they are a blast to drive and live up to the Winged Footed God Mercury was named for.

  • Very nice car I have a 70 base model 429 4 speed Cyclone. Do you know where I could find a dash pad with the gauge holes?

  • I think i have found one of these sitting in a feild about 5 miles from my house but it's going to be tuff to get to,lot of weeds! Will let you know what i find.

  • I'm answering "buixrule's" questions for the owner of this beauty:

"The scoop is from a Cougar Eliminator -or- the '69 Cyclone CJ. The Prototype Spoiler HAD a similar scoop. The factory Spoilers did not come with this scoop. I personally think it looks better. No! This has factory Ford dealer-option Dixco hood tachometer with logo. Pontiac tachs totally different. I have '69 & 70 Ford high performance catalogs that list this tach and show the illustrations."

  • 429SJC engine was every bit as strong as a Hemi.

  • Am I going nuts or is that a 70 Mustang scoop and a Pontiac hood tach? Was the hood tach an option on the 70 stang or cyclone?
