doctor i have a keratosis pilaris in my arm and my cheeks. im just a teenager. what chemical exfoliants do i use? please respond. i realy need it. please please do respon
Hey you posted this almost 2 years ago but uhm if you can reply i want some answers. I get red bumps on my skin when i sweat or exercise. Im 15 almost 16 and whenever im in P.E and if i try to play anykind of sports, i run for about 2-5 minutes and my body and arms start to itch. When i look at my skin i see red bumps on it goes away after like 30 minutes if i stop running/exercising. Is this heat rash or Chicken skin? OH and i get it on my thighs too but not alot. if you answer this then Thanks
I have had this problem on my upper arms for years. I have recently started taking NutraSea fish oil (3-1 potency) for another issue and in the meantime have seen tremendous changes to my "chicken skin". Overall my arms are softer, and less itchy and red.
doc i got small itchy bumps on my upper arms, forearms and inner tie iv started taking amino acid 1900 for about two weeks before that. can that be the problem ?
Im 28 almost 29 and all of a sudden had theese pop up on my arms! they are so very itchy, it drives me crazy. Is it okay to use my proactive on my arms?
do u think there is any way of getting rid of kp or making it less noticeble because i have it nd i feel insecure wearing shorts its embaresing and ugly please respond! thanks
I use a special lotion twice a day, I use loofahs both dry and in the shower, yet nothing has changed in over a month, except my skin is a little bit smoother. But the little red dots are still there (they've spreaded over the years, now it's not only my upper arms but also my legs).
Is it bad that I have some of them( a little amount scatered on the top of the legs) and on my back and on the chest and belly? The biggest amount is on my arms.
i have chicken skin, im a teen, the bumps are on my arms, and face im using AmLactin and its kinda working, i thought you could NEVER treat it and make it go away completly thanks now i know better ;)
Hey I will be soon making vid about kp and the treatments I try..so if you have any tips about what you are doing with your kp leave a comment or message on my channel and Join Mission KP!!
I've had KP for as long as I can remember and still have it at 24. I'm into FITNESS and BODYBUILDING and have been accused of steroids, etc. I just found out that these bumps were from KP and it's a big relief it was not some hormone problem from working out. So for you fellow BODYBUILDERS with these bumps... don't worry.
howcome nobody ever wants to give a cure. thats with every disease, always no cure. i bet theres a scheme behind this. i want these fugly bumps gone & dont have the patience or strength to scrub my whole body for a hour each day!
mate, ive tryed this for years and no success, nothing seems to stop it. when you say chemicals/scrubbing what do you suggest? the thing is ive squeezed some big ones i got and got alot of markings, i still have some now and there not going away, ive tryed alot and to be honest when i use a scrub to scrub them off it just provokes me more to pick at them. in detail. what do i need?
@ddoggs2008 Hot showers can be a cause of that condition, but I can't provide any diagnosis over the Internet. However, more information on why hot water causes dry and itchy skin can be found in the DermTV episode titled, "Prevent Dry Skin by Avoiding Very Hot Water" (unfortunately I can't find a link but you should be able to find it by entering the title in the YouTube search field).
@dermTVdotcom hey doc umm i have hives but i had them for a couple of months already ;/ i need help and there in spots that u dont want them to be in it itches like crazy
@ddoggs2008 when i take hot showers it does make my chicken skin itch WAY WORSE. i use my proactive on my arms and it seems to make them fade a bit .. but it comes back a few hours later.. IT ITCHES SO SO BAD I WANT TO RIP MY SKIN OFF MY ARMS! i think im going crazy lol
okay look, i have bumpy spots at the back of my upper arms and legs. i have had them from a long time now. i thought they would go away. but im not sure if its chicken skin. because im not sure what chicken skin looks like. so can i get a visual look at chicken skin. and i tought they were pimples so i started popping and scratching them. but now they look worse. ive tried using proactive on them and nothing works! can you please tell me whats going on! p.s some of my family members have it to.
Hello Doctor, I just subscribed, loving all your Helpful videos, I have a question about this topic, i have the same Chiken skin problem, but not the itchy type, like, my skin looked like that since i was young, i am a brunette and have wite bumps all over my arms and chest as well, but no ithiness or redness, does the solution you provided work for my case as well? thanks in advance =)
My dermatologist gave me the cream it got rid of the keratin alot but since I got it about a year ago i use to pick at it (NEVER DO THAT) and have tiny temporary scars that im using shea butter to get rid of the redness and marks and its working ill be ready for summer by then :)
I got this when I was younger so i didnt know what it was. I scratched them causing scars which make them look worse. will exfoliator help the scars or is there a way i can get rid of them?
@BenefitBabe08 What you are calling scars is probably brown pigmentation from the injury of the scratching. If so, search YouTube for the DermTV episode titled, "How to Remove Brown Spots", for help with your problem. If they are truly scars, meaning depressions or elevations in the skin, then see your dermatologist for treatment options.
@BenefitBabe08 i got the same thing, my mums a skin specialist and what you need to do is got some sun on them ( vitamin d ) it draws pigmentation up. and you can get laser if you want.
Hi, everyone. I just wanted to let u know, there is still a chance to cure Keratosis Paliris. And u can b a part of it! All you have to do is just sign the Keratosis Pilaris Research Petition (if u havn't done so already). All you have to do is just sign your name (last name is optional), u can add a description (optional), and add your email adress( invisible to the public). If you can't find it online, I HAVE A LINK TO IT ON MY PAGE, LOCATED IN THE COMMENT TAB/SECTION. Please sign.
One chemical exfoliant that I know of is Clinique's clarifying lotion 2. It does contain alcohol and is drying, so I would follow it immediately by a lotion. I think I will try it.
@myraiveth87: You can get chemical exfoliants at your local drug store or on the Internet. In addition, below each video pertaining to exfoliation that is on the DermTV website, there are related products which include exfoliating products.
@icic5: The exfoliants will be of some help for the darkness (assuming it is Keratosis Pilaris), but you may need to also use a bleach. In order to get the best results, I suggest a consultation with a dermatologist.
@Cecilia149: A very small amount of an exfoliant should be used to treat Keratosis Pilaris and the skin of the arms is more resistant to irritation than the skin of the face, and thus it is okay to exfoliate KP-affected areas twice a day. It is also very unlikely that you'll thin your skin, but I direct my patients to curtail their treatment if irritation develops.
Ah I went to my dermatologist and she just gave me some cream. Thanks doc for another thing to help out my bumps ^^ I'll be trying this more often now ^^
@tinaluvsbunny: The itchy, bumpy, red skin of Keratosis Pilaris is a very distinct rash and is different from regular eczema. I'll be airing episodes on eczema later this month due to popular demand so stay tuned!
@xvirisvx: Salicylic can work but glycolic seems to work much better, perhaps because the maximum strength of salicylic is usually 2% which just may not be strong enough.
