It should also be noted that, when sleeping or unconscious (As can be seen in a few episodes, I know one of them was in the episode with the episode with ChiliDog/WolfWrath), his eyes become a rather dim yellow. As such, some fans believe that his eyes will become completely black upon his death. (That brings up the question, how long do these guys live? Meta Knight's many thousands of years old, from what I remember '>_>)

I think they do that not only for the dramatic effect, but also to let us know that he is talking. It may seem obvious enough, but it's often important to make things a little bit easier for audiences by including little things like that as well.

personally i think if kirby and meta knight were related they would be brothers. i can't imagine meta knight as kirby's father. yes, in the games u see meta knight without his mask and he does looks like kirby. but in the anime there is sir arthur and his gang and it DOES look like they r the same species as kirby. i think meta knight isn't kirby's dad. besides he could of know him in other ways. like he could of found him or the son of his dead bff and sent kirby off in to space. who knows. :S
