Marcus is actually in a coma involving all the other drivers and had probably suffered from personality issues beforehand. I truly wish Boss characters when unlocked remain the same size as when you fight them. Dark Tooth is much smaller when playable, same goes for Minion in TM Black.

@maelstrom8300 That would be pretty awesome, but I think it's to balance out the game mechanics. A bigger vehicle would take more damage due to its large size and more attacks would hit it better. Plus, they'd have to give it a shit ton of hp to balance that factor out and that wouldn't be as fair for other drivers.
They are the same peron just split personalities. The car in front of them (Tower Tooth) is a demonic and possesed ice cream store that did something to split them apart. since they are the same person, they instantly clicked and started driving Tower Tooth.
Ok, here are my theories. Take them for what they are. I think they're trying to tell us that Marcus Kane has multiple personalities but is unaware of this fact. One of the personalities is always in control, but never at the same time. Needles Kane is the self-projection of his other personality--much like in Fight Club. So, in essence, Sweet Tooth is imaginary. Calypso is aware of this fact, and makes point of it in Roadkill's ending in TM: Head-On
In Twisted Metal 1, Needles is in control. Charlie Kane(Yellow Jacket) is the father of Marcus/Needles.
Twisted Metal 2: Marcus makes his debut, and obviously has mental problems. He's convinced that the World is a nightmare. It is not yet hinted that he and Needles are one in the same, but you can make the connection since Marcus can't make sense of anything.
Charlie Kane(Yellowjacket) is brought back as Dark Tooth. This is important later.
Twisted Metal: Black takes place in the twisted psyche of Marcus Kane, but while the Needles personality is dominant. Hence why Marcus is an enemy boss and Sweet Tooth is the star and focus of the entire game. This is learned through an easter egg in the game.
Finally in Head-On, which is the direct sequel to TM2, Marcus once again comes back and it is finally revealed that he and Needles are the same person. Calypso continuously refers to Marcus as Needles in Roadkill's ending, and you can see Marcus's reflection in Sweet Tooth's ending--which confirms that Sweet Tooth is a mental projection--which also explains how he has fire for hair and pointed teeth.
In Head-On, Dark Tooth is the result of Marcus having a mental breakdown and having some wicked fusion with Needles.
Tower Tooth in Head-On is the scrapped parts of TM2 Dark Tooth turned into a restaurant that is overcome with the vengeful spirit of Charlie Kane when Marcus/Needles is killed. The head is the same, and also the color scheme.
This ending in particular is the result of another breakdown where Marcus is transported to the Black universe and finally meets Needles.

Tower Tooth was built as a new final boss by Calypso. It gave Dark Tooth its prize by splitting up Marcus and Needles Kane, and having them become the new bosses. Notice it has the giant head from TM2's Dark Tooth.
Guys just so you know, TM:Black has nothing to do with this Twisted Metal. It's a WHOLE other game set in a different universe. Head-on is considered to be the REAL TM3, and as such, does not relate to anything in Black

I guess you could say that. Although Head-On is the only one as far as I know where Marcus and Needles are the same person. In all the others, Marcus and Needles are brothers.
Here let me help everyone out. In TM 1 YellowJacket is Charlie Kane. Sweet Tooth is his son and dies during the Twisted Metal 1 contest. Charlie goes insane once he realizes that he helped kill his own son and returns to take Minion's place in TM2 as Dark Tooth.
In TM 2, Sweet Tooth is brought back to life (hence the fire hair) to help Minion take down Calypso. When ST is killed a 2nd time by Marcus Kane, Dark Tooth attempts to avenge his son's death but fails and is killed in the process
Marcus Kane discovers that Twisted Metal is, in fact, a dream and wakes up from a coma where the other contestants are sleeping around him. As he leaves the hospital, Calypso is heard laughing in the background.
Twisted Metal Black (my opinion, the true 3rd part of the game) Takes place in the REAL world that Marcus has woken up in. He discovers that Twisted Metal is, in fact, real as is the horrors of Sweet Tooth. He is recruited by Calypso as Minion.
Marcus is convinced that everything around him is somehow connected to Sweet Tooth but that is mainly due to the fact that he is slowly slipping into insanity.
Twisted Metal: Head On, in my opinion, remains in the dream world hence that it is not cannon to the storyline per-say.
According to Minion in TMB, all of the events in the game are made up thanks to Sweet Tooth's sick mind. So Marcus is probably dreaming up the whole "Twisted Metal" franchise as he slips in and out of reality...he got into a traffic accident in TM2, remember? And those invovled appeared as drivers?
So it stands to reason that he's been dreaming up the tournament...and in doing so created another personality...SWEET TOOTH.
Marcus Kane isn't the Minion that appeared in TM 2 & 3 That was the demon Minion. I'm guessing Calypso sent Minion to hell. I think Marcus was just thinking he is Sweet Tooth, but it was all in his head during the events of Twisted Metal: Head on. Or maybe they are bros, but he becomes violent like Sweet Tooth so Calypso calls him Needles because he started killing just like his brother. This leads them to believe they're apart of each other. I don't this is very confusing too

Twisted Metal: Black takes place in the twisted psyche of Marcus Kane, but while the Needles personality is dominant. Hence why Marcus is an enemy boss and Sweet Tooth is the star and focus of the entire game. This is learned through an easter egg in the game.

Finally in Head-On, which is the direct sequel to TM2, Marcus once again comes back and it is finally revealed that he and Needles are the same person. Calypso continuously refers to Marcus as Needles in Roadkill's ending, and you can see Marcus's reflection in Sweet Tooth's ending--which confirms that Sweet Tooth is a mental projection--which also explains how he has fire for hair and pointed teeth.

In Head-On, Dark Tooth is the result of Marcus having a mental breakdown and having some wicked fusion with Needles.
Tower Tooth in Head-On is the scrapped parts of TM2 Dark Tooth turned into a restaurant that is overcome with the vengeful spirit of Charlie Kane when Marcus/Needles is killed. The head is the same, and also the color scheme.
This ending in particular is the result of another breakdown where Marcus is transported to the Black universe and finally meets Needles.

Tower Tooth was built as a new final boss by Calypso. It gave Dark Tooth its prize by splitting up Marcus and Needles Kane, and having them become the new bosses. Notice it has the giant head from TM2's Dark Tooth.

Guys just so you know, TM:Black has nothing to do with this Twisted Metal. It's a WHOLE other game set in a different universe. Head-on is considered to be the REAL TM3, and as such, does not relate to anything in Black

I guess you could say that. Although Head-On is the only one as far as I know where Marcus and Needles are the same person. In all the others, Marcus and Needles are brothers.

Here let me help everyone out. In TM 1 YellowJacket is Charlie Kane. Sweet Tooth is his son and dies during the Twisted Metal 1 contest. Charlie goes insane once he realizes that he helped kill his own son and returns to take Minion's place in TM2 as Dark Tooth.
In TM 2, Sweet Tooth is brought back to life (hence the fire hair) to help Minion take down Calypso. When ST is killed a 2nd time by Marcus Kane, Dark Tooth attempts to avenge his son's death but fails and is killed in the process

Marcus Kane discovers that Twisted Metal is, in fact, a dream and wakes up from a coma where the other contestants are sleeping around him. As he leaves the hospital, Calypso is heard laughing in the background.
Twisted Metal Black (my opinion, the true 3rd part of the game) Takes place in the REAL world that Marcus has woken up in. He discovers that Twisted Metal is, in fact, real as is the horrors of Sweet Tooth. He is recruited by Calypso as Minion.

Marcus is convinced that everything around him is somehow connected to Sweet Tooth but that is mainly due to the fact that he is slowly slipping into insanity.
Twisted Metal: Head On, in my opinion, remains in the dream world hence that it is not cannon to the storyline per-say.

According to Minion in TMB, all of the events in the game are made up thanks to Sweet Tooth's sick mind. So Marcus is probably dreaming up the whole "Twisted Metal" franchise as he slips in and out of reality...he got into a traffic accident in TM2, remember? And those invovled appeared as drivers?
So it stands to reason that he's been dreaming up the tournament...and in doing so created another personality...SWEET TOOTH.

Marcus Kane isn't the Minion that appeared in TM 2 & 3 That was the demon Minion. I'm guessing Calypso sent Minion to hell. I think Marcus was just thinking he is Sweet Tooth, but it was all in his head during the events of Twisted Metal: Head on. Or maybe they are bros, but he becomes violent like Sweet Tooth so Calypso calls him Needles because he started killing just like his brother. This leads them to believe they're apart of each other. I don't this is very confusing too
