  • The music is not played well, sorry.

  • Interesting, despite this piece was not made for ballet. Also, in this performance the the sonata was cut about 6 variations of the central musical theme, but however I liked so much such a good interpretation. nIce party, definetely.

  • There was times when music was music and dance was a dance!

    Now it's all about bass&ass...

  • Yes, I am intending to have such kind of party one day too. God help us

  • I wish there was a higher resolution version..

  • his wig didnt fall off with those twist jumps.. i am now more into the dance than the music now..this is rare show..

  • The dancing the guys did looked to energetic to be something appropriate for a gentleman. Nice clothes, though.

  • What the CRAP happened to these mens' balls? We should start a public announcement fund.

  • wonderful stuff.they should make period costume compulsory for the audience though, especially in such an amazing setting.rental of 17th-18th century togs included in the ticket price perhaps?

  • @musicmansixty7 Agreed....excellent idea! My lady would look fabulous all trussed and powered. Just don't ask me to dance.....that would spoil it for everyone.

  • @musicmansixty7 Agreed....excellent idea! My lady would look fabulous all trussed and powdered. Just don't ask me to dance.....that would spoil it for everyone.

  • Okay seriously, Is the style of dance shown Italian baroque as apposed to the french style?

  • uhoh. now I know from where Handel stole his sarande!

  • bravo!!!

  • Maybe better in flamenco dance style!!!...

  • isn't this song off a movie?

  • @BREEZEI very popular song...i would be surprised it if wasnt on many movies

  • aw ok, cheers hahaha I did not know that

  • @BREEZEI yes, a few, the addams family for one when wednesday and pugsley do hamlet...

  • not being rude... just new to this whole baroque thing. but does this merit hard work and style? I could do this just prancing and gliding in my living room, I love dance, but I am no professional. Do people seriously go to Baroque dance classes?

  • @saffieyz Yes. In the baroque period, there were entire handbooks written on the subject, one being the Beauchamp Feuillet, which contains instructions for over 300 dances. Many of the steps and positions found in Baroque dance are preserved in ballet, which came after. Modern baroque dances are partly reconstructions, as many of the notations in old handbooks are not clear, and not all modern baroque dancers agree on their meaning.

  • men's suites are so boring these days. why can't we wear clothes like that to the office? I mean without getting gawks?

  • @mverobeach1 I agree : )

  • :-) I like the anachronism of the costumes and the video camera technology. :-)

  • Totally lovin' the music.

  • Absolument magnifique.

  • La Follia is a very famous theme of Baroque Era, also considered by Corelli in his Op. 5 (violin and b.c.). This one is the Vivaldi's version, for two violins and b.c.

  • its actually by corelli...... but very interesting

  • @awsomel it's actually not by Corelli.

  • @awsomel

No, this is actually by Vivaldi. :)

  • A folia basically means a mad dance so you could put dance in there although it is not necesary.

  • 5*****

  • It's Vivaldi, pls :-)

  • I'd like to have a party like this one a day! :(

  • @newFranzFerencLiszt As long as I'm one of the musicians!

  • @newFranzFerencLiszt Moi, aussi, mon ami, moi aussi.

Unfortunately today's culture SUCKS BIG TIME compared to the elegant cultures of our forefathers...We need to bring it back ASAP. In JESUS' name.

  • @ProphetLuong This is hardly the culture of our forefathers. MOST of our forefathers lived far below the sphere of the priviliged, very small minority that enjoyed this culture. A few of our forefathers might have been exposed to this culture as servants to the rich who enjoyed it.

  • @newFranzFerencLiszt

    Did u mean :)

  • jojojo, el secreto esta en la peluca.

  • Beautiful presentation ! Thanks.

  • Is this piece meant for opera? Was it during the ballet ban?

  • Ohhh... Yo crei que vivaldi era de Italia!

Wow! realmente... algun dia quisiera vailar asi!! =)

  • Comment removed

  • nein, ist ursprünglich von Italien.

  • Vivaldi was much in the style of Elegance and Agility. I am fond of his way of composition that favored the elegance and agility within dance. Thank you.

  • how can the audience remain seated? ... stand up and join in!!!

  • Since Vivaldi!s time, there were Moon Walk dance

  • @laresoldo39 -lol

  • @laresoldo39 : Or... The Madison ? ;)

Sorry, I prefer the Corelli's version, without dancers ! ^^

  • cool

  • haha great song but the dance lol

  • cool

  • absolument superbe..Merci

  • i was joking keep your wig on

  • Why there are so many people saying that "La Follia" was composed by A. Corelli? A "Follia" is a dance as a giga, corrente, sarabanda..., with some ostinate bass, like "Bergamasca", "Passacaglia", "Romanesca" or "Ciacona".

  • indeed, the follia di spagna [complete name] it's a very old theme probably from spain or the "new world" , probably invented in the 1400, that many artist used for a lot of variations. Just as merula did with is ciaccona, but with another theme

  • this is corelli actually :P

  • This is Vivaldi sonata opus 1 N°12

  • Acangelo Corelli, pls... :-)

  • I thought Francesco Geminiani composed La Follia after Corelli's 12 Concerto Grossi?

  • Questa è la sonata N° 12 in Re minore "La Folia" (RV 63) da Antonio Vivaldi.

This is Sonata N°12 in D minor "La Follia" by Antonio Vivaldi.

  • ... great dance, perfect sourroundings ... does a dance for Lully's - Armide exist? Thx and greetz from Berlin, Ed

  • this is not vivaldi.. this version is one from Antonio Salieri.. Variazioni sulla La Follia... and the original piece is from Archangelo Corelli called La Follia...

  • No, this really is Vivaldi's version

  • La follia is a Portuguese melody fom XV century. There are several variations of it: Corelli, Vivaldi, aendel among others

  • ¿Alguien sabe cómo se llama la rubia? Me encanta como baila

  • Great! Once I had the chance assisting one of those concerts, with professional dancers. It was amazing.

  • steps are so aculate...

  • Jean Baptiste Lully is the best!!!

  • What the music !!!

    It s really fantastic !!!

  • did they really dance like that to vivaldi?i dont think so

  • beautifull!!

  • ballet (L)

  • La Follia -regardless of which version you listen to - is remarkably moving, considering how simple the tune actually is. It is capable - with variations in tempo and key - of touching on all human emotions. No wonder it's been popular for 300 or more years. - Hans

  • wooooooooooooooooooow where is this place?

    can i go there?

i want to see it by myself

    luuuuuuuuuv that style

  • I would be grateful for any information on the marvelousl costumes worn by the female dancers which contributed so much to creating a wonderful period atmosphere.

  • whadda hell??

  • Beautiful!

Is It From Vivaldi or Corelli ??

  • Corelli

  • It's Vivaldi's Follia.Corelli's sound a bit different. Many composers have done variations on the Follia and this one is by Vivaldi

  • and the two versions are pretty similar. this one is definitely the vivaldi version though.

  • It's just so beautiful.

    FANTASTICO

  • excellent performance, They're sooo talented.

  • Increible.

    Was in Versalles?????

  • No, this was in Warsaw in Royal Castle :)

  • nice music

  • I played this with a chamber group of six plus a pianist at a music camp last week, and. . .I'm sorry, I hated it. I play cello, and it was probably one of the most boring songs I've played. It's so repetitive! We only did 8 of the 20 variations, but I did get to play the 14th variation, which actually has some moving 8th notes. Sorry, guys.

  • that's because you played it on a cello and with a piano. Try playing it on a viol with a bunch more strings and then try improvising a bit. Then it is worth playing....or buy a really good recording with an original instrument and you'll think different! Try Jordi Savall...

  • simplemente bello

  • where was this presentation????

  • Beautiful..beautiful.

  • i remember when i played this on the violin a few years back... it was a good piece

  • Some variations are unfortunately missing, but that what can be heard is pretty good.

  • I get the sense that these dancers are really recreating the baroque style of ballet authentically. Very enjoyable!

  • Too bad they edited out some of the best parts. Very nice nonetheless.

  • It is a Spanish dance that there have adapted composers like Marin Marais, Corelli, Vivaldi, Lully, etc.

In this time it was very common to adapt popular topics, as the "Remix" of nowadays.

    ...............

  • this is the song alexander mcqueen used for one of his fashion shows =] beautiful song with a beautiful collection

  • Wish the quality was better, but fantastic job none-the-less!

  • so beautiful that baroque danse

  • No, this trio sonata rendering is from Vivaldi.

  • The tune was done by many a baroque composer. To my knowledge nobody really knows who composed the original tune. It is late medieval ~ early renaissance.

  • It is originally Spanish.

  • Doesn't sound like Vivaldi much at all.

  • I'm not quite sure, but either the "La Folia" theme was comceived by Marin marais or he was the first/one of the first to bring it into instrumental music.

  • La Folia was an old spanish folk melody that many baroque composers used for variation treatment. The earliest treatment is not Marais' but by Juan del Enzina in 1520. More recent examples include Beethoven hiding the theme in the Andante Con Motto of his 5th symphony.

  • Lully was the first one to bring it into instrumental music, meaning as to be known as a dance by the royalty. Marais, who was Lully's apprentice for some time, made the Folia variations from the standard theme Lully composed for winds and strings.

  • the composer for this piece it's arcangelo corelli, NOT ANTONIO VIVALDI

  • Actually the composer for this set of variations is Antonio Vivaldi. The Follia's melody comes from a hispanic-portuguese dance, and the melody was used by many composers to write sets of variations on the Follia. Other composers such as Bach, Geminiani, Lully, used the Follia for Variations.

  • I think Corelli also has a version of La Follia.

  • he has indeed but this one is Vivaldi's one

  • Corelli's is the better one. It's more defined in its variations. It's also for solo violin.

  • Yeah, I'm learning Corelli's right now and I love it to death. I'm not surprised I like it so much though. I've always been die-hard Baroque.

  • I prefer Marais variations. Although, all the other variations are wonderful, and its how many variations came from a single work which is also a "Variation" of the typical spanish folia.

  • Unfortunately, they do not play the entire piece. You can hear the complete piece on my channel if you are interested.

  • it sounds like jean baptiste lully

  • Searching in the internet I found J. B. Lully has actually written the first version of this piece.

  • quality!

  • :] the dancing is humorous and good. Give the sense of what it was really meant for.

  • Corelli's is probably the best. Vivaldi comes in a close second. It has so much flair, drama and passion. Never gets boring. I think they skipped some of the variations which is too bad. I have the full version on my channel.

  • Why you didn't play SO MANY interesting variations? I would like to listen it...

  • I simply agree with you about the follia,i'm also trying to compose some variations on that tune, anyway whenever I post them here in youtube,i was wonderin' if you would like to see them, because I studied some counterpoint and harmony by myself so...

  • The Follia's theme is so dramatic, I love this variation

  • Big group for a trio sonata... played beautifully though.

  • Bravo!!!

  • Follia is one of the nicest tunes ever...
