average walk speed of 1.8kph... that's piss weak, carrying a 20kg backpack I still average 4kph... me thinks some improvements need to be made for real commercial success0.
@0tothezenith Well it's not designed for people like you, it's designed for people with disabilities think about the market if they can make versions of these that can make people in wheelchairs walk
@shinsoe Actually you are sounding pretty retarded, this is a major breaktrough in robokinetics. HAL can increase strenght, can make disabled and elderly people walk, it's controlled by brain pulses. Sure it doesn't look good now, it's the first of it's kind. How did the first computer look like? But I'm sure you'd rather give your money to your government paying wellfare to lazy shits.
1. Japanese are way beyond Americans in this stuff
2. People on youtube are incapable of reading descriptions (I would say illiterate, but they managed to type complaints, so I suppose ignorance is a larger factor than lack of education)
And MapleLeafAce; Japanese R&D is the reason you have flat screen tv's, remote controls, electric toothbrushes, MP3 players, Laptops, etc. So wake up and be appreciative. As for laziness, look at the obesity rates of North America and compare it to the rest of the world (start with Japan if you like), and then eat your words. So small-minded, I hope you are not Canadian, you would give us a bad name.
why comment if you got nothing useful to say? Clearly this is a very innovative creation that will benefit those; whom suffered from spinal chord injury, stroke, dystonia, or any other kind of degenerative muscle disorder, accident or injury. If you want to see someone whom has suffered from one of the conditions using the device then all you have to do is search, instead of making snide remarks because you are too lazy to look.
People with no physical issue make a mockery of inventions like this. I pray no such injury can cause you to un-freeze your frozen brain. I am a paraplegic since 1979. I would give one of my arm, my kidney, an eye, to have one of this. Thanks for posting.
I wonder if they will implement this technology to law enforcement in the near future, so that cops can run faster and jump higher and basically have more ability when they walk a beat in metropolitan areas.
@forinner Clearly, they are intended for assisting people with muscular degeneration problems that would need crutches or a wheel chair who would rather walk instead.
The demonstration would be more meaningful if it was done by paraplegics, but plainly they're just people wearing a suit. I could dicky something like that up in the garage myself for a person who can already walk.
From the comments on here I guess not to many people read science fiction or they would know where this " gadget" could go once it's developed. They're like " That gadget with four tires and a gasoline engine is stupid. I'm keeping my horse." lol
Ummm... How do you know they're not just walking with plastic attached? I mean, the technology of walking up stairs with technology is only beginning, as you can see with many advanced robots: the technology must pause for a few seconds, align with preset markers, then use advanced stability control. This is not realistic.
@vamtheanomaly LOL, would you like to back that up with some evidence? nah seriously i know they aren't but i've never met one in person that isn't an arsehole.
other than walking like dumbasses, what do we have to gain here? Can it jump really high or something? Does it just walk for me if im lazy? Unless these people are handicapped- i dont see whats to be impressed
what is the point of that, other than making you look like a plonker!, what does it do!, help people who can already walk, make something useful for a change!
To my knowledge these are being used for physical rehabilitation, for people recovering from an injury, or disease. I see these suits getting much more common in the future, in Japan at least. The unfortunate name of the company, Cyberdine Corporation, will probably scare the increasingly paranoid american public. Hope I'm wrong on that one, guess we'll wait and see.
To me this looks like a bunch of people walking around with braces on their legs. I expected the video to say something like: "ALL THESE PEOPLE ARE PARALYZED!" or something to that effect.
@Gamewizard71 it works by detecting the electrical impulse sent down the spine to the torso that would go to the legs but ends in the lower back where the spinal cord was damaged. These do work very well even with out a direct connection, mostly because they do have one, just read through the skin rather than by being hard wired into the brain. even have been able to give the feeling of touch to an artificial hand, and foot amazing things are happening.
@Gamewizard71 a direct connection to the brain isn´t necessary, the controller uses signals that come from the brain to trigger the muscles, these signals are measurable in all parts of the human body. The U.S. Army uses the same technology for the H.U.L.C. System.
@BrandNewSongz What kinda retarded question is that? You you ask the same thing about a wheelchair? Christ, peoples stupidity on the internet never stops to amaze me.
I don't know... I think they would be able to move alot better without those things. Check out the exoskeleton the US army has; they actually show how it is useful. I think Japan's futuristic tech is way over rated.
@KahleelMurray Pretty sure it only takes input. It simply detects what your brain is sending to your muscles and mimics that to provide you with mechanical power instead of muscle power. It ain't meant to take over your brain. This kind of stuff can be really handy in construction or search/rescue under rubble. Things that require heavy lifting basically.
yeah, this isn't for disabled people, at least not yet. it's gonna help people with weak legs or fat people get around. people who are able to send signals to their legs, this thing doesn't carry you it just moves according to your body's electrical pulses and such.
