What sort of tyres do these guys use for this type of race? Special snow tyres with spikes or what?

They use fatter tires with mountain bike type treads, though I think some use less aggressive treads, especially if it is dry. You can see them dismounting on that one corner because the tires would have slid out if they rode it.
