Most people can't see past their own nose. KOF is bigger on a global scale than SF. SF isn't even played in South America or Asia compared to KOF.

In Japan both are appreciated, with SF having a nod because of SFIV, but Fatal Fury and Art of Fighting were HUGE in Japan during their prime, more so than even SF2 at times, KOF had a rise during the Marvel/SF3 days too (Until 3s).

Personally, I view SNK and Capcom pretty equally as I feel both have produced extremely high quality fighting games.

However, Mortal Kombat, is by far, without a doubt, the worst fighting game franchise I've ever played. The game engine is horrendous, the controls have always felt extremely sluggish, and it isn't as deep as a true fighting game.There is a clear reason why Mortal Kombat has never been viewed as a serious competitve fighting game.
