To be faster Mike actually "double strums" the string(s). He is plucking once normally (pulling the string up) and then actually hits the same string again with the back of his fingers. He is doing this rapidly and I believe that he invented this as he told me that no-one else he knows does this.

I'm sure he can play fast live, but not like this video makes it out to be. Or at least play this fast and sound good. The motions of his arms and fingers, all choppy and static should tip off to it being sped up. In normal speed his movements would be more fluid cuz thats how limbs work.
