I don't speak German very well but I caught one thing that the announcer said- he says that maybe today's composers would benefit from a stay in a 'konzert lager'...so, my question is, is that a *deliberate* pun on "konzentration lager"?

Several of the various clips in this 'montage' ARTE video can generally be found elsewhere herein YT. E.g., the Marika Rökk bit from "Die Frau meiner Träume" can be viewed at: watch?v=51cs8ixBoyM or do a search for: "Marika Rökk - Die Frau meiner Träume - 9"...that's in "marikarokk"'s channel, which is dedicated to Marika...for all of you fanatical Marika-fans (like me, lol ;-D ). Prost!, y'all, from Mike der Rousel12 =D
A masterful and very moving job of editing together newsreel footage, advertising commercials and a splashy color dance sequence from a Nazi morale-boosting musical comedy starring Hungarian hoofer Marika Roekk. As this dance scene was being shot in 1944, bombs were raining down on German cities, causing delays in production. Goebbels objected to the revealing dress, saying no proper German woman would wear such a revealing outfit. But since she was Hungarian playing a Spaniard, he okayed it.
I second your initial comments, whomever did all of that work really did a great job. Thanks for the background on Marika and the movie too, at least I appreciate it. ;-D =) Where was this flick filmed, do you know? While watching clips of it I got thinking, "damn, they could have been blown-up trying to do all of this." :-O They EARNED! their pay for their work, NO DOUBT ABOUT THAT. :-|
I seem to recall it was filmed in Prague. The UFA studios at Babelsberg on the outskirts of Berlin were pretty much in a shambles by mid-1944. This movie was a Christmas holiday box-office hit in Nazi Germany -- December 1944.
"Marikarokk" has virtually the whole film on his channel now. The outdoors scenes in it were filmed somewhere in the mountains and in heavy snow; so at least those parts were prob. done somewhere in Cent. Europe, maybe not far from Prague, as you say. Also, that makes me suspect that that filming was done in the Winter of '43-'44. This was prob. the main film Marika was working on at that time too; and the effects/strains of the war on Cent. Europe may have been light at that time also....
..."The Internet Movie Database" has the release date in Germany as 25 Aug. '44 (released in Sweden 22 Nov. '44); it may have been re-released again at Christmas time too. Whenever it was released in Ger. it was apparently a HUGE hit, like you say. :-) The Estonian musician Mart Sander says this about it: "It's reported that the orderly Germans occasionally stampeded the fellow citizens trying to get a ticket - such was the enthusiasm as the film opened in the late summer of 1944." {from: IMDb}
My uncle was in Ger. too at the release of this film; although he was an Amer.-P.O.W. in custody of the Heer! So, he didn't see the movie, lol. ;-D After the war the Brits., Americans, and Fren. apparently had little or no interest in it; but the Soviets seemingly took it up as a great work of art, carting it off to the U.S.S.R. (like they did with so many other Ger. things and folks :-\ ) as 'war-booty.' Thus, because of that, seemingly, the movie is bigger today east of Ger. than west of Ger.
It's a sad commentary, but here in the Eng.-speaking world only the tiniest group of persons (like me, e.g.) know of this movie or the likes of Marika Rökk. 'Tis a SHAME! too, methinks, because in MY mind, she ranks right up there with folks like Marlene Dietrich, Ginger Rogers, et al. as one of the GREATEST! entertainers of ALL TIME! =)
