My question was more metaphysical and had to do with the intrinsic worth of different kinds of life. I guess that's a discussion that probably belongs in a college philosophy class and not on youtube. Oh, and I'm omnivorous too, but at the same time I respect life that isn't human. I don't think the two are contradictory.

I agree that there are lots of dogs that need homes. It's the same as having children. Why do people insist on having their own children when so many children in the world that do not have families and are waiting to be adopted... Thank God for shelters and orphanages and for the people who adopt them and accept them into their families and homes. I'm not one of those people :( I would like my own children and I am getting a puppy from a breeder. My own comments, makes me a bad person? x

@ShakespeareOfBorg I tried adopting from a shelter and they made the whole experience into a nightmare. All I wanted was to take a kitten home and they acted like I was trying to get a secret clearance! They need to be more user friendly if they want people to keep coming back!! I felt offended and treated like a bad person! Not ALL breeders are running puppy mills. You just have to pick and choose carefully.

@Lisajo1960 I agree that shelters and rescue centres need to make the process easier (although I think they should still do some checks so animals find suitable families). I never said breeders run puppy mills; breeders continue to produce pups even though there are animals dying in shelters because they can't find homes.
