My First Warhammer Fantasy Game: Gobbos Vs. Lizardmen

god i love 40k. played some fantasy at a friends. from what ive seen. 2 blocks line up opposite each other, approach straight forward and clash in middle, one unit fails morale test, destroyed, units next to them run, everyone runs. so f-ing boring. too linier for me, gotta love the 40k manouverability. not a troll, just my opinion.

It's sad to see that impressive mass of Wolfriders fleeing away and leaving the infantry alone. At least during my first match my skavens USED their lances against the Bretonnian cavalry. They later fled and were slayed due to the epic fail of their attacks (including the warlord's three ones), but the warp flamethrower and the warlock engineer revenged them decently.

Why is almost every Lizardmen list always the same? :s

Seriously, I know three different people that play Lizardmen, and the only different lists they have are their 2k lists. Even then, two of them are virtually the same.

And the models here look like it's the same as 2/3 of their 2k lists.

Is there really only 1 way to field Lizardmen?

What is the appeal of using miniatures and dice? Why not translate this to a computer game? You can have more epic battles for less money and space, and the computer does all the maths.

It's a social game more than anything else. It's about interacting with other people, laughing at silly rolls and showing off your painting skills. There really is something to be said about how a fully painted and ranked army looks.

Also, Warhammer for example, isnt just about playing the game, its about painting the miniatures and creating the terrain and all that crap. fantastic full gobbo army :-) just alot of leadership tests which can easily fail.

I play stunties slow pokes with alot of metal and stuffs.

And I also started a Salamander (Space marine) army which I find really intressting I like 40k more and more.

But with the 8th edition of fantasy out now I think my salamanders will be on hold.

Actually forget just the hordes, 8th is great for goblins, with the new/(old) system of percentages instead of slots you can really beef up your armies in the Lords/heroes/special/rare sections.

By the way if you wanted to, you could have a big 50 man horde unit of goblin spears as an anvil with probably a warboss and some bosses in it, then keep a unit of say 6 river trolls in 2 ranks of 3 as the hammer, trust me the new monster rules mean they rape units.

Rock Lobber first, shooting always range guess weapons first... Nice amount of Wolf riders, but it's better to field them in units of 10+, less panic tests due to shooting/magic.

I've also played recently my first game O&G. I'm a Wood Elf player, normally (I got wood... elves). It was against VC. Man, what a defeat. I had two blocks of 30 Night Gobbo's, (fanatic delivery system) , Two shamans, two chukkas, twenty archers and ten Black Orcs. It basically mirrored the Belgian campaign for WW2: RUN !!! Although you may rank your units after one another, but put the smallest in front, since the bigger don't need to test.

Never put more than 2 fanatics in a unit. 2 is more than enough. Else your units get too expensive. But in this army with only 1 night gob unit you can, but when you field more only use 2 per unit ;-)

Big hint for anyone wanting to play gobbos.

NIGHT GOBLINS!!! Have a higher leadership and can carry 3 fanatics per squad. They are the perfect charge destroyer, especially if they land short they will deal 2d6 strength 5 ap-1 hits (which will even kill knights).

In response to "is this normal for goblins?", My bro plays gobbos and anything is normal for gobbos. He squabbled 2in away from a flank charge. Had ALL his fanatics go backwards and kill him instead. Gobbos is the army you just play for fun and not winning (the normal way atleast) cause it either blows itself up or totally massacres the other side.

Oh and by the way you should think of getting night goblins since they have higher leader ship and can use fanatics (AAARGh hate fanatics)
