He's fucking trying. +10. Keep trying, you'll get there. It's always hard. Even the most cool guy gets speechless from time to time. Why the hell you wouldn't? just keep doing what you're doing. You're great.
I would say that the way you speak (body language, eye movement, head swinging back and forth) is creating an "anxious" mood to the listeners. If you just try to look into the camera (what I do is look right into the area between a person's eyes and upper nose), and pay attention to your head movement, then your speech will become less distraction. Then, you can work on speaking with your mouth "open wider". You tend to numble.. look down, left and right.. it's distracting.
yea i do that O_O and feel afraid when im lookin at people cant hold eye contact. talking is very difficult sometimes, with sa its the fear of judgement. its like trying to talk underwater lol... difficult.
its probably not the speech therapy thing but confdence that changes ur voice.
say 'normal'? get out more! Take control of ur life and form some good habits... ud be surprised how ez it is once u get going...lazinees breeds laziness thats all i hav 2 say
you should really look into body language or non verbal communication, tone of voice is part of this, but a larger portion is physical body expressions that portray what you are saying. for example people who have low confidence and or self esteem will widen their eyes, have a lack of eye contact and will decrease volume while talking. other people subconsciously read this and gather that the person is unsure of him or herself. so tone of voice is just a miniscule portion of social anxiety.
holy shit I totally widen my eyes when talking to people. I think its just that I want to look engaged or something but it really just hints at how aware I am of how im being perceived. Im so bored of being anxious
You should find a speech pathologist that deals exclusively with voice. There is a correleation. It is a conversion disorder that can usually be fixed in one or two sessions of voice (not speech) therapy.
i fully agree with you i have severe case of social phobia and when ever there is social satuation my voice tone changes and bearly you can hear my voice
There's definately a correlation. I think tone of voice is a confidence thing, we don't like to speak loudly, we're shy, and over time we learn to talk with this monotonous, low sound.
I'm not as bad as I used to be but definately I still have that problem. I never went to a therapist about it, but I often 'practice' conversations myself, try different tones of voice and try to sound more confident. It doesn't feel natural at first but over time it becomes easier and more natural.
... problems with which I'm sure you're familiar, as well. To me, your diction makes it obvious that you've no shortage as far as brain power goes; however, because I've similar difficulties, I'm sure I'm a bit more attuned to such things than many. As far as suggestions go, perhaps I'll try uploading a video... First and foremost, though, I'd suggest that you not worry so, so much about it, for the moment. Easier said than done, I know, but be assured that there are people out there(c)
I rather like the way you speak, personally; however, I can see how speaking so slowly and monotonously could be of detriment to the way people perceive you. I have a similar problem, myself - not so much with inflection, but with ... articulation. I can write my thoughts very easily, but when it comes to verbalization of my ideas, I turn into a stuttering fool. Obviously, this can lead to misunderstanding of my intent and underestimation of my intellect,(c)
YOU DONT Need a shrink Find out who you want to be and create that person. Get help from tony robbins, Brian tracey books and find out how to project your voice better! google it u can find something im shore. look up correct posture and breathing exersizes. you can get past it like i did! your on youtube you can find anything you need plus helpful websites. i hope u read this. So if u want to change bad enough commit to change and get through the bullshit!! you can do it! i did it !!
Try singing. Pick out fun music, turn it on loud to drown out your inhibitions, and sing in the shower or alone in the car. As you get better, turn the music down to hear your own voice. This is not easy at first! Basically I agree with the comment that the tone will improve on its own as the speaker gets more comfortable/confident, but practice imitating different emotions might be very helpful, and singing is the easiest way to do that.
I think you should go to the public library and find those voice tapes like the sound of your voice by Carl Fleming or if you can see a speech therapist in your area. These two are doable solutions. I also hears that counting 1 to 10 in variable pitch would help. Hope this help.
this is good because i have horrible body language (tall, gawky) and i think it contributes to my own anxiety. i think workshops/acting lessons could help you out, i'm going to look into it myself. if you can "act" you can adapt that routine into your personality until it feels natural.
I think you speak fine in your videos, you just always seem very serious. I'm like that too, but I try and smile and laugh a bit when I'm with other people, I think it helps.
Changes in you tone voice will happen NATURALLY when you are happier and more relaxed about life. Hopefully with the therapy you are getting this will happen soon and things will get a little easier.
I do not think that this will hold you back as I have met lots of people that are judged to be 'successful' that, in my opinion, have horrible voices. I would not even consider therapy for your voice, if I were you, as you do not need it.
There is nothing wrong with your tone of voice. I think that the people who told you this should have kept this to themselves, as there is probably little you can do about the voice that you were born with. They need to stop making unhelpful and possibly destructive personal comments. But, maybe they want to see and hear you in a happy frame of mind and voice. They might have thought that they were being helpful!
I can really relate, as I do to not like the sound of my voice (it's very soft and meek). Things have got easier over time, as I realised that have no choice but to accepted it, as I cannot change it. Oddly, my mum hates the sound of her voice too!! Inherited self criticism maybe. ***cont'd
Unfortunately there are some nasty people in this world. An example being - hendrixtattoo - I think he is an a****** for leaving that comment. Enough said, that person obviously does not have social anxiety/depression, but, he has very great faults/mental problems. Why put out this negative energy? ***continued
