  • Lets not go over the top here. He was a great actor and a decent hman being, but lets not get carried away. He had his faults like everyone else. He was very self righteous and could be a 'mean drunk'. He certainly had his faults. As for the 'most decent human being to set foot on planet Earth' that is just plain ridiculous to the point of absurdity. The problem with 'hero worship' is that we make these people to be what they are not. I am sure the Duke would be the first to agree. Keep it real.

  • Since I detest all wars for any reason, I will simply add to this conversation by saying that I knew Wayne's wife's OBGYN and was told that he delivered 9 children from Mrs Wayne. His only love whom he adored.

  • A man with the true Grain and Grit all American's should have. He was an actor we should all be the real deal.

  • The Late Great JOHN WAYNE.....

  • I know John wayne was not a real cowboy, and never wore a U.S. Milatary uniform for real. but he was an American icon.

  • @iceburg11 But that's your problem he was a cowboy for a little bit before he started acting and he was the Chuck Norris before there was one he was the original tough man and he did have True Grit.

  • @iceburg11 .......He sure was Icebeurg. He sure was! Semper Fi!

  • greaytest western heroe of all time classic big cowboy heroic and always fought fer the right way and stood up for the underdog. god bless john wayne americas real cowboy.

  • in all his films you got John Wayne

HE never changed and in my opinion can never be called a great actor

Look at John Mills Alec Guiness and alike he could not hold a light to them

but he was a good cowboy

  • Very nice job on the video!

I grew up watching Duke and a lot of other actors and considered them my heros.

I feel so bad for the kids today and them to come up, who the hell are they going to watch for roll models? A goofy japan made robot cartoons, it is a sad condition our codition is in. We need a new batch of Amercian heros in the worst way today. But i'm afraid we are screwed.

    thank you Duke

  • @dav1099 I certainly agree with that. Kids have nothing to look up to these days apart from a bunch of people that only look out for Number One. The Duke was an excellent role model.

  • amen brother.

it's gonna take God to get us out of this junk

If people will kneel and repent.

Ill have mercy on them and listen to them.

  • Very nice...... I grieve the loss of the United States as it once was..... May God save us.

  • John Wayne was an American hero!!

America needs God fearing men with TRUE GRIT to defeat the Islamic invaders who are trying to take away OUR freedom!!!

  • @truthjustice7878 If a John Wayne-type Republican were running for president, he would HAVE MY VOTE !!! I grow tired of these backward and crazy Islamic bastards. And I'm a registered Democrat, OK? RIP Duke.

  • Por siempre Duke. Esa vieja escuela de actores de USA que estan desapareciendo. Solo algunos como Bridges que prolongan el respeto para esa vieja escuela. Saludos desde Perú.

Duke Forever. That old school USA. players who are disappearing. Only a few such as Bridges to extend respect for that old school. Greetings from Peru.

  • Mon cow boy préféré

  • Beautiful! John Wayne was my mother's favorite actor & we had a running joke for years that he was my "real father".

  • Seriously...who dislikes this? Are they communists? IDK?

  • Outstanding site to an outstanding man - Thanks, this could not have been done better!

  • Outstanding site to an outstanding man - Thanks, could not have been better!

  • I grew up watching this man. At 60, I can say he is the embodiment of what every man wants to be, honest, dignified, willing to make the "tough" decision and stand by it. In short, his movie image was what we, as good men/women, aspire to be - Thanks Duke

  • Very well done, outstanding!

  • John Wayne is one of the best man who ever lived

  • he was the greatest actor that ever lived - played different roles in some of the biggest movies made by the some of the greatest directors - watch any movie of his today and thats what you think of him as being today - said some of the greatest lines - "that'll be the day " - breakout the winchesters" you could go on & on - yes a great actor and american.

  • Think he did a great job as an actor. Is there any truth to the Duke being a closet homo? Just wondering.

  • @MisterNuggs Of course not.

  • i would like to invite all the brits here to go ahead and dont post anymore.no one cares about you or your attitude.go be proud brits somewhere else .thank you

  • @gerardinm

dont tar all us brits with the same brush!!! my dad brought me up on john's films and he is one of my heros!!! rip duke

  • @jackaxe86 You just made me feel quite old, assuming there is truth in the statement. Long live The Duke... he lives on as long as a man still has a cowboy in his soul.

  • MY ICONIC HERO JOHN WAYNE R.I.P.!!!!!!!!!

  • Great job on the video & music.

A hero to me and so many others.

    thanks for posting this

    5*****

  • He was, no..he is the geates Westernstar ever! Thanks for your tribute. 5*****

  • he was what all men are made out of

  • @josephcantone No he's not what all men are made out of! I look around today and see weasels for government leaders, dirty robes for judges, computer geeks in their 30's who are still having trouble reaching puberty, people getting sex changes and going against what nature made them, crack and meth heads, people whacked out on prescription meds because they can't deal with life - rather than reaching for the bible. So maybe you meant to say, "He was what all men "were" made out of."

  • Nice tribute to a WW2 draft dodger.

  • @tommytruth

He tried numerous times to join the military but was always rejected dude to injuries he sustained in college football. In his memoir he admits the regret he felt for not joining the service and was much of the inspiration to some of his more conservative and controversial at the time movies he directed, such as the Alamo and The Green Berets. John wayne respected the Americans military and always paid tribute, more than what most actors do today. Do some research next time dipshit.

  • John Wayne lives on in many of us True Americans

  • great vid.

  • Great ! I love John Wayne!

  • He was one of a kind just as so many other greats that we have lost....The movies today cann't hold a candle to all the great ones that have passed on.

  • John Wayne remains the biggest western's make in all times. I live in Brazil.

  • Talk about John Wayne is like to remember that the flag, although all, is still there...

  • love the song from one him movies TRUE GRIT i think

  • There will never be another man like him! If he saw the USA the way it is today, this big strong symbol of a True American would have a tear rolling down his cheek for this once great nation that has lost its way! GOD BLESS AMERICA! PLEASE!!!!

  • i spent 28 years in the Marines because of this man. God love him. I 'd do it all again

    Msgt USMC Ret.

  • I've been in love with him since I was a little girl. You just don't find men like him anymore.

  • Very enjoyable..thanks

  • john wayne IS the united states of america!!! god bless...

  • ERES EL MEJOR JOHN

  • John Wayne. One of the greatest hero's that America has ever produced. A man who will live forever in the hearts of millions.

    Lazarus Long in the flesh.

  • Great video! John Wayne was so special to me!

  • A fitting tribute to a great American actor

  • I spent 28 years in the Marine corps because of this man and I'd do it all over again. Thank you Duke for a great life and Semper Fi

  • thank you for your service

  • @kobishop thank you for your service...Semper Fi

  • Super tribute to a super American Actor.

  • great great tribute well done, im not an american but, he was the greatest and i always thought a huge amount of him, i reckon i watch at laest one film of his a week usually i get in the mood and watch 5 or more.

what a guy true hero to me. thanx.

  • John Wayne will go on forever in the hearts of all Americans.

  • John Wayne is one of the best to me at least. No one can top him especially as a cowboy.

  • GOOD JOB !!!

    DUKE FOREVER....

  • Great video tribute...Loved it. - Kenny

  • he's the best cowboy!!!

do you know any john wayne's western film?

  • John wayne was a great actor but I believe gary cooper has him beat. also clint eastwood. john wayne hung on john fords shirt tails too much. Ford even had too teach him how too walk. Also when john wayne directed the alamo he left john ford nose his way in. when gary cooper acted he was that cowboy or the person he portrayed. john wayne never got into his character in that convincing way that gary did. But I still love john wayne just the same. and it's just my opinion.

  • harvey cartwright, you are an ahole, john wayne was a true american hero, and if you insult him, you are insulting america you ahole

  • Very very nicely put together !

  • John Wayne is America!

  • brunobrowne's a bit of a knob head, is he not? We all loved The Duke in this country ( this country being the good old UK)

Just remember, brunobrowne, we used to rule your country

  • Comment removed

  • WTF how come so many brits who write comments are anti Wayne, I know one thing, no british actor alive or dead had the presence on screen that Wayne had.

BTW O'Toole is irish and its his only good film.

  • O'Toole was born in Leeds and he was also great in Becket, Lord Jim, The Night of the Generals, The Lion in Winter, What's New Pussycat, Goodbye Mr Chips, Under Milk Wood, The Ruling Class, Caligula, Zulu Dawn, The Stunt Man, My Favourite Year, The Last Emperor, Troy and many others.

  • Listen dipshit O'Toole was born in Connermara and raised in Leeds and them films what a dose of shit.

  • Nobody knows where O'Toole was born or when. And all of those films were quite excellent. Anyway there were plenty of British actors who had great charisma like O'Toole, Sean Connery, Michael Caine, Robert Shaw, Cary Grant, Oliver Reed etc.

  • Oh but I thought you said he was born in Leeds.

Can you not read I SAID WAYNE HAD GREAT PRESENCE

  • I think everyone would agree Wayne's success was due to charisma rather than acting ability.

  • JOHNWANE es único e irrepetible.

  • To Kralhonj: You and PeterFirthFan need to stay in the UK with your stupid rhetoric. Of course you don't know what you're talking about, you damn Limey. I suppose you're favorite is "Peter's O'Toole" riding a camel.

People left England to get away from trash like you.

  • Obama4ever is now JohnRogersly--and he wears womens clothes and wishes he were American, readers! he needs to stick to his schoolbooks--so he can make it to high school

  • nicely done put together well thank you for sharing

  • to ChromeGhost0219:peterfirthfan is a 14 year old homosexual living in the UK--he is jealous because he ins't an american--and he puts his gay fantasies on men like john wayne --whom we americans all know would kick the crap out of pussies like peterfirthfan

  • The1redhead you are a damn embarrassment!!

    Wow!!!

  • John Wayne was a Great actor and lets just leave it at that!

  • Wayne's personal life clearly displays his complete hypocracy. The man was a right-wing war-mongerer who through his personal contacts successfully dodged the draft for WWII. His entire career epitomizes the essence of Hollywood, complete fakery! This cowardly thespian would happily participate in propaganda movies like The Green Berets knowing full well the influence he had in the USA . I wonder how many 19 yrs end up in Nam guided by the Duke?

Take your head out of your ass

  • As Opposed To Being Drafted By Johnson,For JFK's War? Democrats Lie Thousands Die! And Obama is Eyeing The Prize in Afganistan ,John Wayne was an Actor Pure And Simple If You Want To Blame Someone, take it To The Democrats .Thank God Nixon Ended It

  • I like john Wayne because he never took crap from anyone. Thats timeless.

  • RIP Duke, we miss you

  • John Wayne in ever day of my life i think you Great John rest in peace Thanks for oll

  • Great slide show! you have wonderful talent! I love and miss the Duke! Damn, if he was still with us, things in this country would be sooooo much better!

thanks for sharing. God bless you!

  • The best days of America are behind us, and he was part of it. Rest in peace Duke.

  • SIMPLEMENTE EL MEJOR

  • they will never be another duke!!!!

John Wayne is the duke & the best!!!

  • peter why are you such an asshole?

  • He never dodged the draft Peterhead. He was exempted due to his age of 34. Later he was upgraded to 1A draft eligble the studio raised hell. When he tried to join his contract with Republic Studios stepped in and demanded that his enlistment reclassification be changed from 1A draft eliglble to 2A deferment due to support of national health, safety, or interest. Then John was threaten that if he persued joining he would be sued. Get your damn facts straight.

  • Duke died thirty years ago this month.

The song is True Grit, for which he won Best Actor, 1971.

"I won't be wronged, I won't be insulted, and I won't be laid a hand on. I don't do those things to other people and I require the same of them." (John Wayne, the Shootist).

    NUFF SAID!

  • I patteren my life after him,Sticking up for the little guy. I wish things were the way they were 50 years ago. Rest in Peace duke and thank you

  • The one and only and never again DUKE! He had the values that our country lacks today.

  • God bless you Duke !!!

  • Henery:

    So... what's your point!

  • HeneryCorbetson:

I see you have a different name again and still hanging on the J. Wayne pages. Well anyway, Wayne (and Mike Savage) are way to American for the some Brits and I see your one of them.

  • Audie Murphy is a TRUE AMERICAN hero in my opinion.

Audie walked the walk! So with all due respects I respect him MORE than John Wayne.

  • emosh73:

I believe Wayne would have served but he blew his knee out in a non-football related activity and this cost his football scholarship at USC... It also stopped him from serving... Also a blown knee also keep "the Mick" from serving in Korea.

  • emosh73 who the hell is audie murphy?

  • Are you an American The1redhead2?

If you are, then you should walk off a short pier for being an ignorant fool.

If you are a not an American then look him up on google.

  • emosh73 what are you threatening my life because I don't know who audie murphy is and do I care? this video is about the duke the only cowboy I care about so shut the *****UP!

  • Audie Murphy, one of the most highly decorated soldiers of World War II. In 27 months of combat action, Murphy became one of the most highly decorated United States soldiers of World War II. He received the Medal of Honor, the U.S. military's highest award for valor, along with 32 additional U.S. and foreign medals and citations including five from France and one from Belgium

  • @The1redhead2

Gets your facts straight before you talk please. By the way you sound like you are 15 years old. Clueless and rather ignorant of the true facts.

    have a nice day...

  • fredhead..I sure hope youre kidding

Audie Murphy amd Alvin York should be common knowledge to you.

    You are embarassing.

  • what about audie murphy ?

  • So did Jimmy Stewart. He walked the walk and talked the talk.

  • John Wayne spent every last dollar he had and morgaged his house and car ,spent 10 years of his life, bringing the story of the Alamo to the screen he wanted to make sure all americans knew what happened down there. If you do'nt know find out.

  • for those of you that don't think john wayne can act you are fucking morons watch the searchers

  • What a beautiful tribute! I miss you Duke!

  • i love you John Wayne. I'm 21 and love your films, for what you stood for. I'm English too. It doesnt matter what people say, you were strong and real.

May God keep you by him always. RIP. Duke

    Ed x

  • I just love this guy, in films and in real life he was a true ledgend, what a man what an actor. You were, and always will be the tallest cowboy in the sadle to me. My nan loved your films thats where first watched you in the films and have never stopped watching you since

  • R.I.P.You were the best.

  • Thanks for this great videoi.

I`m a great admirer from John "The Duke".

    R.I.P.

  • High thanks for the very good Video from John Wayne ..I`m a great Fan from John..thanks

sorry my english is not good.

    lg maeuschen64

  • love you johny boy!!!!!!

  • R.I.P. dear Duke...

    God bless you

  • There is a wonderful section dedicated to John Wayne at the Cowboy Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City. They even have his rifle. :)

my favorite movie of his: Stagecoach. To die for!

  • Rest in peace John..

    I cried all day long

  • he always got his gun

  • John Wayne represents everything America should strive for. He was honest in his beliefs,One never questioned his patriotism, or his love of god or country. I grew up with him as my hero.

  • John Wayne represents everything that is bad about mankind. The only thing that can be said in his favour is at least he got cancer twice.

  • fuck you.

  • John Wayne was great. His films, Walt Disney and Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom were the kinds of things we watched growing up. Wish he had stayed around a lot longer (as do millions of others).

  • Poor Pitiful Harvey Cartwright, you've probably earned more ill wishes just in your Youtube comments than John Wayne earned in his entire lifetime. And It's a for sure thing that you don't have even a (small) fraction of the respect and good will that people freely gave and still give to John Wayne.

  • I guess that's why there are only 25 (Twenty Five) major network showings of John Wayne films during the next week alone! (Networks such as Turner CLASSIC Movies and American CLASSIC Movies.) That's what John Wayne was, a CLASSIC!

  • Its starting to make sense now. HarveyCartwright's user profile is from the UK. And now that he's attacking all Americans he must just now be coming to the realization that "...we kicked all the misfits out of our country (back in 1776) we sent them back to England!) (Quote from Tom Selleck in Quigly Down Under). Which isn't what I believe becasue like John Wayne, Tom's cooments were made in a movie - not real life, a place where Harvey obviously doesn't live!

  • Quoting from a movie? I suggest you try reading a book. If George III could easily get over American independence I don't see why anyone should care about it now, three centuries later.

  • Based on your comments to date I seriously doubt that you are high enough on the evolutionary scale to be able to read yourself :)!

  • Sorry mate, I read Christopher Hibbert's biography of George III in one day. Sad to see that he died on Sunday.

  • Sorry Magina, you couldn't read the directions to use a condom in one week, let alone you reading a book in one day! LOL! By the way, hows your mommy?

  • But Happy Holidays to you anyway :)!

  • "HarveyCartwright" you are obviously a typical inbred English moron who would be speaking German right now if it were not for America, fortunately, not all Brits are like you, hopefully you are not contributing to the gene pool because you are such an obviously unintelligent, meaningless, unproductive and irrelevant dolt, a true waste of earthly resources by virtue of your very existence, it would be a shame to think of yet another generation of your lunacy...

  • Nah mate, Churchill saved us from Germany, Roosevelt didn't even drop his neutral stance until Martch 1941, way after the Battle of Britain.

  • Have you changed your mind re: Churchill, HC?According to other things you've said (at IMDb as EdwardCarter), Churchill was worthless; but now, you seem to be doing a flip-flop speaking in his favor--which is dangerous ground for you to be taking since I also happen have favorable views of the great man. Personally believe FDR was a mixed bag of goods but I'll never denigrate him even though I've recently learned some unflattering information concerning him.

  • Well at least Churchill was bitterly disappointed with Eisenhower, whom he considered both weak and stupid, and very much regretted that the Democrats were not returned in 1952. I still agree with what Richard Burton wrote for his centenary though.

  • "Ike" was kinda like Zachary Taylor and Ulysses S. Grant: All of them highly competent war heros who were coaxed into entering politics, when they should have stayed out of that game.

Taylor died early in office, however, so we'll never know what kind of president he would have made, though I doubt it would have been any more impressive than what we had, from Harrison until Lincoln (Polk was the only competent Chief Executive during that era, I think).

  • Now Mangina thinks he knows history too! Think you know nothing about history. Keep in mind Magina half of Churchills bloon and gene pool was American and that was the part that had the fight in it! Got it, Americans love a good fight, especially against mindless Mangina little limeys. By the way, how's your mommy doing?

  • Wrong AGAIN. Geez what a idiot. Get your facts straight. Although the USA didn't enter the war in Europe officially until much later it was shipping armaments food and clothing to England from the outset. One important move by President Roosevelt was to supply naval and air escorts (destroyers, sub-chasers, patrol boats) to British shipping fleets, even though Congress had not authorized such an action. This move was instrumental in getting supplies through the German submarine blockade.

  • Actually it was from March 1941.

James Stewart was a racist, just like Wayne.

  • Well Mangina you are all knowing so why can't you tell if it is a movie quote? Well must have been watch your mommy and I one night. Shocked you, didn't I!

  • You are right man I would like to find Out where HarveyCartwright lives so I can Give him a good old john wayne ass whoppen

  • Very nice tribute. Thanks for sharing. I was blessed to have had an opportunity to shake this wonderful man's hand in 1972. I was 6, and already a big Duke fan. How many of you know that his real name was Marion? *Marion Michael Morrison. Gentle rest, Duke, and thanks.

  • my bad. i think it's a medley. i know part of it is from "true grit", but i think the beginning is from "big jake". i dunno. i'm retarded.

  • the music is from "big jake" isn't it?

  • no its from um.......tip of my tongue ummmmmmmm..true grit, yeap i love it

  • Britain needs John Wayne or his British equivalant (Churchill) to solve the credit crunch. A true believer with no dithering.Action would occur quickly and people would have confidence in the solution.

  • chrchill was a retarded drnk who sold the empire in connivance with international bankers.

  • OH, were are you now John Wayne..... AMERICA NEEDS YOU.

  • Duke was the greatest.Liberty Valance,The Searchers,Red River,The Shootist,The Cowboys.None better.

  • Maybe some better, Rio Bravo, Big Jake, Eldarado, Chisum, Rio Lobo :) May God Bless John Wayne

  • You have just shown your ignorance of his past, his talent and his ethical standards. The man had four kids and chose not to go into the military as he could not support them on a privates pay. And last I checked American's are still free to make their own choices on how they will live their lifes. Racism is a hatred of someone for their race alone, so maybe you should get your definitions straight, a racist he was not. If he disliked someone it was because they lacked moral character.

  • and a hopeless patriot........he was too young for WWI and too old for WWII. The US Govt. thought he could do more for the US in Hollywood.

You on the other hand are a Commie piece of shit.

  • I hope you get hit by a freight train in your Communist pinko fag balls, and you live for two hours, but the Doctor comes in and cuts your worthless trash throat and laughs at you while you bleed to death on the floor. If he was here he'd beat you with a shovel.

  • Harvey Cartwright you are the Cunt, certainly not John Wayne.

  • HarveyCartwright, it was not that John Wayne was to old, he chose not to for some of the reasons I already mentioned. If your comments are meant to persuade then maybe you should bring some facts for your statments. If you have none, which I doubt you do, then I will just discard you for being the irrational, ignoratnt, childish ass that it seems your are.

  • He aggressively dodged the draft throughout the war by getting his Hollywood lawyers to secure deferment after deferment for him. Justy read Gary Wills' book "John Wayne's America" on the subject.

  • First off, the draft is immoral as the government does not own you nor anyone else (this coming from a prior-Marine). Second, it was not his lawyers as it was Republic Studios that had to ask for the deferment. Finally, who cares if he did not join, last I checked John Adams and Thomas Jefferson did not join the military either. To be heroic does not require shooting people. To be heroic only requires standing up for one's defined principles.

  • At least other draft dodgers like Errol Flynn, Cary Grant, Frank Sinatra, Van Johnson and others didn't hypocritically set themselves up as chickenhawks after the war, or blacklist others who actually served.
