  • I would like to see another Dune strategy-based game, except it has the factions from the later books: like the Honored Matres, the Thinking Machines, etc. I would also like to see live-action cutscenes, along with some noticeable actors/actresses. For example, Mary Elizabeth Winstead would be excellent as a member of the Honored Matres.

  • Michael Dorn!

  • @Lymanity Micheal McShane!

  • If I remember right, the Harkonnen didn't use the death hand while Rakan was still the baron- or was that only for the commander?

  • Baron: "I had hope to avoid this unfortunate conflict. My intend was to make a gesture of peace."

Lol... gotta love the baron... Wish there was a 4th game...

  • This game was so much ahead of the other RTS games at that time. I fucking love it

  • Who called a meeting at 3am in the fucking morning?? I could be tending to my slaves.. and killing them...

  • @nowaxtheory 3AM local time on Kaitan, could be 2PM on Geidi Prime... still, it probably inturrpted the Baron's 'quality time'

  • Wow, the Hologram pads remind me of the Senate in Star Wars Prequel. There are hundreds of those in the background.

  • Ok, I have a question - if Emperor is the sequel to Dune 2000, then who won in the previous game?

The intro shows the Ordos ending (Elara kills Frederick with the Gom-Jabbar), however there are several indications in the game that the Atreides won:

First, Achillus announces himself as "Duke Achillus OF Arrakis." Second, the first Atreides cutscene takes place on Arrakis (not on the House home planet). Finally - no mention of a failed previous commander (as seen in Ordos and Harkonnen).

  • @AlexeiVoronin Funny that all the Mentats and leaders changed, like Leto to Achillus. There was also indication that it was taking during the books:Shaddam IV as the Corrino leader in Emperor, Leto as the Atreides leader in 2000. Oh, and Edric O bears similarities to the Speaker.

  • @DarthRushy - Ah yes, I have suspected that the Speaker is actually Edric 0. The Executrix were not happy with his performance and decided find a better use for him ;)

Or perhaps ingesting Spice made him powerful enough to to serve as a central hub for the minds of the four Executrix members.

We will never know for sure. Even if there is a sequel to this game, there will probably be an entirely new cast.

  • @AlexeiVoronin They kept Elara's and Frederick's actors. Oh, and I really hope that Edric 0's mind survived. He was truly awesome. Btw, can you tell me why the Guild representative said that they were the last 3 Houses. It's impossible. Most planets in the Old Imperium had Houses. And do you PLZ know what's up with the green color reflecting the Atreides Mentat in the Giedi Prime cutscene and the Ordos Mentat in most cutscenes?

  • @DarthRushy - Perhaps they meant that the Atreides, Ordos and Harkonnen were the last Houses powerful enough to participate in the war (and eventually crown a new Emperor). There certainly are many more Houses in the Dune Universe (Ginaz, Ecaz, Fenrig, Moritani, Vernius, Richese, Wallach, etc.). They are probably too weak compared to the three playable Houses and are therefore ignored.

I suspect the green glow is a reflection from the green screen they used while shooting the videos :P

  • @AlexeiVoronin So I also wonder who won the previous game.

  • @DarthRushy - I just remembered something about the Atreides final mission in Dune 2000. The briefing mentiones that the Imperial Sardaukar came in force, causing a lot of confusion all over the planet. The Atreides lost numerous territories and troops, and yet they were able to attack and destroy the Emperor's palace, winning the war.

That could explain the situation at the beginning of Emperor - the Atreides managed to control only 1/3 of the planet, the other Houses took the other 2/3.

  • @AlexeiVoronin Yeah, and the Atreides were also the only ones not to show Predecessor(who was the same in Harkonnen and Ordos cutscenes). But in the beginning we see the Ordos cutscene and how can Elara be alive in Atreides or Harkonnen ending?

  • @DarthRushy - I'm not sure. If the Ordos did win the war, then who is the failed predecessor?

It is possible that the successful commander retired (with a considerable compensation package) and that other guy took his place. He lost territories to the Atreides and Harkonnen and was punished (to serve as an example to future commanders). A new strategist was then procured.

As for Edric 0, the Executrix decided they were ready to merge their minds and needed him to be their Speaker... maybe.

  • @AlexeiVoronin I think the Atreides should have won. Screw the Death Hand, no chance the Harkonnen won.

  • @DarthRushy - It is the logical outcome. The Atreides are the "good guys"... and they win in the original Dune novel (and the Dune movies).

  • @AlexeiVoronin But we saw Ordos cutscene in the beginning and if the Atreides or Harkonnen won, Elara wouldn't be alive, she'd be ash.

  • @DarthRushy - It's hard to say. As I mentioend earlier, it is possible that the Ordos won, then retired the successful commander (with a "compensation package") and got a new one who failed (and lost territories).

Also, the first intro movie says that the Emperor died by Lady Elara's hand. This happens only in the Ordos ending of D2000. And I have the feeling she helped the saboteur enter the palace ;)

  • @AlexeiVoronin This makes me suspect that the Harkonnen won. Cos the Atreides and Ordos have equal chances. Well. I guess they won.

  • @AlexeiVoronin Leto II Atreides was a Sandworm-human hybrid and the most horrible tyrant in he history of Dune universe.

    Nazi terminology from Nuremberg Rally:

    Totenehrung (honouring of dead)

    Ehrenhalle (Hall of Honour)

    Ehrentribüne ( tribune of honour).

The 8th Party Congress was known as the "Rally of Honour" (Reichsparteitag der Ehre).

Only Nazis and fascists are obsessed by honour. Leto II was a fascist acording to every criteria like all Atreides.

Nazis hate rdheads and mentally unstable.

  • @Narania234 - Don't forget that the Dune universe is a very strange place, quite different from our world. Our views of "good" and "evil" are not applicable in it.

Of course, the games tend to exaggerate a bit. In the original Dune novel, the Harkonnen aren't exactly evil, they are just very cunning and treacherous (more like the Ordos in the games). They are more interested in profit than violence and bloodshed.

  • @AlexeiVoronin I agree it's a very strange place.

Härkönen is a Finnish family name: härkä means bull and rauta means iron.

My point is Nazis were cold, detached, emotionless, obedient control freaks. Nazis hated neurotics, mentaly unstable and considered them madmen fit only for extermination. Nazis would regard Harkonnen as madmen and wanted to exterminate them.

Allies in WW2 used more flame tanks and flamethrowers than Nazis and Japs.

Guild and Tleilaxu are true evil, Westwood is correct.

  • @DarthRushy

FUCK Atreides, FUCK Allies, FUCK GDI!

Harkonnen, Soviets, Rising Sun, Scrin and NOD FTW!!!

  • @AndrewtheDuke Shut your swearing mouth and go away.

  • @DarthRushy

    You go away, GLA FTW!

  • @DarthRushy Harkonnens have the strongest miltary, Ordos have the superior technology. Atreides are narrow-minded , emotionless, obedient, detached, right-wing conservative, fools obsessed by honour. Atrides a are more similar to Nazis than the rest. Leto II the Worm was the most horrible tyrant in history of Dune. Westwood is correct, emperor worm-Leto II Atrides is far worse than Harkonnens.

Harkonnen movies are the best., their music is the best, it's easy to kill the Atreides with Harkonnens

  • @Narania234= Nice try Face dancer. Your revisionist lies don't fool me. At least Leto II did not put heart plugs in his subjects and other atrocities. Now excuse me, I have to catch a Heighliner.

  • @vigo894 I didn't talk to you, ridiculous bootlicker. Your Atreides overlords are taking liquids from the body of the defeated commander in case of defeat. According to your lies Harkonnens are evil only because they are ''gingers'', gay, use flamethrowers and are mentaly unstable. In WW2, Allies used flame tanks and flamethrowers extensively against Germans and Japs.

You right-wing, conservatives try to blame mentally unstable people for all evil. Gunseng is an anti-hero, not a villain.

  • @Narania234 anti-hero=/= villian

  • @1987Challenger3 ''In fiction, an antihero (sometimes antiheroine as feminine) is generally considered to be a protagonist whose character is at least in some regards conspicuously contrary to that of the archetypal hero, and is in some instances its antithesis in which the character is generally useless at being a hero when they're supposed to be one''.

Antiheroes:Riddick, Wolverine from X-Men, Altaïr from Assassin's Creed.

Leto II Atreides\TheTyrant- Evil Overlord\ Lawful Evil.

  • @1987Challenger3 ''After Leto's death, as a result of years of their three thousand year imprisonment, the human race exploded outward into the universe, in an event known as the Scattering. Leto was forever remebered, and refered to as "The Tyrant", even unto the time when the human race returned from the Scattering''.

    Leto II=Emperor Worm

Elara is alive in Harkonnen ending, which means they freed her. Watch Elara's Quietus to see real villains:Shafla- Lawful Evil, Clix-Neutral Evil.

  • @vigo894 Nazi terminology:

Totenehrung (honouring of dead), Ehrenhalle (Hall of Honour), Ehrentribüne ( tribune of honour).

The 8th Party Congress was known as the "Rally of Honour" (Reichsparteitag der Ehre). Sound like your Atreides.

Only Nazis and fascists kill for their precious honour. Your Leto Worm restored the horror of inquisition, all inquisitors represent Nazi-like evil.

Worm was the worst totalitarian tyrant in the Dune universe, even his relative hated him and she killed him.

  • @vigo894 Your precioius Worm approved of Bene Tlelax inhumane organic technology when they ghola-cloned his pedo lover, Malky. When your worm fell into the water, his sandworm body was dissolved, this caused painful, agonising death, fitting end for the Tyrant of the known universe.

Bene Gesserit and all others called Leto the Tyrant and Guldur. From Tolkien's Dol Guldur, fortress of Dark Lord Sauron.

I prefer transport from Smuggler's Guild.

Die for your fascist overgrown maggot, you minion.

  • -"use of atomics is forbidden"

    -Death hand ready for launch

    ORLY?

  • i love the concept of the executrix. fuckin awsome

  • these elaborate hand motions are not from Lynch´s move. I mean, sure, the appeared also in Lynch´s movie but Lynch most likely took the Idea from the Dune books. Remember the secret hand signs almost every faction in the Duniverse use to cover up what they actually want to say to everyone who is listening but is not supposed to be listening. :D

  • 0:50 - lol just look how the Baron laughs at the Duke. "Of Arrakis... ho hooo..."

  • Peace is not an option for House Ordos? So, I hope that the Atreides should not attack Draconis IV. Ordos citizens may see than "Peace is a forced option", if their house is defeated by the sons of Atreus, because House Harkonnen; they will take the enemies civilians as "slaves", and will have supplies for many years. This is terror. UH, I don't understand this "mercantile house of mercenaries", even now.

  • @1992OS

Oh, no! If I was the Atreides general, I'd attack Draconis IV in retaliation for ghola-assasin attack on Caladan! Ordos are actually more threat than the Harkonnen with their subterfuge tactics.

  • what the hell is this crap?

  • I want to have the mixed voice of the Executrix 1:43

  • I see two more empty floating thingies, is their suppose to be 2 more houses?

  • @makemap

The Ordos perhaps have their ancient Earth origins in China, since their family name is the same as that of the Ordos Desert.

  • "Who will represent House Atreides?"

"I am Worf of the Klingons...I represent House Atreides."

  • Real-time strategy is very similar. There are parallels between EBfD and RA 3

    Harkonnen - Soviets (Powerful)

    Atreides - Allied (Democratic)

    Ordos - Japanese (Technological)

  • @AndrewtheDuke Wrong, Ordos - more likely (Corporates) Just because there is an Asian chick doesn't mean it's Asian. Go check out RFID, Cyberdyne, etc.

  • @makemap

No, this is not about chick. I mean Ordos technology is more advanced than other houses.

  • Ordo's...the rule of money...Moloch.

  • that baron, i think that's the actor who played friar tuck in robin hood with kevin costner lol.

  • Comment removed

  • my freind made this.

  • those Guilders, having their War of Assassins meetings so early in the morning. Sooo crazy...

  • the Ordos Fish Speaker is just so bad-ass! I've always thought that Edric-O is one of the Executrix, preferably the male-sounding voice, because he did such a good job in Dune 2000.

  • holy shit that's worf!

  • the what house was fallen?

  • @ishallkillall

Corino the house the Emperor belonged to.

  • I get a goose skin if Ordos speak (nice voice)

the the Guy of Ordos looks like (if you have fantasie)m the n he looks a bis similiar to Akatsuki (Naruto) so how he looks !

  • Dang, does no one play this game anymore? I went online earlier today and it was completely empty.

  • I thought the Spacing guild needed translation devices to speak due to Spice induced evolution.

  • @AduneStormwind he represents the Guild, maybe he is just a spokesman for them but not one of them.

  • it is warf didnt see tht

  • duke=klingon from star trek next gen(forgot his name) :D

  • @uyate I think you mean Warf.

  • Michael Dorn

  • Worf

  • 2;35 The baron looks like you've gotta be kidding me when they say use of atomics is forbbidden LOL.

  • Funny thing is that atomics are forbiden by default. Should a house use it "against human population" they'd be banished and hunted by all the houses of the landsraad.

  • His faction is known for its use of atomics...

  • @thedarkprinceVvvvV

House Ordos will abide by the terms prescribed by this council??? LOL!!:P

  • I love the metallic voice of the Speaker of the Executrix!!

  • Now that I think about it, Duke Achillus sounds just like Barack Obama.

  • Michael Dorn and Barack Obama sound nothing alike.

  • @tehpevis Vote for House Ordos 2012!

  • Goddamnit, there's no decent Leftist faction in Dune... bloody Dystopian concept. In that case, umm...

    Spice Smugglers 2012!

  • Yes there is, the Ordos is based on the Chinese ;)

  • Well fuck me sideways, that really does fit the Ordos. They're both totalitarian in all aspects but the market. Not necessarily leftist, but very Modern China.

  • Duke Achillus is way cooler and sounds nothing like Barack.

  • @tehpevis He is Worf. Son of Mogh. He is not this patahk Barack Obama

  • @tehpevis ¿Is the Duke a demagogue? ;)

  • @tehpevis Hes played by Michael Dorn (aka Worf out of Star Trek :P)

  • the guy playing the leader of house atreides is worf. ha.

  • Michael Dorn.

  • Nah, this is DUNE. This video's from a sequel to a game that's based off of a 1984 movie that's based off of a science fiction novel series from Frank Herbert called Dune. Actually, a lot of elements from Dune are used in W40K, specifically the concept of planets being kept inhospitable so they can be used as warrior training facilities, mutated humans being used as Navigators, female religious warriors used by an all powerful God-Emperor, and possibly the concept of the Imperium of Man itself.

  • its all an extension of the sexual drive the libido...think about it female religious warriors used by an all powerful god emperor you say

  • @smithdanger and starcraft stole everything from w40k. ohwait...

  • @smithdanger Thanks for the info

  • @smithdanger The imperium of man concept is more from Asimov's Foundation rather than Dune.

  • No its dune.

  • @SNIPERjamnik He also forgot to mention Dune was written in the sixties, long before Warhammer was conceived.

  • someone ever play this game against me???

  • haha I have this game.

  • Harkonnen rules!!!

  • Compared with the new video cutscene from newest game like C&C or RA series.... this video is MUCH MORE SUPERB !

The prop, the chars, the dialog, etc is much better

  • Defo agree on that one Kaizer, the modern stuff doesn't have the decent scenes like this.

  • how on earth is atreides duke black ? :DD

  • He spent too much time under the sun of Arrakis :)

  • In the game timeline things turned out differently, the Duke and Baron are from secondary bloodlines. The Primary bloodlines wiped each other out before the events of Dune.

  • You mean Leto/Paul Atreides as well as Vladimir/Feyd Harkonnen bloodlines were wiped out and replaced by this new characters?

  • Pretty much, Leto and Vladamir killed each other in their own war of assassins shortly after the murder of Leto's first son. In the 'real' timeline Thufir stops Leto from attacking Vladamir as they have no proof of his involvement. Feyd and Rabban are from the Rautha-Harkonnen line, Vladamir's cousin dropped the Harkonnen from the family name when he abdicated his line from inheritance. In this timeline they grew up minor nobles out of the line of succession.

  • What he said. I like that.

  • i like the ordose

  • Harkonnen are evil and BEST. Sardaukar are the shizz too tho. Chainguns are super rad.

  • Comment removed

  • In the orriginal dune, house ordos doesn't exist, but its a good option as third faction.

The only thing I am soory about is that the Bene Gesserit doesn't exist in the game.

  • um thasts not true .... the ordos were spions in the original movie (they tried to kidnap an spice-collector it was just mantionet as a sidenote ... someone said :they are probalbly the ordos definately not the harkonnen or something.....

  • they do but they don't play a big role in the game

  • Out of all the Houses, the Ordos have always been my favorite. I miss the mentat from Dune 2000 though.

  • will there be another dune pc game ?? I DO hope so

  • I know they'll make a new movie version of Dune, so maybe they'll do something based on that.

  • They do? When is it going to be released? I have not heard anything about that. But even a new movie would be tremendous - love this theme

  • A new film based on the book was announced in 2008, to be directed by Peter Berg and produced by Paramount Pictures.

  • cooooooool! I am very much looking forward to that movie. Thank you for your information

  • This is awesome! These cutscenes are like the Dune sequel we never got. Too bad there wasn't enough effort to deliver a follow up film.

  • Holy hell. Michael Dorn plays Achilles? AWESOME.

  • Wow. Never realized how great the Executrix is.

    "Peace is not an option".

I guess my English knowledge wasn't good enough to understand what they were saying in Dune 2000. I think the Executrix was just a strange creature to me at that time.

This is bad. Now I like all houses. :P

    Harkonnen still the most though!

  • hey michael dorn!

  • how olds this game??

  • Dune: 1992

    Dune 2: 1993

    Dune 2000: 1998

    Battle for Dune: 2001

    Frank Herbert's Dune: 2001

  • All Hail House Ordos!

  • the entire purpode of the War of Assassins was to drain the 3 Houses, very ingenious indeed

  • Ordos was mentioned in the Dune Encyclopedia, but that was later declared non-canonical by both Frank and Brian Herbert. I'm not sure why they chose to make the Duke a black man, but this guy does a very good job portraying the regal and honorable leader. He almost strikes me as a black King Arthur.

  • who cares? it's a non-canon dune game, they can do anything they want. many of the world's greatest spiritual leaders in the past have been black people, so they may have tried to make a connection there.

  • ummm why is the guy from house atreides black....so much for westwood studios actualy trying to stay loyal to the source material

  • The original members who made the first Dune games are now at Petroglyph I believe.

  • Uh, is the Duke of Atreides black in this game? LOL, uh, they are supposed to be descended from the Greeks...not Africa...LOL

  • Maybe they're Moroccans..=)

  • I have installed the patch and the game will install, except it stays on the EA logo, sometimes the Westwood logo appears after it, but then it hangs. I have no idea what kind of solution i need, anyone, any idea?!

Maybe something to do with service packs for windows i heard.

    regards,

    Keimpe

  • Rakan's face when Shafla prohibited atomics made me smile.

  • Westwood had some great ideas, and the Ordos Executrix was one of their best!

  • isnt house corrino the house ordos

  • nope, they don't have anything to do with eachother

  • No the House Corrino is the Imperial House

  • i miss westwood. will ea make another dune game?

  • Not yet, but they are making Red Alert 3, so anythings possible. The Dune Series MADE the RTS genre. Let me restate that, the Dune Series didn't invent the RTS genre, but they might as well have. For EA to ignore the series that made them and hundreds (hyperbole) of other studios billions of dollars doesn't make sense. In other words, I sure hope they make another one.

  • Are you so sure? By EA? All the orignal members of westwood have left... itll be crap, trust me.

  • the Ordos speaker (and the House in general) are so cool!!

  • I fervently concur!

  • will this game run on my windows xp 566mhz piece of crap?

  • It runs on my windows xp 400mhz piece of crap so I expect so.

  • frznhotdogger... yes that is michael dorn...

  • This has nothing to do with the actual storyline of Dune.

  • You are correct, sir.

  • I am aware if that, sir.

  • And yet it respects many details of the Dune universe wile ading something completely new too.(Ordos)

  • Oh yes... Ordos does capture that feel of Ix and Bene Tleilax in one faction-barely observing the Great Convention.

  • Exactly!

  • Ordos isn't completely new. They were in the Dune universe, just never given any importance beyond the mention of their name.

  • Ordos wasn't mentioned in any of the Dune books, maybe in the Dune Encyclopedia, but that wasn't written by F. Herbert

  • House Harkonnen!!!!!!!

  • Rakan is so convincing.

  • "in the end- we will prevail...al other considerations are trivial"

    love that quote

    i love the executrix quotes

"fear is an efficient tool of management"

    executrix owns (;

  • Holy crap is that Michael Dorn?! <33333

  • Such a great concept like Dune is almost impossible to put into a series, but given a Dune channel and no concept of time per episode, the possibilities could be endless. Maybe one day the viewing will be as good as the book, think of the details...

  • y does this look so cheap?

  • Wonder if they have old Worfy as a bloodlined Atreides...

  • Good ideas bad acting

  • How does this fit in with the book?

  • It doesn't. It's an "alternate timeline" based on David Lynch's Dune Movie. If you think too much about it your head will explode like mine though.

  • The guy who played worf in star trek the next generation is the black guy playing the duke atriedes. The fryar in robin hood prince of thieves is the white guy playing the baron harkonnen. Cool!

  • wow that Ordos thing is messed
