i think raju pop something surely..he was sleeping at last ball ..school boy stuff ..but what a cricket match ...electrified commentary by bill lawry ..duckworth lewis i thing r the best mathematician of 20th century after ramaanujan and albert einstein and carl gauss if they study that method they all surely renounce mathematics
The worst re adjustment formula ever. without any doubt. have you seen this. 3 overs were deducted and 1 run was reduced. mother .&*%*%*68 . i am no fan of Duckworth but that was way worse.
Srikanth was way past his prime in 1992. Of course he wouldn't get into today's Indian side but the talent pool available in the 1980s was much poorer. And a strike rate of 71 was pretty good in those days.
Srikanth must be the most useless Indian opening bastman ever. His overall ODI batting average is a lowly 29 with a pathetic strike rate of 71. His away batting average is an even worse 23 with a more pathetic strike rate of 62. Seriously, the guy was just useless. You could count on him to get out for zero when the pressure was highest and when the team needed him the most. Can't believe that idiot is a selector now.
This is the match in which Azharuddin came back in his full form after log term .. that never faded until his retirement . After this match ,all other batsmen failed but Azharuddin played well at least..Even though India's baddest performed WC was this one.
I still remember watching that match being just 12 years old. thought India would get home at ease when Kiran hit two consecutive boundaries in the last over but they just got panicked when everything turned easy. Nevertheless, it was a cracker of a match.
aussies are lucky most of the time. also in 1999 against south africa. and we indians always choke at critical moments be it here in 1992 or against zimbabwe in 1999 and many other times. moreover this world cup was a bit silly in all with all dubious types of rules like rain rule coz of which south africa also were out of the world cup. in this india vs aus match due to some dubious rules it was reduced to 47 overs.
so near yet so far... i still remember this match as if it was yday
the last shot was so good that everyone thought it was a boundary when it was hit....total sloppy running by Raju, he should have almost start running when the bowler came to the crease to bowl.
Thanx! I have been looking for the Indian innings for a long time!
I think Azhar played the innings of his life here and possibly the World Cup 1992 in terms of class under severe pressure - there were many of raw power. There were two shots he played of McDermott early in the innings - a straight lofted shot using a flick of his wrist with minimun movement of the feet, and then the finest of flicks you would ever see (the Australians thought he was bowled - the flick was placed so fine!)

I must compliment Bill Lawry - he's Aussie, but he was still encouraging Srinath and Raju to run the 3rd on the last ball. that's sportsmanship.
