i think that peapole that do like the medieval times should try to reed the "Arn" books by Jan Guillou i am 14 years and found them very exiting! i don't know how many or what Language
We need something like this around were I live. The closest renaissance fair is lame AND they charge you. Merchandise and food is also overpriced, the archery range uses like 15lb bows with a target less than 20 feet away, the jousting almost makes me laugh when they trot towards each other and then tap each other's tin shields, and half the people that dress up seem more concerned with looking like they came out of a fantasy novel than history. Oh well. At least we have these videos.
@FreeSpirited15 Believe me, it's easy for you to say that now, in your heated home, refrigerated food and hot water, but in that era, everything was dirty, dangerous and extremely cold, and you were either a peasent or a noble, there was no thin line. Chance that you would be a peasent is about 80%. Believe me, you do not want to live in those day...
@FreeSpirited15 Sure..if you are into plagues, dying at the ripe old age of 30, tortured by inquisitions, being absolutely hideous, working in a hot field to satisfy a lord who has probably fucked (and when I say fucked I mean raped) everyone in the village, losing about 5 kids before they turn 6, starving to death in the freezing cold with nothing but a deer skin blanket and a nearly dead fire, whilst being told that its all god's plan.
i would love to go to one of these and set up one of those little medieval training barracks with wooden swords and just teach people basics for a little coin.
First week in august there will be a great reenactment in Wisby, Gotland, Sweden.
You should also try that. An reenactment of the great battle outside the walls where the danish king won over the Gotland farmers, because there was a warm summer and the city didn't help the fighters outside the walls.
Anyway, the Medieval festival in Visby is the greatest and best in Sweeden, and it has been around over 25 years too.
I used to go to Tewkesbury Medieval Fayre every year and loved it so much I wrote a song about it. It's true there is no admission charge, but parking your car will cost abt £10.00. I wont pay it.
What GREAT IDEA! a free festival what stop me going years ago was lack of money to think of all those great days out i've missed out on, "ca me chargin"
@tomjackson97 Imagine feeling that you were born six hundred years too late, and feeling, every time you see anything to do with the medieval period, that you should be living there with those people, away from this modern hell hole. For me, that's the point.
I wish my local SCA group here in the US put a little more emphasis on authenticity. It's one thing to be forgiving of those who are new or don't yet have the funds to expand their reenactment gear. Don't get me wrong. Many are AMAZING reenactors! But I think there are many who are complacent and don't bother making even a minor effort. In these events, the ambiance for all is created by all . . . For better or worse.
this festival looks really good, i love medieval england, but what about the calendimaggio of assisi? that's probably the most beautiful medieval festival i've ever seen...
From where do you get those statistics. According to the US census of 2000 being of English descent is the third most common for white Americans after Irish and German.
Tewkesbury is a good show but I've re-enacted at better. Anyway, Tewkesbury's fun and everyone has a good laugh. This video represents it almost perfectly.
that time england was a little weak country. Hungary was the strongest kingdom in medieval Europe. Henry V was a poor weak king. Hungarian Louis the great was the strongest on the continent. Type in english wikipedia: Louis the great , and type: history of Hungary
english heritage is knights, castles and kings with war, the americans have invaders, imigrants and their best they can come up with is faggoty westerns. long live england
They dont have NO history. They have their own unique short history as well as the history of their origins which includes Europe, Asia, Africa etc. When people accuse Americans or North Americans of having no history or culture they do not realize that many North Americans identify with their European (or other)roots. There is no America 'race'. at least not yet. So when you say America has no history you are basically saying that the whole world has no history.. which kinda doesnt make sense.
In most areas around here the people are descended at least in part from the British. I'm 1/4 English from my grandma's side alone. My other anscestors were English, Scotish and Irish, with some Cherokee and and a touch of German.
? why do you seem to be annoyed that I'm descended from Europeans? I give up. Think what you want, but I'm happy that I can claim anscestry from interesting places and interesting people.
Another great Festival, my 15th...Well organised as usual and a warm welcome from the locals who were anxious to make it go well after the terrible floods of last year. I hope that the Procession through the Town becomes a regular thing too...it was great fun to do. Our Belgian and German allies fought well for the King along with the usual Yorkist groups. If you've never been before, it is not to be missed...a great weekend!

Very interesting informative video. We went to this event on Saturday. It was brilliant. For kids of 6 + 7 to see our history brought to life like this was wonderful and very thrilling. Only paid for car parking because we wanted to be close to the field. The event was free. A fantastic wkend of medieval jousting, battles. Looking forward to next year. Well organised and everyone looked like they were having a good time. Wish we had videod the event so enjoyed watching your video. thank you.
