@alexbeathaloreach yeah um i don't know you but your giving off this douche bag vibe and i highly doubt you know me. I mean 79 others so far watch south park so i guess you think there pathetic too. what is your problem?
i have the heavy metal record from 1981....and a picture thing fell out of it that said limited edition 1996.....i have no idea what the picture thing is or if it might be worth anything any info about it would help thx :)
I feel it's best to look at this movie in the context of 50's and 60's sci fi comics. The creators grew up during that time, and the film itself is an adaptation of a comic magazine. It's not about music or tits, it's about imagination and adventure (and tits, because back when the creators were kids, society mostly repressed sexuality). On the whole, it works as a counter-cultural expression of the possibilities of a youthful imagination. That's why many people see it as juvenile, which it is.
The music was "out" and the cartoon was an "in your face" to Anime that was just doing their intro to cartooness... Wonderful stuff... much loved and very cult-film now!
My brother taped this off the USA Network back in the early 90's... was so heavily edited it was hard to figure out what the hell was happening a lot of the time.
@tequilagirl722 Dude don't mind the other retard.South Park rocks. If a little fucker like him comes and tells you the opposite, please tell him to simple fuck off
Metal Hurlant (aka Heavy Metal), created by Jean Giraud (Moebius) and Philippe Druillet in France 1974, is going find itself released as a new scifi-series in 2011 (US markets maybe in 2012). The title of the first two are Red Light and Cold Hard Facts.
You love that , you'll love this.NOVA REX: AIN'T EASY BEING CHEESY is the 2011 hilarious hair-metal rockumentary that follows NOVA REX as they promote the band's greatest hits collection and share wild tales of late '80s, early '90s glam rock greatness.
I saw this movie on HBO late one night when i was a little kid and could'nt believe my eyes because of the nudity, language and violence in a cartoon and i loved it, 30 years later it's still a cool fucking movie!
I heard they're trying to remake this, I'd love to go see it, and see if any dumb parents bring their kids thinking, "Oh it's animated so it must be for kids, even though it has a R rating."
I saw this movie once. When it became a DVD, I suggested that librarians make it a library DVD. I have been checking out Heavy Metal from libraries when I find it.
I saw this movie about ten years ago and I loved everything about it. I bought and watched it and I still love this movie. This comic movie is really messed up, but excellent at the same time. My favorite story was the cabbie and red haired woman. If you never saw this movie, trust me about this, check it out.
History lesson kiddies. There was a time before the interwebs, file sharing, and illegal downloading when things not commercially available (like this movie) were passed person to person on the awesome medium called magnetic tape. It was truly a righteous time. And you were guaranteed never to receive something that sucked, cause if it sucked then noone would copy it and pass it around.
@ShadowACE1998 Cool movies and music would be recorded on blank tapes and passed around from friend to friend with no other promotion beyond fanzines and word of mouth. The information age totally destroyed that wondrous underground. Now any idiot can record something digitally and post it on the web. Look at Justin Queerber. That little fucker would have never gone anywhere in the old days.
I saw this movie one night and all I remembered was that it was made in Canada in 1981. I took my movie dictionary (didn't know how to use IMDB apparently) and I looked for it one title at a time. When I found it and saw this trailer.... WOW!
I adore this movie, I have such great memories related to it!
BADASS TRAILER AND MOVIE! I LOVE IT! If only they could make animated movies this awesome now. And if this movie was released in 1983 or 84, they could've used Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax, Diamond Head, and so forth. But it's still a badass soundtrack no matter what, LONG LIVE HEAVY METAL!
I feel bad for this generation. This movie was one of many true movie experiences and there hasn't been one for over 15 years. What ever happened to the good old days when you could beat a kid to near death in school for good reason and nothing came of it.
I love in the trailer when the title song blasts out and that weird spaceship sound that goes when the title appears. It's almost a sexual sensation for the ears. This is an incredible movie
Taarna isn't your type? what about Katherine, the redhead or even that Jewish chick?
So this movie requires drugs right? i don't do drugs either. I guess the other similar movie The Fifth Element requires them and stoners love that one. Do you think this movie predates anime in the US in terms of adult animation S2M?
No, by no means does it require drugs, obviously, since you and I love it, but it is still a very drugged-out movie, ha.
They're attractive, I'm just saying that they're not my "type" as far as a preference, since I like really short/petite girls. Maybe Katherine would work for me, ha. But, while I find these somewhat attractive, Disney and Anime type girls are much more to my taste. I'm not the type of guy who gets turned on at all by Xena, Warrior Princess, or that general type though.
Was The Fifth Element a drugged out movie too? How about that redhead in Harry Canyon? nice beauty she is but needs to shave that jungle down there. But Taarna did had exotic pubes.
Whoops, ha, when I said Katherine, I was thinking of the redhead from the Harry Canyon story. I would have to see the film again to comment on Catherine. I don't remember her well enough, but I think she still had more of a warrior physique. Whatever nerdy look she had on Earth might have been more to my tastes, if she was at least cute, ha. And, yeah, I don't like those jungle situations, ha, no matter how exotic. ;o) And, I don't know why, but Fifth Element doesn't seem as drugged out.
adult anime has been around in 1970 when Osezmu of "Astroboy" fame did "Cleopatra" which was an erotic softcore hentai before there was that tentacle rape stuff.
The other closet movie to this and the comic magazine is "Avatar", definitely has Heavy Metal influences from both the comic and movie. James Cameron is a big fan of both but in an interview he used the comic magazine as his inspiration including 2 stories from it even of one where a person goes in a machine to become a warrior in another planet. James Cameron is gonna be one of the directors of the new HM movie.

@AMVsoldier18 apples and oranges, apples and oranges. should i say it again? no really; i love heavy metal, avatar was a good movie, i cant say i love it, but it also hasn't been around as long.
@AMVsoldier18 AVATAR wasnt that bad, i liked it. The arguement is too tipical i know, but the story is original and at least have some new ideas. Anime started in the 30's then became adult in the late 60's. Closet anime similar to this movie would be Wicked City, Ninja Scroll or even hentai.
