  • i lave this guy

  • He wanted to be an explorer, As results everyone in the family got closer after his death. VERY few people would go into the wild alone. VERY RARE. That s why he is a legend.

  • well at least he died in a beautiful place.

  • Amen To That Brother.

  • The way that Chris was brought up by his parents, he parents didn't deserve to keep him, and he was going on this journey to find himself regardless of them.

  • Additionally, the shoma person is of no relation to me, but I appreciate his comments.

  • Obviously most of you have no understanding of parenthood, what it means to lose a child. These are MY opinions and you needn't diss me for expressing MY opinions. I speak as a mother, a giver, a sacrificer.

If you were to study Far Eastern and Middle Eastern societies, you would find that they are collective; the family come first before the individual. In Western societies, the individual come before the collective, and Chris demonstrates this quite well. As a mom, I call it plain selfish.

  • Violin Playing ha ha ha

  • gdss95 ...exactly who are YOU to judge anyone. It was his life to live. People like you are lost. Get a life!!!

  • Beautiful...

  • Regardless of The mistakes Chris McCandless made that may have led to his Death I have a Great Deal of Respect for the Man For following his dream. Thanks To Chris Most people will learn from this experience. To me He sacrificed his life and at the same time taught all of us a lesson. As a result Of this Story I have made it a goal of Mine to someday go and visit this Bus and pay Respect to Chris.

  • I am always baffled by the anger and animosity people like alaskagrrl59 have towards Chris, what is your problem? is it a jealousy thing? are you just disturbed? this guy who wanted no attention at all, lived his life, dies in the bush and people feel some sort of connection to him and you say nasty things about him? really, what's the matter with you?

  • I So Agree with You I'm Willing to bet that alaskagrl59 and tictac4884 are to women who never got laid, live with their parents and share a room with about 50 cats. And as for gdss95 This Moron doesn't know the relationship that Chris Had with his mother. I think You, Mjeand and Eastwood4 are the only People make any sense here.

  • you are probably not a mom so you cannot relate to gdss95's comments. i'm a dude so i have no idea what it would be like to give birth and lose a kid, but some people watched that movie from a moms point of view and that is their opinion, from a mom's point of view. i don't really agree with gdss95 or some other comments here, but again, i'm no mom so i can't see things from that perspective.

  • all of the people who complain, and say that there greater. Theve done biger things and Chris was foolish. it's not so much the story that he died in Alaska. It's how he lived his life before got to Alaska. crossing 2 country's and partaly mexico. If you can do that, the way he did, then you might have somthing to say. if you havent then shut the fuck up

  • i've done that and much, much more, and i can honestly say that i kept in touch with family members when they did not really deserve it but out of decency i did. this chris guy died the way he deserved to die: a wasteful death for a wasteful life.

  • Your Right I'm Not a mom. You call Chris Life wasteful. I bet Your a little 18 year old Virgin ,all wet behind the Ears, Breath smelling like Similac and gdss95's son Right? or Your Gay. You've never done much more than Chris. How Could you with your umbilical cord still attached You Pansy.

  • OOOOH talk about a BURN!! Nice One Springsteenfan. All these Chris McCandless Haters So Need To Get Laid especially Shoemaker or whtever the hell this girl's name is.

  • actually you're wrong on every point. but i can express my opinion without sounding like an angry, frustrated, enraged lunatic. i've lived a full life, how about you? fron your comments, it's obvious you are a victim in your eyes. i'm sorry for you.

  • Oh Ok. Then your actually a chick

  • what do people go see the bus to feel like they were part of his adventure, go find your own

  • i agree whole heartedly.

  • on your first video i hear some little snot say some ill shit about a smell.probl your spoiled ass kid.spoiled asses like you fly out in your heli.that down plays the guys whole adventure and then you bitch about 900 dollars.your a sorry ass.a real adventurer u r buddy.

  • i feel terribly for his mother. we mothers give your lives for our kids...what a selfish fool.

    good job chris

    your mother weeps

  • fuck you you old bitch he died doing what he wanted to do. Respect that.

  • how can you tell someone to respect something and you can't respect another person's point of view? you swear and cuss because someone expressed an opinion???? you make no sense.

  • Totally Agree With You buddy.

  • I see no bridge across that river. Even if there is you clearly dont get the message do you. All you seem to be doing is critisizing Chris mcCandless. Maybe id respect you if you had half the soul he had, but I dont. Im quite confident you dont live a life of purity. Though I hope one day you will. peace and RIP chris

  • It was a gauge station with cable crossing

    Alaskan Park Ranger Peter Christian:

When you consider McCandless from my perspective, you quickly see that what he did wasn't even particularly daring, just stupid, tragic, and inconsiderate. First off, he spent very little time learning how to actually live in the wild. He arrived at the Stampede Trail without even a map of the area. If he had a good map he could have walked out of his predicament ... Essentially, Chris McCandless committed suicide.

  • I for one was glad to see the bus from the air -- it showed the bus had to get there using a ROAD.... and that road had a bridge across the river. Why isn't anyone talking about the bridge downstream ? Also, if he wandered so much how did he miss the survival cabin nearby ? McCandless was a fool and Alaska stung him for showing such hubris. It's happened before....

I live in Alaska with 16 acres for sale only 20 miles from this bus. I know what I'm talking about.

  • finally, someone qualified to know what their talking about! It's unbelievable the hoards of "naturally curious people" who are idealizing this guy. Thank you!

  • What bridge??????? There is NO bridge traveling the Stampede Trail !

  • It was a cable crossing for a river gauge station. That's a bridge. He would have known this if he walked around as much as the movie suggests. He also could have crossed upstream at an easier place.

There is so much wrong with this story. Alaskans like myself who actually live an adventure life get angry because this selfish, stupid kid gets the press when there are MUCH better stories of honor, discovery and strength here. This kid had no honor OR wits.

    Come yourself and find out.

  • Have a f*****g cookie.

  • I dunno it just seems kinda weird how the experience was reduced to this...4 people flying in on a helicopter, wearing T-Shirts and shorts and sounding very disconnected from the whole experience...just a very touristy angle on visiting the bus. A lot of the other vids here seem to give the experience a lot more respect...hate to sound like a prick about it, just how I feel.

  • You're entitled to your opinion, and I understand where you're coming from... As one of the T-shirt wearing "tourists" that shot this video, here's where I was coming from... I addressed my own "guilt" under my "about this video" section of my "Trail to BUS 142" video. PLEASE read that. My visit was my attempt at achieving my own, personal connection to the story. I'm sorry that our wardrobe didn't reflect that for you. The chopper was our only option considering our safety and limited time.

  • I just read that and can respect your view on the matter.

  • why would anyone ever even THINK of wanting to do this?

  • Um, because we're naturally curious people who are interested in what read and enjoy an adventuresome way of life?

  • sounds morbid to me....and starving to death doesn't sound very adventuresome, but whatever floats your boat....

  • Hey guys, is that the Shushana River that Chris couldnt cross in late summer because it was flooded?

  • Did I get it right? $900-USD for 4 person?

  • Yes, it was very expensive, which is why it made us so angry that they would only allow us and equal amount of time on the ground as you spent in the air. It was all the more frustrating when we thought about the fact that there were three other helicopters just sitting on the ground not being used back at the base. And when we asked the pilot if he would have minded staying some extra time without getting paid any more, he said he wouldn't mind at all. Screw the helos, see the bus on foot!!

  • What time of year did you go to the bus?

  • We were there in early September.

  • What died and crawled up your ass? Apparently socialistic jackass land doesn't give you enough to do...

  • I think the pilot's time AND the asset removal was paid for out of the $900, with plenty left for the owner of the business to make a tidy profit. Yes, I wanted to change the deal, which I tried to do before signing the contract, however they wouldn't budge. The policy is LAME! I'm not disputing their right to make it. What I really think is that you should pay me $900 to give me a blowjob, then eat my moron/sophist load. It'll taste salty, you pig.

  • Last time I checked, $900 is not nothing. That's what we paid for the trip; I was simply saying that for our $900 it would have been nice if we could have had a full hour or two on the ground. The company had four helos at their hq sitting on the ground doing nothing... they should have been eager to see to the wishes of the clients they DID have... US! I don't think my wish was unreasonable. Their policy was and is LAME, like your comment.

  • boohoo.shut up u spoiled ass

  • Thank you for posting this video. I just finished reading the book the other day and was deeply touched by it. I have yet to see the movie though. I found myself having a lot in common with Chris. There have been many times in my life where I wish I could just leave behind civilization and just live free.

  • Thanks for sharing this video. I also read the book and now I have seen the bus.

  • Thanks for the videos. I've read the book twice. Didn't picture the bus site like this, though. From the air it looks so different. The bus is up on a hill, with the river so close. I had no idea. I sort of thought he was in a clearing with woods all around, not close to a river. (Guess I should read it a third time, eh?) Anyway, thanks for sharing this.

  • Wow, chris was in a pretty nice area.

I'm going to hike the stampede trail to the bus in 2010.

  • Wow, this is a cool video. Chris McCandless went to my high school. He was way before my time, but some of my teachers knew him. He was in all the top honors classes and was a really good student.

  • all i gotta say is that its amazing what he saw and did in 4 months and when he died i have a faint feeling that he had a good time doin whatever he did and i liked the fact that he FOGUHT THE POWER of the goverment i thought that was pretty cool.

  • A lot of friends have wondered the same thing. I don't believe we shot any mpegs while we were in and around it, only photos, unfortunately. The helicopter charter company had a really lame policy where you could only stay on the ground in whatever destination you'd flown to for an amount of time equal to the amount of flight time you were purchasing.

  • I've read the book, now I actually get to see the bus, thanks a lot for posting this vid. Did you film it up close too, would really like to see that

  • Yeah, it is a pretty sad tale. I share and understand many of the emotions that fueled his wanderlust, so I can relate to him on a very personal level. I don't admire him for the way that he just dropped his family, though, and he was pretty bullheaded in a lot of ways. But I can still draw both inspiration and remorse from his story. Thanks for the comment.
