  • Jesus. They crash land, everyone survives, but HEY! Looks like the damn fire wants to join the party! Damn fire, without it I'm sure EVERYONE would have survived. Gannaway and Warmerdam, you are heroes nonetheless.

  • The flight crew were heroes. They have the "Right Stuff". Gob bless the Captain and the First Officer for what they did that day.

  • How cruel that the passengers should survive the impact then burn trying to escape the wreckage.

  • Good video. Excellent job on betraying the victims and the horror they must have gone through. I don't know what I would do if I were in that situation.

  • what's the song?

  • @as95dc First one is 'Now we are free' from the Gladiator soundtrack (Hans Zimmer, Lisa Gerrard and Klaus Badelt). 2nd is 'Mad World' covered by Gary Jules

  • ROTFLMFAO!!!!..... Well said sparky!

  • @WizardOfChicamunga did i said what i said

  • to me, everything looked fine untill it went off that mini cliff thing just after it landed,. I think if that wasn't there, more people would of survived

  • Q; why didn't hey fuel dump? i know it could take a while but...

  • @machinegunboy98 i thing that plane cloudnt dump the plane

  • Comment removed

  • @machinegunboy98 the memo said 550 feet/min. at that rate, they had a little over three minutes to fuel dump. me bieng a moron about planes, i know nothing about dump rates, but it couldn't be more than 300 gallons of jet fuel iven if they could. it was an accident that was unavoidable after the prop jacked up.

  • @machinegunboy98 I'm not an expert either.. and it is something I've thought about before.. but I don't think gliding a plane down on only one good wing works.. definitely not bigger planes.. you need a certain forward velocity to be able to fly. So my guess is that to make any kind of (semi-)controlled landing, you will need at least one engine to prevent you from just falling out of the sky (happened in holland about 2 years ago: TK1951 ) unless maybe you make the perfect glide in one go..

  • @machinegunboy98 The Embraer Brasilia has no fuel dump feature.

  • @ente75 wouldn't something like that be required in the saftey codes? for small planes it sounds silly but this is the perfect example...

  • im not being mean or anithing but if they turned the other working enjine of the would have more chance of not dieing and they would have better balance, they could glide etc....

  • That was incredible...

  • this video says its dedicated to all those who died abord flight 529

Your are wrong!! ...Nobody died abord, they all survivied the crash!!

then days later 10 people died at the hospital due to injuries

  • why was this recorded... how did they know?

  • what's the name of the two songs?

  • I was a Brasilia FO at ASA when this happened and knew the crew personally. It was a difficult time for all of us, but my heart goes out to those who were injured and to those who lost loved ones.

  • @contrail777 Man I feel so sorry for you. Im a 757 pilot. I lost my friend in American Airlines flight 191 crash.

  • Sad

  • sad

  • In memory of the 9 perished.

  • what is horrible is the amount of spelling mistakes there are in this video

  • A truly shocking crash, I can't begin to imagine how traumatising it was for everyone on board the 529. To the 10 people, especially the Pilot, R.I.P. Were it not for the Pilot, all 29 people on board would've died.

  • sad

  • So sad. My eyes welled up while watching this

  • You don't seem to know much about wing physics, you say that after the left wing failed the left wing became useless, that's not true, a two engined plane should be able to fly on one of it's engines, never heard of one that CANT.

  • @SgtMustang I think you have misunderstood what is being said my friend. A two engined plane will fly on one engine but in this case, the propellor shifted the entire engine to a 45 degree angle. This had a severe effect on the aerodynamics "INEFFECT" made the plane react as if it had lost the use of one of the wings. Propellor trim, ailerons, rudder was doing nothing. If it was just an engine failure, why do you think they crashed?

  • God, I vividly remember those brasilias, they were some of my favorites...

  • Amazing CGI re-enactment.

Sorry to see the accident, although the knowledge gained from the analysis has prevented greater tragedy.

  • that crash was absolutly horible so sorry to the people who died for tis stupid reason people dont deaserve that totture

  • I ran this call, my ambulance was second on the scene, it was unlike anything you can imagine. some people were burned beyond recognition, others looked good enough to walk into a business meeting. It was crazy how drastic the differences were in the injuries. I will never forget it, the sounds, the smell, trying to get the co-captain out of the burning wreckage through the window. Until you see where they landed this plane you will never understand how good the pilot was. It was a miracle.

  • my friend steve wilkinson, who was a minister, was on that plane and died a few months after the crash. this is a beautiful dedication to the memory of those who died on Flight 529.. thanks for posting this!

  • this is from the show mayday, one of the pilots get out alive and a handful of passengers live also. rip to the rest of them and great effort on the pilots side. At least not everyone was lost.

  • WOW!!! Fantastic video!

  • right at 3:55 my heart stoped an i almost started crying T_T

  • Very Nice Tribute.. RIP Captain Ganaway, and the others that died..

  • To save you guys time , there was metal fattigue in the left engine blade which wasnt picked up by the maintence crew . im pretty sure when the blade was made the fattigue happened . so it was even before the blade got on that plane . then BLOODY BANG , no but seriously thats what happened :)

  • @Imprezagtto

you are SO WRONG!! the metal fatigue in the left engine WAS DETECTED BY THE MAINTENCE CREW, and for that reason it was recalled and "fix" by the manufacturer

The problem was that they did not do the job right

Also a new propellor does not have "metal fatigue", this happens over time when the blade gets cracks, corrosion etc ....you really don't know anything about planes!!... talk to a pilot!!!

  • LOL go fuck yourself . what are you a teacher ? yeah im sooo stupid thats why i watch all of the episodes . big deal made a mistake . take a breath and move on . thanks :)

  • To know what happend, type in flight 529 pt 1.

  • i subbed please sub back ;D

  • The first song is:

"Now we are Free" sung by Lisa Girard

Sound track #17 from the movie: Gladiator.

  • I saw this on a Discovery Channel show - is this video ripped off? No mention or credit to whom the footage belongs...

  • i really feel sorry for every human who died in plane crash i love airplanes but i can immagine how scary is to past away like that and when i travel i always have that on my mind even for few min but always

  • rip

  • all these crashes are related to the plans inspector that is sad.

  • terrorist kinda sorta a little bit slightly destroyed my city....and i do believe it was muslim extremists who did it....kill the muslims...and kill people who look like muslims just for purposeley looking like muslims

  • idiot

  • Captain Ed Gannoway, true hero!..

  • This is so sad. I love the EMB-120's i see them every day. It's good that hamilton standard is doing better inspections. R.I.P. Passengers and crew.

  • i would of shut off the right engine so then im not being forced to go left due to the engione still being on and you have yourslef a glider with hopefully a little more control

  • Considering that the pilot landed the plane in the safest way possible due to years of experience, I think you should rethink your ignorant and rude response. When the plane landed, everyone was alive. A fire tore through the plane after impact, which is common, and what caused fatalities. Since this pilot's heroic and brave choices were what caused the plane to stabilize rather than nosedive, and save my uncle who was on board, I appreciate him and everything he did in his last moments.

  • canadianpilot09 has an idea and is suggesting a different way of handling the situation. You can agree or explain why the idea is wrong in your opinion, but there is no need for personal insults.

  • well u think of how fast they were going, ya up to 350 knots, the ppl would have died from wip-lash, but now u gonna say it cant go that fast, gravity and the waght of the plane, and glidability would maake it go that fast, care to prove me wrong

  • Every armchair quarterback should save his 2 cents and read niccakolio's post again.

Shutting off your only operating engine would be an idiotic thing to do, especially when you are essentially flying on one wing. That Brasilia was only marginally controllable yet they crew managed to get it on the ground with EVERYONE alive when it came to a stop in that field. Being second guessed by Keyboard Captains is an insult to both Matt Warmerdam and the memory of Ed Gannoway.

  • @smash29 Plus we can now see the full picture. At the time they didn't understand why a failed engine would pull the plane so violently to the left. That was because of the broken off propeler hub. The captain had experience flying this type of plane with only one engine, but never expierienced such a violent bank.

  • Furthermore, canadianpilot09, it's probably much easier to sit on a comfy computer chair in the safety of your own home and purport what you would have done in a circumstance you have never lived through, but in all likelihood, if you are ignorant enough to respond saying how it should have been handled, you're probably still a novice pilot and I wouldn't want to place my life in your hands with such self-righteous comments as that.

  • @canadianpilot09

You are so stupid!!! So I'm sure of 2 things:

    You are Not a pilot

    and YES.. YOU ARE CANADIAN!!!

....No doubt about that JA JA

  • Nice tribute - RIP.

  • Yes, there was a fire and that's what claims lives in a lot of otherwise survivable crashes. I've walked through the wreckage of a burned out aircraft and it's pretty obvious just how intense the fire gets...not to mention a bit scary when you make your living driving these things. The drivers onboard this particular flight did a really great job under the cicumstances. Dealing with so much drag all of a sudden could be very disorientating. Caps off to them both.

  • the wing is still attached?

  • mmm very weird there was no fire?

  • did you not see the flames? well, the little sparking wires ignited fuel, so yes there was.

  • Gary Pomerantz has written a new book on the ASA 529 disaster that makes for gripping reading. As far as I'm concerned, the pilots did an unbelievably phenomenal job of handing the damaged aircraft. Wherever you are, Robin Fech, you deserve a medal of valor. In their grief, some family members have lashed out at convenient targets, but most of us who've read the book know the truth. Be at peace.

  • The book was actually published in 2002. It is titled "Nine Minutes and 20 Seconds" which was the amount of time from the engine/prop blowing and the time the plane hit the ground.

  • normally when a plane drop on the bottom it would explode so i think its a fake video because i don't so...

    but it's nice stuff

  • nice stuff theres nothing nice bout a plane crash and ppl dieing dude...

  • What is the name of both songs, in the beginning and the end?

  • The first song is "Now We Are Free" from The Gladiator Movie soundtrack. The second song is "Mad World" by Gary Jules. Both can be downloaded on Itunes.

  • WOW good video. nearly mad my friend cry

  • The pilots on this flight were trapped in the cockpit after the crash. The cockpit door was blocked and unusable and the escape exits, DV windows, would not open. If that wasn't bad enough, the crash axe was used in an attempt to break a window and the axe handle broke after just a few strikes at the glass. The FO was pulled, badly burned from the aircraft, but the Captain died in the cockpit before they could get him out. Tragic.

  • Wow, it's like you were in a helicopter follwoing the plane.

  • i saw the documentary of this.

  • what is the song???

  • The song is called Now We Are Free by Lisa Gerred

  • Wow that is so sad! Did u get that fotage from mayday? anyways beutful video, so sad though!

  • brilliant

  • wow. those passengers are lucky as fuck. i wouldve cried that whole downfall, i thought i wouldve died. that mustve been an amazing landing

  • it would sooo have ti suck to be on that plane as a passenger look out and see ur engine all mangled like that........itd be you look out and just think..."oh......shit"

  • Great Video.. Yes I have to agree with below statement,, Awesome Animation

  • WOW! Very realistic animation. I feel sad for the ones that died.

    R.I.P

  • its unnerving that with all the inspections on planes, people still miss stuff such as metal fatigue. Good video, horrifying accident

  • Thats why they need parachutes instead of floatation devices. I'd bail the F%$& out of that crap. El stupido airplane makers.

  • @Judadiah

I'd like to see you jump out of a plane doing 350 + MPH.

Such fantasies. I bet you couldn't even keep your cool if your car lost traction on a patch of ice.

  • Losing an engine is not the equivalent of losing a wing. Losing 5,500 feet per minute in a dive is going downward at 60 miles per hour. That's not staggering.

  • how did the engine failed?

  • Metal fatigue... causing the metal piece holding the propeller to snap

  • @sdfjsdhgfj

Watch the video and read the explanation and if you still don't get it, play it again and again until you do

    You can do it!!

  • yeh but only one person died, if u watch air crash investigation they tell u the investigation about it. only the left pilot lost his life due to being unconcious by the impact and couldnt gain conciousness and also fire burned him and loss of oxygen in the atmosphere. so get ur facts right.

  • No more people died than 1

  • I thought more died. And the left pilot is usually the captain.

  • The ignorance apparent in this post is absolutely staggering...

  • question....could the damage have been reduced if the engines would have been off and the flaps on 45????

  • Comment removed

  • no because the airflow is not stable on one side of the plane. so the plane will not gain any lift

  • no flaps thats what killed the other prop plane recently with iceing. when the plane is flying dont change anything..45 degrees of flaps you better have the power to back it up...

  • You are a know-nothing fact-devoid second-guesser.

  • you know what . why dont you go fu-k yourself. how do you like that you devoid asshole

  • ahhhhhhhhhahahahaha Exactly the response I expected from a know-nothing.

  • ...deddles makes a good point. The attitude of the airplane at impact is the cause of all the damage. By cutting power and decreasing lift on the right wing they might have been able to level it out. I watched a guy land a jet with one main gear still in the well...when the wing hit the ground it made a hell of a mess. He would have been better off bellying in.

  • It wasn't a lost wing, BP. It was a prop failure.

  • God Bless

  • I am a maintenence worker who works on all types of planes and we have been told loads thats chlorine can get inside the prop blades and in time they can fracture this is what happened here

  • thanks for keeping us safe.

  • Sad, really sad...

  • Yeahhhh! What are the names of the songs?

  • May god bless the ppl on this flight So sad "rip" :(

  • It is amazing how much knowledge is built into today´s airplanes.

It is sad that so many people needed to die for us to fly safer.

  • the pilots where knocked out cues they hit the steering collem of the bencheft king air

  • what are the names of the songs?

  • To EeikSchimer1, i think it is , Now We are Free by Lisa Gerhard there are lots of videos on YT with this song as background just enter in search field.

  • flat belly crash was a good idea atleast people survied the crash instead of KABOOM!

  • The engine didn't just stop turning. The larger problem was that when it failed, it dislodged the engine assembly itself. In doing so, the wing was deformed and was no longer fully providing the lift it was designed to do. That's why it crashed after the engine failure. Had the engine simply halted, it is correct that the aircraft would likely have been able to continue on just fine on a single engine.

  • Some time back I read a multi-part story on this crash that was printed in the major Atlanta paper. One of the survivors told of a guy (who I think later died of his burns, but was walking around after the crash) who said to the guy "why aren't YOU burned?" Sorry the guy died, but he must've been a real jerk to say that. Studies always show that one should GET OUT of a burning plane as soon as possible without trying to help others, for the best results, i.e. least casualties.

  • Jerk?...you are a philistine tool...ever heard of shock?

  • Not only are all twin -engine *airliners* required to be able to fly safely on one engine, they are also required to be able to *take-off* on only one engine.

  • OMG write much . haha . i dont like little planes cuz they seem less safe . like if your in a bigger plane then maybe youd have somewhat of a chance ? unlike in a little plane . okay lets put it as driving a little volkswagon compared to a commodore . theres like mass difference . isnt there more turbulence in smaller aircraft anyways ? tar

  • i dont like props . they are scary .

  • i don't get it..! - why the hell it fall dawn if it has had second engine ok..??! - this plane must was totaly mistake if he coudin't fly in one engine.. - this construction shouldn't fly anyway...

  • It will only fly with the prop in feather. The engine was thrown sideways into the wing, effectively rendering the left wing useless and the airplane unflyable.

  • "Although the EMB 120 is designed to fly with one engine inoperative, the distortion of the engine resulted in excessive drag and loss of lift on the left side of the aircraft, causing it to rapidly lose altitude."

  • sorry for those ppl that died...but the reenactement was pretty cool

  • WOW! the captain was smart enough to land a plane on it's belly, but sadly he died :(

  • oh so sad may god bless their souls. Rest in peace.

thank u for this clip pal.

  • i saw a crash with the same cause, the Mt.Pinatubo that is Ramon Magsaysay's private plane, crashed on the foot of a mountain on Mindanao, because of the same unknown metal fatigue.

  • Fantastic video. I was a pilot for ASA when this occurred and personally knew one of the pilots and the FA. Watching this made the hair stand up on my neck. Great job!

  • May the souls who were lost never be forgotten. Rest in Peace. This video is very touching this is what you pray never happens.

  • soory to the people who died

  • ...and may the souls' of the faithfully departed through the mercy of God rest in peace...

  • how Exactly did the piotets die it didn't look like they would of died but i don't know i guess it was alot wors than it looks this has gotta be a rerun because there wasn't even people in the plane as passangers

  • I believe initially only the pilot on the left seat died from the crash. But about 15 or so passengers died from burn wounds some time after this event.

  • was was going to say I don't even remember this but I wasn't born for another year so i was like oh thats just great!

  • Its unfortunate that the captain never knew how much of a hero he is - a similear incedent occured i think, but everyone onboard was killed. the captainstill managed to save the lives of 19 people

    RIP

  • what are the second song name????

  • gary jules - mad world

  • Touching.

  • What was the song at the end called

    RIP

  • I really cried by this one :'(!

    Its so sad...

    Rest In Peace all <3<3!

    *cry even more*

  • R.I.P EVERY one who lost

  • The first officer's last words recorded on the cockpit voice recorder was 'Amy, I love you'. So sad.

  • the first officer was luckier than the captain. at least he survived. the captain died while strapped into his seat.

  • R.I.P

  • reallly sad video, rest in peace all the ones who passed. after seeing this video, i felt my heart thumping real hard and im not kidding

  • oh... that's so sad...

    I was nearly crying....

R I P all of them , who died in this crash...

those who survived.. I think their live did change after that crash... it's so sad :(

  • That was a truly amazing video, that captain did a great job its sad to see that he did not make it.

Great video 5/5 RIP all that lost their lives

  • i thought twin engine planes like these were designed to be able to fly fine on a singe engine?

  • They are, the plane crashed because the wing was damaged when the prop blade broke.

  • Yes, That's if the engine just stops.

In this case the engine exploded and damaged the wing extremely badly.

  • it is true it was on discrvey channel

  • This vidio have parts taken from the program Air Crash Investigation of National Geografic

  • are u serious?

  • this really got me.

    i was nearly crying.

was that a remake of the crash or the actual crash.

My heart is with the families

  • did that really look liken the actual crash to you?

  • The footage would have been a reconstuction of the crash. There wouldnt have been footage like that of the actual crash.

  • and yeah there has been a similar trouble like this but

#1 on the other aircraft the pilots weren't experienced

#2 it was a tail adjustment screw that came loose

#3 they plunged into the ocean and no survivors from the impact this many deaths included a baby as well R I P to all of these 2 flights.

  • evilsmiley, the other accident yur describing sounds exactly like alaska 261. lemme just say that the crew was highly experienced, there just wasnt a thing they, or any pilot in the world couldve done to recover that plane.

they werent even the same type of plane either

  • the song fitted i coulnt be on that flight i mean 10 mins knowin they where going to crash and just sitted there i would pass out

  • well its a pretty good film explaining it all etc, but a tribute?

if i wanted my lost relations to have a tribute made about them, i wouldn't ask for a film explaining exactly how they died.

    good film anyways.

  • Minig., You are right.

My first impressions were "a tribute!" it was too dramatic. I doubt any relative would want to see that, it would reopen the healed wound left by grievance. I myself felt sympathetic to know that this is am actual true story.

  • "LOST" serie

  • the first thing i would do is shut down the right engine and glide through

  • I'm glad you're not a pilot.
