Chelsea had some technicality but that's all she ever had. The emotion never quite made it and the judges saw that. the right couple won - GO HINES AND KYM!!!
this is dancing with the stars, the popular ones mostly win it, not always the best dancers. when the public is involved in the voting, it means more people are watching and of course those with interest in the stars will watch and vote. same is true with american idol. hey, that's how you get higher ratings.
Seriously, this show has gone downhill since Season 10, very quickly. Season 8 and 9 ended ridiculously, then Season 10 show it still had promises. But these past two seasons have just been another popularity contest instead being about whose the best dancer.
I think Kym's white boots were a good prop to use, as it really helps to define the lifts especially the one at 1:48-1:50. Unfortunately I felt that Chelsea and Mark's light show hurt more than helped because stunts like that are meant to show off how in sync you are with your partner/team/music, and it showed that her movements where slightly (just ever so slightly, but now noticeable) off at times, and not as big as Mark's (which isn't necessarily her fault).
this is awesome because our marching band show this year was the Jackson 5 and when they were pointing at the judges, that was part of the routine where the colorguard pointed at the audience :D
the guys on this show have it much easier. They hold up the females and say hey look isn't she pretty. Hines is a good dancer but all the really hard stuff is always executed by his partner. I feel like there should be one male winner and one female almost because their roles in ballroom dancing are so completely different.
@theoneandonlyCatseye Part of me agrees with this comment as you said "their roles are completely different" which is so true. My problem with this is, the reason people think guys have it easier is because the girls get to do all of the pretty stuff and are like the picture and the guy is the frame. Both parts are equal. The guy part is hard because if you are told to lift the girl and you aren't strong enough to do that, then it won't be executed as nicely.

@Flareboxx you can't really compare the two because the man and woman play different roles in ballroom dancing. the man is the "frame" and the woman is the "picture." if it wasn't for hines, kym wouldn't be able to do all her lifts, for example. he made his role look easy which is why so many people say that he wasn't a very good dancer. plus, chelsea has experience in dance...hines didn't
@Flareboxx Don't quite know what your talking about. The only time I pay attention to Kym is when he was flipping her in the air. The rest of the time my eyes were glued to Hines and the way he dances with that huge smile on his face. Chelsea was good technically but shes in her 20s and is a female, of course shes going to dance in a different way than Hines. She was good but dancing is about more than just technique, Hines just had such a great personality that shined thru his dancing.

@Flareboxx Its not so much a negative response as a disagreement. While Kym is obviously the professional dancer and so will dance really well, I just love the way that Hines dances. For a football player with no dance training he dances damn good. He's like the only one who really made me smile while watching him dance, bc I think its good dancing from what I expected of him as a football player with no dance experience.

Frankly, I'm happy Chelsea didn't win either. She is a good dancer, for sure, but there was something about her attitude, at times, when the judged offered constructive criticism. Kym is gorgeous! She's like a twirly, sparkly, bendy Barbie doll. Those are some pretty impressive lifts, especially for someone injured enough to still be wearing a neck brace. Great job, girl ;-)
Thank you Codebear4 for posting "Hines Ward & Kym Johnson - Freestyle". Hines Ward and Kym Johnson created and delivered an exciting and wonderful performance. Everything was so well executed. The costumes were perfect. Hines and Kym have been through so much over the past several weeks due to Kym's injury. They are courageous and in the moment. Hines should be so proud of his industrious accomplishments. They appear to really connect well with one another and are so respectful to each other.
As one of those "band moms" whose kids were struttin' their stuff during half-time after working countless hours in class and on the practice field, thank you, thank you, thank you Hines for being the one to recognize their contribution. We love ya!

This freestyle was original!! Mark and Chelsea's was so predictable. He wanted to show off their youth, but did it ever occur to him that not everyone is real impressed with a lot of the youth these days. Kristie's didn't make much sense to me. . .and in an interview, Max said they did the lifts 'cause it was expected.

This was excellent!! You have to be familiar with half time college football to really get the understanding behind it, but pretty much every thing they did you could see on the field at a halftime show. add in the ball room dancing.. EXCELLENT. original, entertaining.. Hine for the WIN!! He and Kym are fantastic.. THAT's chemistry and a partnership.!

I remember once watching a Drum Corp Competition (different style of marching), and they strapped a heart monitor on one of the drummers...he was working at the level of an Olympic Athlete!!! First time in the series that there has been 2 perfect scores in the freestyle round.
Chelsea and Hines each have the exact same score (29 for judges redemption/30 for freestyle). So really, it's all about votes this season finale, thank goodness. HINES for the WIN!! :)
@starrbeatlesqueen Hopefully. They still have their repeat dance, which only gets judges scores, and instead of scoring them individually, they get ranked. Hopefully the fan vote is too big for that to overcome, because I think Hines has a leg up on Kirstie and Chelsea, fan base wise. He's re-doing his samba, which the judges loved before and gave him the encore on. Chelsea and Kirstie are each doing their previous cha chas I heard. I'm cha chaed out this season.
@bubblykids Kym has always done good freestyles-Joey Fatone, Warren Sapp, Donny, and now Hines. She keeps the freestyle round interesting. Otherwise, it would have been dull tonight. Mark's was nothing special. I give Kirstie a lot of credit and respect for hanging in there so well. Hines/Kym have been such a fantastic partnership-no drama between them, no sour attitudes over judges criticisms, listening and learning. And they're sweet as heck!
loved it, loved it, and yes, one freestyle to remember. I think its the best of all I seen. I am a Steelers fan and would admit if Chelsea's was better. But, nope it wasnt, this dance takes the cake. So well choreographed, just everything. I could not get sick of watching this over and over! Go Hines! If anyone votes for Kirstie to win it all, it wil be sad, for Bristol did better than her last time and got rightfully placed in 3rd at the end of it all. Kirstie just didnt do much this time.
This was the best dance of the night! Kym knows how to do a freestyle. She made it fun and entertaining, yet original. No over done gimmicks or out dancing your partner and making it about her. I gave them all my votes, and hope they take it. Mark's was predictable and so messy and out of sync that it was laughable it'd get a 30. The only dance that deserved that perfect score was this one. Hopefullythe producers don't manipulate the scores to have Mark win tomorrow. Hines for the win!
Little Miss Disney fish lips had professional dance and needs to mature more, she's built like a boy. No waist! Kirstie doesn't really want it. Hines worked his butt off, & Kym nearly broke her neck ! Hines & Kym take it!
chelsea and mark's was too predictable...i had a feeling they were doing a hip-hop routine and wasn't surprised that they did one. this one was something risky and different and maybe not as youthful as chelsea's, but still fun to watch
@MiamiPinkReflex I get so tired of Mark saying they're trying to be young and edgy. The more they saw it, and pull the stunts they do, the more obvious it is they're really trying to act like that but aren't pulling it off. Chelsea got lost during the dance, Mark out danced her, they were out of sync for some of it. It was a mess. What was with the lights and bike? I'm in my 20s but Mark doesn't appeal to me at all.
This freestyle was so much better than Chelsea and Mark's. Which was very out of sync. Hines had so much fun with this. I love his smile and enthusiasm.
Oh, and for anybody who doesn't quite understand this performance, check out the movie DRUMLINE...it'll totally make sense to you! (Catch the Michael Jackson pose at 2:49 after the moonwalk...Loved that!)
Anybody who knows anything about Big Ten Marching Band, knows that this was an INCREDIBLE recreation of the real deal. Kudos to Kym on the choreography and Hines for "crossing the line" - because usually the football team disses the band (even though the band supports the football team during their games...crazy, I know!) Thank you Codebear4 for posting "Hines Ward & Kym Johnson - Freestyle". Hines Ward and Kym Johnson created and delivered an exciting and wonderful performance. Everything was so well executed. The costumes were perfect. Hines and Kym have been through so much over the past several weeks due to Kym's injury. They are courageous and in the moment. Hines should be so proud of his industrious accomplishments. They appear to really connect well with one another and are so respectful to each other.

look at the views of this video...as of this moment 3, 896 views compared to mark and chelsea's freestyle of 303. it only shows how many people are following this guy. steeler nation supports him and fan across US. hope they voted for him too. he is the most consistent celebrity throughout this season. for me he won the mirror ball trophy with his argentine tango last week. this is just icing on the cake.

@lhenpop They actually have 4,036 views, but yeah... you're right. I hate admitting that. Breaks my heart to be honest, because Chelsea and Mark are my favorite couple ever on dancing with the stars. I have to admit that I believe Hines will win.

Good for them!!! but i still think hines and kym have a strong fan base... both females and males (though guys don't want to admit it hehe). and if mr. ward get ms. alley's voters...it is over for chealsea. chealsea is a great dancer since day 1. everybody knows that. but it became predictable somewhat boring. sad to say...this is a popularity vote and hines showed consistency, charm matching with the greatest improvement among celebrities. we'll see.

This freestyle was original!! Mark and Chelsea's was so predictable. He wanted to show off their youth, but did it ever occur to him that not everyone is real impressed with a lot of the youth these days. Kristie's didn't make much sense to me. . .and in an interview, Max said they did the lifts 'cause it was expected.
Loved this freestyle - and loved how they acknowledged the "drumline" from Crenshaw Hi School in Los Angeles!!! These 2 got ALL my votes!

This was excellent!! You have to be familiar with half time college football to really get the understanding behind it, but pretty much every thing they did you could see on the field at a halftime show. add in the ball room dancing.. EXCELLENT. original, entertaining.. Hine for the WIN!! He and Kym are fantastic.. THAT's chemistry and a partnership.!

LOVED IT!!!!!!! Being part of a big ten school marching band in the 80's, I understand what is put into the performances. We worked as hard as any sports team. Go FIGHTING ILLINI!!! Go Hines and Kym!!!!!

I remember once watching a Drum Corp Competition (different style of marching), and they strapped a heart monitor on one of the drummers...he was working at the level of an Olympic Athlete!!! Kym always makes her freestyles entertaining & interesting. She knows what formulas work, that's why she's my fave pro. This freestyle made me smile the most. It was something different & the lifts weren't too risky.

First time in the series that there has been 2 perfect scores in the freestyle round.
Chelsea and Hines each have the exact same score (29 for judges redemption/30 for freestyle). So really, it's all about votes this season finale, thank goodness. HINES for the WIN!! :)

@starrbeatlesqueen Hopefully. They still have their repeat dance, which only gets judges scores, and instead of scoring them individually, they get ranked. Hopefully the fan vote is too big for that to overcome, because I think Hines has a leg up on Kirstie and Chelsea, fan base wise. He's re-doing his samba, which the judges loved before and gave him the encore on. Chelsea and Kirstie are each doing their previous cha chas I heard. I'm cha chaed out this season.

@bubblykids Kym has always done good freestyles-Joey Fatone, Warren Sapp, Donny, and now Hines. She keeps the freestyle round interesting. Otherwise, it would have been dull tonight. Mark's was nothing special. I give Kirstie a lot of credit and respect for hanging in there so well. Hines/Kym have been such a fantastic partnership-no drama between them, no sour attitudes over judges criticisms, listening and learning. And they're sweet as heck!

loved it, loved it, and yes, one freestyle to remember. I think its the best of all I seen. I am a Steelers fan and would admit if Chelsea's was better. But, nope it wasnt, this dance takes the cake. So well choreographed, just everything. I could not get sick of watching this over and over! Go Hines! If anyone votes for Kirstie to win it all, it wil be sad, for Bristol did better than her last time and got rightfully placed in 3rd at the end of it all. Kirstie just didnt do much this time.

This was the best dance of the night! Kym knows how to do a freestyle. She made it fun and entertaining, yet original. No over done gimmicks or out dancing your partner and making it about her. I gave them all my votes, and hope they take it. Mark's was predictable and so messy and out of sync that it was laughable it'd get a 30. The only dance that deserved that perfect score was this one. Hopefullythe producers don't manipulate the scores to have Mark win tomorrow. Hines for the win!

chelsea and mark's was too predictable...i had a feeling they were doing a hip-hop routine and wasn't surprised that they did one. this one was something risky and different and maybe not as youthful as chelsea's, but still fun to watch

@MiamiPinkReflex I get so tired of Mark saying they're trying to be young and edgy. The more they saw it, and pull the stunts they do, the more obvious it is they're really trying to act like that but aren't pulling it off. Chelsea got lost during the dance, Mark out danced her, they were out of sync for some of it. It was a mess. What was with the lights and bike? I'm in my 20s but Mark doesn't appeal to me at all.

Anybody who knows anything about Big Ten Marching Band, knows that this was an INCREDIBLE recreation of the real deal. Kudos to Kym on the choreography and Hines for "crossing the line" - because usually the football team disses the band (even though the band supports the football team during their games...crazy, I know!) WELL DONE! HINES/KYM FTW!!!
