I love that you take the time to do your homework. The ninth surah does make it clear that the order to fight was against those who had fought against and expelled the Muslims first. I am a new muslim and i'm glad to see people out there tryin 2 educate others by using youtube although there are alot of videos showing peoples' hatred amongst Islam. however i believe you are doin the right thing! I also agree with ur reply back 'we all need 2 learn more about Islam', there is always more to learn and more to teach about Islam and not any one will ever know it all!
