God bless Tim Richmond, Hope he is driving up there, Against Both Earnhardt's, Adam Petty, Davey Allison, Alan Kulwiki, J.D McDuffie, Neil Bonnet And Kenny Irwin Jr.
Had Richmond not passed away early in his career, He and Harry Hyde would have won a bunch of Championships. He could get more out of a car than anybody. Still have a Old Milwaukee poster of him in race room
One of the few rare views of another NASCAR legend. True sportsmanship went Tim helps the mad who spun him out to the ambulance.BTW Dale Sr would have helped Tim if things were reversed...
This may be hard to believe, but I saw this from turn 2 right next to the old "Winston" camera box if anyone remembers it. I was 12 and climbed up the hiill just outside the track to watch a few laps after hanging around the pits (There was only a fence separating the fans from the pits.SO awesome!) The camera man caught my attention when she shouted "OH MY GOD" then I saw the carnage with my favorite racer, D.E. wrecking. Thought he was dead.
This was the first NASCAR race i went to watch live. Great finish to this race. Allison leading Waltrip and Petty with the 3 nose to tail. With 3 laps to go Petty pits for a splash of gas and falls 1/2 track behind. On the last lap going down the long pond straight Waltrip starts to run out of gas and everyone is expecting Allison to run out also. But he doesn't . Petty finishes second. This race ushered in the "gas mileage" era. Gary Nelson is Allisons Crew Chief. LOL.
another 1 crashed by earnhardt.if he did not crash every good drive he would never have 7.race after race thats all u c him crashing the best cars so he would have no one to race
Tim was a good man and a great driver, nascar screwed Tim and I never gave them another dime of my money because of what they did to Tim. Fuk nascar then and now......................
We all know Dale broke his leg in this accident. It amazes me how little the newer nascar fans know about Dale Sr and/or Tim Richmond not much if anything at all and thats a damn shame!
your right ,richmond knew it too,but dale didnt want anyone too know about it because he knew they wouldnt let him race the next week.Today they applaud hamlin for driving after knee surgery..lol or you see drivers getting out of their ride because of a stomach flu. Earnhardt drove with a broken leg and didnt tell any one!!
Pls watch all the video. Dale lost his brakes. Not "dirty dirving" Tim said it himself. I do find it funny that most seem to forget all the times people tried and yes somtimes did turn Dale around but you didn't hear Dale bitching about it. The marks were not only on the front bumper of the number 3 but that back bumper as well.
I guess Donnie Allison, Cale Yarbaugh and all the greats were Dirty drivers to. they used to beat the snot of the cars in the 80's 70's and 60's. the single file racing came about here recently. and don't forget ole Bill Elliotts narrowed cheatbird for a bogus speed record. people still bashing Dale, I can see him grinning about that now. Earnhardt was the dirtiest driver in NASCAR history. It takes skill to pass somebody clean. Anybody can go out there and knock somebody out of the way
No Beavis, it takes a faster car. In most races Earnhardt didn't have the car to win, but he had the will and the balls to take what he wanted. 7 cups and 76 victories. Enough said.
So you're saying "If you can't beat 'em wreck 'em!"? I was following stock car racing before there was a Dale Earnhardt. I've see drivers with lesser cars win and pass people without wrecking them. You can believe whatever you want, it doesn't make you accurate.

Pnemonia from a weakend immune system because of AIDS. He spread that stuff to other women as well. I don't see him as a class act as some describe. Ask the parents of the young women who he bedded while he was infected!
Dale, the movie, had some interesting side stories to this, all of which were true(not hollywood):earnhardt had a broken knee after this. he chose to have surgery so he could compete in the next event, and he told people not to tell anyone he was going into surgery, because nascar wouldn't let him race until it healed.
noone knows when nascar found out, but dale raced the next weekend.
Wrangler's advertising campaign back then fit earnhardt so damn well: "One Tough Customer."
Its not on this clip, but if you watch "dale the movie" you will see after Richmond helped Earnhardt into the ambulance he slamed the door shut and pointed at him in a angerly way-he only helped him because he was a gentelman.
Whats this? another video of Earnhardt taking someone out. What was his excuse this time-brakes going out? Typical-almost killed Richmond in the process. Oh and dont expect NASCAR to do anything about it back then-he was the "chosen one" by Bill France Jr and Humprey Wheeler. That driver created alot of excitment for the fans and $ for nascar.
Good luck getting Earnhardt out of his rascar if he was still here, he raced with so many broken bones, I'm sure he would race as long as he possible could.

i mean he could of lifted and get tim richmond coming off the corner instead of dive bombing his car in the corner like a mad man i mean what the hell, was dale trying to kill him or somethin?
Almost every wreck he was involved in -he caused. He finally did himself in at Daytona in 2001, doing the same thing he had being doing for years. Its ashame they tried blaming Marlin.
How many times have you heared Earnhardt say "my brakes failed" or "I just wanted to rattle his cage"? He is and always was a dirty driver, the only reason he got away with it was because he could relate to the common "redneck" fan, which was the majority.
Earnhardt didnt say his brakes failed, Richmond did... He could do more with a racecar than anyone else could... He was so talented he just wanted to make it fun to watch for the fans

Ironically enough, Earnhardt not only drove this #15 for Bud Moore, he had previously driven the JD Stacy owned #2 that Tim Richmond is piloting in this crash. Earnhardt won the 1980 championship driving the #2 under the ownership of Rod Osterlund, but Osterlund sold the team to Stacy 16 races into the '81 season, and Earnhardt and Stacy never saw eye to eye.
