lbion makes the toughest, best constructed most historically accurate swords on the market................just a beautiful product thats worth every penny............not to mention an exceedingly beautiful product at that.......
ive narrowed it down to the vigil, the reeve and the sherriff for my first albion purchase........its gonna be hard to choose between those 3.............
and even harder to save enough scratch to purchase one.......
These are all swords from Albion, a american company that makes swords designed by a swedish guy. However, the sword types range from viking to late medieval german.
Hmm these are all Albion swords. Mostly out of their Next gen collection. First the viking swords, then the one handed medieval swords and then the medieval hand-and a half swords. and finally the museum line swords.
I LOVE swords and anything medieval, thanks for posting. I just read on google that there are three parts to a sword hilt: the guard, grip and pommel (from top to bottom). And that the strip that goes in the hilt is called the tang...dont know why anyone would call it a tang.

Yeah actually Japs had the highest strength in their samurai swords, They put so many layers of metal on top of eachother, hammered them down, and added more by folding it over.
the folding doesn't make the steel any stronger, but spreads the carbon content more even throughout the material, making it more homogenious.that's important for the heat treating process.that was not neccesary with european steel from approx the 13th century on, because due to the different smelting process the carbon was distibuted more even.before that steel had to be refined the same way as in japan. so, japanese blades were in no way any stronger than european ones. that's a myth.
Correct. In fact, Katanas are much less capable of withstanding enemy blows than the european longsword, due mostly to the thickness and shape of the blade. It had a soft spine which prevented breakage, and one hard edge for quick cutting, but in a fight I would much rather be the one with a longsword than a katana.
Well, in some respects the metalwork of a well made katana was better than most well made European blades. However, the biggest advantages of European swords over Katanas are that the European swords have 2 edges, are much better balanced thanks to the pommel, have a cross guard to parry attacks and were lighter in comparison. (The whole weapon is usually both as heavy, but one has to realise that the european blades also have a pommel and a cross guard)
the european swords are heavier than a katana but they don't feel like it because they are better balanced. they have a much wider blade than a katana its just a whole lot of metal
@xkrapfui not quite actually. the folding was to squash all the slag out of the bloom steel. thus removing weakening impurities. carbon migration can be fast enough under the right/wrong conditions for folding to be pretty much moot. migration is heavily dependent on the temperature, time and the alloy. folded steels can indeed keep a difference in carbon content if the smith is careful.
carbon can move up to 1cm per minute at the right conditions. on a sword thus is very fast.
@xkrapfui very interesting comment...i was always lead to believe that katanas were second to none...i will surely redirect my thoughts on the subject...thanks for this point of view.

Technically it should read 'Sword hilt'. The hilt is the handle of sword or dagger.

Not really true, the 'typical' longsword would be a little lighter than the 'typical' katana, and the one handed swords lighter still.
