  • one of my all time favorite Metallica songs. Really captures the feel of the Call of Cthulhu story. couple of interesting things I haven't seen others mention before: HP Lovecraft was a writer from the 1920s who wrote mostly short stories. Cthulhu is only actually mentioned in the one story, The Call of Cthulhu. Also, the "Call" came to Cthulhu's potential followers thru dreams (or nightmares) which the Metallica song really seems to capture the feel of to me. ps-Palendre is the man

  • beginnig is slightly different, but...sorry Maestro, i`m poor&stupid ;-P peace from Poland

  • @machinianfpro its different because they are not original versions of the songs...

  • =OOOOOOOOOOOO

  • he's not playing it right but Dang! I watch everything he does.

  • @TheToxicDecay is it a joke ? hehehe

  • what a boss

  • You sir are awesome. As I have grown from child to teen and into adulthood I've noticed how some of my friends have begun to shy away from things they did in our teens and 20's. Now at 33 I think other than being married 10 years and having a child that I'm pretty much the same as I was in those days. And you are showing the world that you are who you are. Damn what the world thinks you should be or act. Be who you are, not what other expect of you.

    Keep it metal man.

  • you rock!

and by the way: SLAYER KURWA!

  • @rehiv wrong band, who care, METAL UP YOUR ASS...SLAYER KURWA

  • @fuckfacezombie Incorrect my friend. The intro ain't right just for starters. The spirit's there though.

  • Cliff Burton was really big on H.P. Lovecraft.

  • You inspire me, good sir.

  • @eeladrii91 I laughed so hard when I saw this I broke my chair!!!!!!!

  • @CptHeatSink He lies, dreaming, beneath the sea in R'lyeh. Ia ia cthulhu fhtagn!

  • @darkforestzero Nodens' waiting for him to wake up and fight again!

  • Where do you find the tracks to play along with these songs w/out the lead guitar n such? Nice cover btw

  • Cthulhu was spelled Ktulu for fear of the beast and the name itself. It shall not be mentioned, therefore it was spelled Ktulu by Metallica, one of dozens of ways to spell it.

  • Even Cthulhu himself would rise from the abyss he lies to congratulate you dude....

  • Lovecraft dream and wait in Providence....

  • this is the best gand father in the world

  • cthulhu \m/

  • WTF!! magnificent!!

  • gotta love the elderly .

  • I will be 59 in a few weeks. I love this guy's covers!!

  • hey do u recorded audio first then video?

  • mi left nippel just exploded...

  • Looks a bit fake

  • Before kicked out from band, Dave Mustaine wrote this song with another title, and Cliff Burton was a big fan of H. P. Lovecraft and his myth Call Of Cthulhu. When Dave kicked out, Metallica made a few changes ( really few ) on the song and put it Ride The Lightning album. Cliff Burton changes the title, make it his favourite book name: Call of Ktulu. And i think song is make you feel Call Of Cthulhu's dark atmosphere really well.

  • the intro is way off but grandpa FTW!

  • yeahh! grandfather, great song, you have a large arsenal of instruments greetings!

  • It's Cthulhu, you infidel. Great job tho. Greetings from Hungary.

  • @Oi7i87 thats how metallica spells it so they dont anger cthulhu lol

  • thumbs up for the rocker grandpa <3

  • really good u are an influence on me

  • You're great. Can you tell my how much time do you spend at playing at all?? how many years?

  • How can none of see this is fake? or its delayed?

  • @gibby831 Yes, I'm sure he went and bought over $5,000 worth of equipment just to fake for a few thousand views on YouTube with no financial return. Are you that stupid?

  • this MAN is THE MASTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • is that a red marshall plexi in the background?

  • Lovecraft <3.

  • stop calling him grandpa...wtf guys!! show some respect. he's doing an outstanding job covering songs from a band i kind of dont like. palendre, good job man, u got me listening to metallica again! shameless request?...a band called The Force the song is Storm of Steel. they are kind of hard to come by as they are from paraguay, relatively new to the scene though. good job and keep em comming!!!! \m/ \m/

  • ktulu si a cave ....with snakes and other creatures.....

  • DO YOU WANT TO BE MY GRANPA

  • Cthulhu is essentially a great old god of evil in HP Lovecraft's books. He sleeps deep underwater awaiting the time to rise from the ocean and enslave all living. His "Call" is the call to his followers, the madmen and cults that are making sacrifices and praise him so he can gain power to rise again. This song's tempo and development is all about the horror fantasies that people see in their dreams when they hear his Call. Hope that will help to understand emotions behind this song. Keep rockin

  • @thedarksun86 english it's not my native language but...man....I love what you wrote! \m/

  • Cthulhu is essential an great god of evil in HP Lovecraft's books. He sleeps deep in the water and awaits his awakening, the "Call" part is him calling out to his followers to make sacrifices and praise him so he can return in the whole power. Metallica gave a great feeling of something unknown calling and trying to manipulate human souls. Maybe that will "help" understand the emotions behind this song.

Keep doing what you doing, this is great.

  • wow 1959 les paul.....right? 6 grandolies..... dude you freaking rock!!!!

  • Cthulhu fhtagn

    (;,;) \m/

  • beatiful!!

  • Would you say this is the best metallica album or master. And you are the COOLEST GRANDPA EVER

  • deffinatly subscribing, your a pretty sick guitarist man.

  • call of ktulu is Howard Phillips Lovecraft's novel

  • este viejo se pasa de teso

  • i dont really like how the les paul sounds with that song maybe its the pickups but it just lacks something significant in the sound

  • chido viejo!!!

  • Will you be my Gpa. Good work by the way.

  • A few notes off but still way better than I play it so I have no room to speak lol. Sounded really good though!

  • best song by metallica, imo

  • youre my hero gepeto!

  • Awesome! this is one of the first songs I learned to play on guitar. you play the intro in a different position though. cool!

  • were you live

    ¿?

becausee i like to do that song :D

  • yeahhh!

  • what are you like 70 years old haha xD but the intro is great :D

  • Beginning is much better than the original!

    5*

  • EXPLANTATION - Metallica inspired Howard Phillips Lovecraft who was a writer science fiction fantasty books for example mithology of Cthulhu. And they makes Call of Ktulu song

    Source Wikipedia

  • 10/10!

  • Ktulu is a Kraken isn't he?

  • @blocke5324 No, he's an 'ancient' one who is basically a massive fishman, and Lovecraft's book isn't worth reading.

  • The Call of Kutulu is Based on the HP Lovecraft story "The Call of Cuthulu" if you want a terrifying read listen to this song while reading the story.

"It is a most merciful thing, I think, that the human mind can not correlate all of it's contents."

  • both call of call of ktulu and the thing that should not be are songs that were inspired by monster novels that metallica were intrested in and made songs about and were both masterpieces.

  • Ktulu is the thing that should not be

  • its a dragon

  • the intro is off but to be fair that is hardest part i think but still great playing better than me and nice to see at age 54 you got great taste in music keep it up

  • dave mustain wrote this song

  • No he did not.

There is a chord progression Mustaine plays in Hangar 18, which is the same as the intro part to this song, but James Hetfield wrote the picking pattern, all the other riffs. Contributing a couple of riffs does not equate writing the song, two totally different things.

    Get your facts straight mate.

  • @Plihtari no i wont

  • and don't forget cliff

he was the one who had the idea for this song theme and probably the most open minded metal head the world has ever seen

  • wow jesus crist! Once again, welcome to my favourites!

  • the intro sounds off

  • oap metalhead yeah man rock on

  • what effects are u using?

  • PODx3 in line

  • @Ibik i find using a little delay and chorus while if you have a telecaster using the bridge pickup the best

  • that was very impessive, its good to know the elderly enjoy metal, keep on rocking.

  • lol elderly?! ELDERLY?!?! ROFL the "Elderly are like 55-65 or older. i think its 65 though, so this guy is a few years from being "Elderly" i would hate if someone called me "elderly" before i hit 65! Just because hes older doesn't mean he doesn't know good music!

  • Cthulhu is a badass from R'lyeh, got many friends from Yuggoth :D nice cover dude =)

  • nailed it man ! good work

  • can you please adopt me pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • Oh. my. GOD. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR DOING THIS COVER!! One of my favorite metallica songs ever!

  • To answer your description question:

It is a respelling (not sure why) of "The Call of Cthulhu" by H.P. Lovecraft. Cthulhu a fictional being manifesting itself as evil or horror. Nice cover, that is a tough intro.

  • ...thanks my friend the answer :)

  • @palendre I have heard that spelling Cthulhu would summon the creature in the story. So as an homage to the story the song title is misspelled with a K.

  • @palendre Cthulhu is how you really spell it, but Ktulu is how metallica spelled it so you spelled it right

  • They respelled it klutu for the idiots that can pronounce Cthulhu, james said it was a big mistake doing it.

  • @METALMEATPLOW It's respelled on purpose, because Lovecraft's mythos say that calling his name or even writing it can summon his visions and he'll gladly tear you apart ;) Cliff Burton was the big fan of Lovecraft's literature

  • @METALMEATPLOW i heard they spelt it differntly because in H.P. Lovecrafts writing he claims that if a mortal spells out the name correctly, the monster emerges from the deep. I dont know if that is true, but if it is, its a pretty cool headnod to Lovecraft and Lovecraft fans.

  • @METALMEATPLOW I think I have read in an interview somewhere that they called it Ktulu simply because of legal reasons, copyright etc. In Sweden a work of art is copyrighted until 70 years after the artists death, which would be in the mid 90's with Lovecraft. Dont know about the US though. But I think it makes sence anyway. On another note, according to wikipedia the song was supposed to be called "When hell freezes over" back when Mustaine was in the band, but Burton was a big Lovecraft fan so
