Looks like you noticed, but to answer your now deleted question, I eventually did bind the command to a key. Makes way more sense than spamming it via console, it just took me a while to think of that for some reason.
The server had a shitty mod that, when an item drop was detected, it played the zelda 'found item' sound.
Faked drops to non-existant players usually display nothing and don't "work" but in this case the server still saw the item drop, and played the sound (but still no chat notification of the drop).
